  1. I have ridden in skate shoes for years. Mainly DC's but recently bought some Nike Air Whistler shoes in a sale, they are from the Nike 'Cycling' range. The sole on the Nikes seems to have worn fairly quickly, when they are completely knackered and I have some spare money I am going to get some 5.10's I might just send the Nikes off to http://www.feetfirst.resoles.co.uk/ and get them resoled with 5.10 rubber to see how I get on with it (Strangely I am worried it might be too grippy!)
  2. This thread has been done before and failed
  3. A quote from The Collective: "There are so many kids who get to a certain level and stop. You know? They see car, beer, girls. What are you doing? There's car, beer, girls, and bike. Not just the three, you can have four!"
  4. Motorist in fatal crash claimed he followed Top Gear advice
  5. Just the other day you were saying that you were struggling to afford the running costs of your car so what's the point wasting money on new plates that are probably going to cause you lots of hassle and fines?

    Traveling

Don't plan too much, just have your flights sorted and basic idea of where you want to go and the main things that you want to do. You will meet loads of cool people along the way and end up changing your plans as you go. As long as you end up doing the main things you wanted to anything else is an added bonus! Use the two following websites to find, book and look at reviews of hostels. I didn't ever use Hostelz.com but on hostelworld.com you just use your card to pay a booking fee then you pay the outstanding to the hostel when you arrive. http://www.hostelworld.com/ http://www.hostelz.com/ HAHA Thanks Ben, I'm not that much of an expert though!
  7. Just bled the front Shimano XT Disc on my Commencal, it was a bit awkward although I had heard that they are not the easiest systems to clear air out of. So far I cant feel any great improvement in lever feel or braking but will have to see how it copes on a proper ride with some nice downhill sections to heat the brake up. At least I know how bleed discs now
  8. Am I right in assuming its the same technique for bleeding Shimano XT Disc brakes?
  9. Chain constantly spinning, often at high speed when you are hurtling down a hill, chains getting worn out faster etc... I cant see a front freewheel system ever being used on Mountain Bikes.
  10. Here are a couple of videos showing how it works: Freecaster Video Mpora Dirt TV Video In both videos the bash is clear so you can see the internals. There are other videos on the internet if you have a look around but they are all very similar. I don't know the exact weights but the system isn't meant to be much heavier than a regular chain ring set-up. I'm not sure how happy I would be to bash it on the trials bike when messing up a move. For 'freeride' you are not going to bash the chain ring anywhere near as hard or often (seeing as your only really protecting the chain ring from rocks that might flick up off the trail and for the odd occation you might clip a log or rock) Not relevant for trials bikes but full suspension frames are going to have to be designed specifically around the Hammersmidt otherwise they will bob and have excessive pedal feedback.
  11. Christmas is coming, I hear Tescos will be employing loads of Christmas Temps.... Real life story: When I was in Australia I met an awesome Irish guy who was getting money towards his trip from his work. He worked for the Forestry Commission (or something similar I cant remember) and they were paying him money towards his trip subject to him supplying them with photos and reports about the National Parks he visited in Australia and New Zealand. Now being realistic... How the f**k do you think that someone is going to give you money to go gallivanting around the World? What do you have to offer them? Why should they give you the money? Very quick Australia advice: Blue Mountains near Sydney - don't miss them! Sail the Whitsundays! Fraiser Island is also pretty cool. Cairns is OK The Great Ocean Road is awesome My Thread asking for advise before I went
  12. Salad Cream on Pasta? Vegemite on Toast is my current snack of choice
  13. When you learnt to back hop I'm sure you fell off the back of the bike quite a bit, when your learning to front hop the opposite will happen. While learning if you are not falling off over the front of the bike you are not leaning far enough forwards! Falling off forwards may sounds bad but all you have to do is take your feet off the pedals and put them on the ground near your front wheel. Good luck, front hopping is really hard to get your head round but once you have got it you will be fine
  14. Mowgli, you forgot my French poo heap that was littering the yard
  15. Your profile suggests this would be for your 18th birthday? I thought it would be a good idea to point out that you have to be 21 to drink in the US just in case you had ideas of partying. If you fly mid week you can get some really cheap flights. When I went to New York last year we got flights through BA for £200 return!
  16. Not going to the festival. But I am travelling up to Scotland tomorrow for 3 days riding some of the 7 Staines

What the f**k? How sad I was lucky enough to have the pleasure of meeting Robert on his first riding trip to England. I picked him up from the airport, gave him a floor to sleep on and drove him around everywhere for the 2 weeks he was here. He was such a fun person to be around, always having a joke and pushing himself as well as other riders around him. You couldn't fault the guy, he was just such a nice person and to top it off his English was amazing! Not much more to say. RIP Rob, you absolute legend. X
  19. Went to NASS. Going to the Friday of Reading.
  20. I only just got home. I am working 9-5 today. Am I cool and late night? I have been at Stonehenge for the Summer Solstice
  21. Just to make it clear to everyone. Alcohol was not banned, you just were not allowed to take your own alcohol into the festival. Bag searches were pretty tight but people were still smuggling stuff in. You could buy alcohol on site, it was just no where near as cheap as it is in supermarkets! Prices were not as bad as they could have been though; £3 a pint and £3 for Vodka/Can of Relentless...
  22. Surprisingly there was actually bag searches and as a result not much alcohol got into the festival. Overall the event was organised very well. Music wise, Pendulum were disappointing, Less Than Jake were awesome, the D&B arena was amusing. Trials wise, Ashton was demoing all weekend. I am always very impressed with the standard of Ashton's demo's! As has already been said, where the hell was everyone? The t-f camp site was disappointing. Those of you that were not there missed out on a great weekend Finally, the Braun Spine/Mini and BMX Street finals were absolutely nuts!!!
  23. Nationwide also do commission free use abroad, this comes with their credit and debit cards so you could set up a current account with them and just get a debit card. My experience: I got a Nationwide credit card for my trip to Australia last year, I only got it as a back up but in the end used most of the £1500 limit. It really did help with my trip and I ended up paying hardly any interest however this was because... At the time I got the card there was a 3 months interest free offer, I knew I was only going away for 2-3 months and I also knew that I had a full time job when I got back! If you go down the credit card route you could easily get yourself into debt but as long as your sensible and know you can afford to pay the card off when you return home you should be fine.
  24. Have you actually been looking?
