  1. Too much Its not just the cost of the bike, its the cost of travelling to ride etc... I have lost track of how much money I have spent on my trials habbit over the last 6 years! In the last year I have also found a new habbit and have spent around £1400 on my XC/Freeride rig.
  2. Fosters = Skippy Piss = Disgusting Red Bull = f**k loads of sugar = get fat + memories of nights getting far too pissed on double Vodka Red Bull's
  3. If you didnt have a clue what trials was what would you call it?
  4. I started trials on a Scott XC bike, I experimented with endo's, learnt to back hop then figured out how to pedal hop forwards, eventually I found myself using these techniques to drop of walls etc... But at the end of the day I still had a mountain bike that I could use for other things. I could ride to school on it, I could ride XC, I could do what I liked on it. As I got more and more into trials I slowly modified my bike making it more specific for trials and of less use for other things. Back when I started trials the bikes I saw people riding in MBUK did not look so alien, they were just mountain bikes with a few modifications, I didn't look at a trials bike and go "I cant ride trials on the mountain bike I already own, I need to go out and buy a special bike" like I can see many people thinking these days. Not many people are going to be too keen to go out and buy a specialist bike to learn trials on, they won't even know if trials is what they enjoy and the bike will limit them to just trials. Quote, Martin Hawyes in last months MBUK: I would love to see something like this, a trial that anyone can ride in no matter what discipline you ride or what bike you own. Trials doesn't have to be big ups, side hops and drop gaps, trials is navigating your bike over different terrain. The most fun I have had on a bike this year was riding the black run at Haldon freeride park near Exeter! My trials experience meant that I was nailing parts of the trail other riders were completely skipping out. It would be great to see trials merging with the growing 'freeride' scene, look at Ryan Leech's northshore section in Evolve all those years ago! At the end of the day the skinnies, teeter totters and steep roll downs found on northshore trails are 'trials' anyway. If a trial involving more regular mountain bikes was run and had a feature in MBUK people would hopefully start to see that even a technical section of XC is a form of trials. Alongside this article a 'how to' section explaining the techniques riders used to navigated the sections could be done. Half a page explaining the simple modifications you can do to a bike to try out some trials would also be great (eg lowering your seat and why you should lower it) I have gone on enough now and cant get any more of my thoughts typed out so that's it from me for now

Yeah, that totally sucked balls Was still an awesome week away in France though! It was also a fairly cheap week, I seem to remember the whole trip I only spent about £200 on food, drink, contribution to driving costs etc...
  6. It was amazing. Most of the parts were used for Chris' Leeson 24" That Zebdi frame is now getting thrashed around by another local.
  7. Agreed. To add to this thread I recomend: Refused - The Shape of Punk to Come You will not be disappointed if you like hardcore rock, imo its among the most influential album of the 90's, if I had to select my top 10 albums it would be included for sure Also you cant go wrong with any Rage Against the Machine albums
  8. I wasnt too scared to ride Chris' bike! I wasnt even too scared about front hopping on those forks, it was fun
  9. I used the search I know its nearly a year old but meh:
  10. Its deffinately not me! Yes I do still ride. Full time work makes it hard to get out as much as I used to and I lack the motivation to ride trials but Im not getting rid of my Megamo anywhen soon. I remember meeting you in London and at the UK round of the worlds a couple of years ago. Sanitary towels as padding in a piss pot helmet, you crazy Russian Watching the BBC trials documentary on the TV years before I knew what trials was (Maybe even before I got into 'proper' MTBing) and dreaming I could ride a bike like that one day. Under Pressure on TV, an unknown Scottish lad called Dave Marshal wins! Sorry Dave, someone had to mention it
  11. I know you dont want in ear 'phones but I have been using these for a couple of months now and am VERY impressed! Sennheiser CX300
  12. Aggreed, V12's are deffinately worth the extra money The only real reason is for the much nicer bearings! V8 bearings work their way loose and are harder to maintain. To service V12's you just have to remove the pedal and pack a load of grease on the axle, with V8's you have to ponce around catching bearings and then the awkwardness of getting the bearings back in place. I wouldnt say there is any other advantage for trials though, both V12's and V8's have pins that are going to get destroyed if you twat them. I run VP's on the trials bike and V12's on the XC bike, I run V8's on the work bike and have run V8's for trials. V12's have the nicest bearings and are the easiest to maintain, VP's are cheapest and dont have pins to knock out (Yes the VP cages bend but you can bend them back and the price is right) I want VP style pedals with V12 bearings!!!
  13. Contact the Sun and see if you can get an interview?
  14. So what if im 5ft3 tall and I am 21?
  15. Go out with a certified instructor for a total of 6 hours and they fill out an assesment sheet and ask you a few questions. I dont even think its possible to fail the pass plus. They take you out motorway driving, country roads, night driving etc... I just went out one Sunday with my instructor, in my lessons I had done a lot of night driving so she wasnt worried about that, we only spent 15 minutes on motorway before she decided I was confident with motorway driving, we just generally drove around for the rest of the day (The furthest away place I ended up from Salisbury was Waterlooville which is about 50 miles away)
  16. Same happened with me. With Norwich Union my insurance went from around £1400 to just over £700 when I added pass plus. Ring around insurance companies and see what discounts they do for pass plus.
  17. < I think that face explains it all really. There was: Gay porn, lesbian porn, straight porn, animal porn, kiddie porn, wierd fettish porn, dominatrix porn, porn involving stupidly massive sex toys, porn involving stupidly massive mechanical sex toys, etc..................
  18. Peugeot 106 1.0l 4 speed Kid (First car) Peugeot 306 1.6 LX (Current car) Peugeot 306 2.0 HDI Estate (No I didnt park it for a mate and muller the bumper of the car behind, honest ) VW Golf 1.9 Tdi VW Golf 1.6 (Instructors old car) Honda Civic 1.6 (Instructors new car that I took my test in) Honda Civic 1.4 16v Renault Clio 1.2 Ford Escort of some description Bigmans massive German tractor towing a big off trailer Not a very interesting list apart from the tractor, all of the above other than the Peugeots I have owned were just around private carparks, I would have driven lots more cars on the open road but insurance is always the problem
  19. Technically the college have broken data protection laws by showing you/giving you that footage... (Note my Dad runs his own company installing CCTV, Burgler alarms etc... so I just showed him the vid cos I thought he would be interested) These data protection laws even mean that if the police go into a CCTV recording room they have to have written authority from at least a Sergent before they are allowed to view footage...
  20. When I lost the back end in my car and crashed I was taking the corner slow compared to how fast I have previously taken the same corner I was lucky and only needed a new bumper which cost me about £200 in total to sort. In fairness, if you loose a car you are driving inappropriately for the situation. I have calmed down a f**k load since crashing my car, I have lost my 'nerve', this time last year I would regularly be hooning it around empty country roads in the dark. Looking back, I was very lucky I didnt loose control and actually kill myself All it takes is a bit of gravel/mud/wet leaves and you could totally loose control, loose a lot of money or even your life. You will learn from this and become a better driver, just be happy it was only the car that got hurt this time.
  21. Sounds like a good night Forget Leicester Square, The Brewhouse is the place to premier videos now
