  1. 1 year ago today The claim has still not been settled but last week I finally got an offer from the other party. This is the second offer they have made, it's not a massive payout but I'm just going to accept it and get this bullshit chapter of my life over and done with. £1700 compensation for injuries, £300 loss of use, £500 excess, £385 medical treatment = £2885 final payout. Ah well, it could have been much worse!

  3. I went to Bike Park Wales on Saturday and while we were getting ready my mate was looking at my helmet and pointed out several hairline cracks in the polystyrene. Luckily the shop there had the IXS Trail RS in stock which I tried on at the end of the day, it felt pretty comfy so I will be ordering one in the future. Now I just have to decide which colour to get
  4. Hannah got married to Chris Abbey lasy July, I was best man On Christmas Eve they had a baby boy and have recently moved into a larger house near Salisbury.

  8. This is an extremely odd campaign advert, stay in school kids *Warning, contains blood and gore*
  9. I have had my Giro Xen for about 8-9 years now and have been putting off replacing it because I'm not a huge fan of the way the new Giro helmets look. I had been looking at the Giro Feature but am put off by the lack of ventilation. The IXS Trail is now added to the short-list, will have to try and find somewhere I can try one on
  10. Salisbury. The nearest decent wall is Calshot, it's an awesome wall but 30 miles away so by the time you have taken into account entry, fuel and then the beer/food afterwards it was getting pretty expensive! They have now started doing monthly memberships but even that is expensive and it would mean you have to commit to 1-2 trips per week to make it worthwhile. For real rock I was lucky enough to have Portland and Swanage within about 90 minutes drive but after wrecking my finger I never got back into it. When I say I injured my finger snowboarding, I mean I really f**ked it up. When I got an x-ray and they said it was 'just' ligament damage I wanted to cry and I was unable to climb for over 1 year, even several years later it can still be painful.
  11. Listed my first ever item for sale on ebay last night, some snowboard bindings. I couldn't be arsed with an auction so put them up with a fair buy it now price but was worried they might not sell because they have a bit of damage and are a small size only good for up to a size 8 boot. They have already sold
  12. Me too, I used to love climbing and was making great improvements but had to take a long break after seriously damaging a finger learning to snowboard. I then never got back into it because my climbing partners moved away and it was always expensive to do. It's a 60 mile round trip to the nearest good indoor climbing wall, £10 entry plus fuel to drive there, real rock is even further away.
  13. Only 2 weeks until I will be at the Val d'Isere UCPA, really excited! Luckily Sadly I'm being made redundant at the end of February so I'm going to be in Tignes for the whole of March This year I bought my first board and also decided to replace my boots and bindings. I went for a 2013 Rossignol Taipan and some 2014 Rome 390 bindings.

  17. This could be an interesting comparison for the Jardo opinion. I am also a software tester but it sounds like I got to this job following a different path to Muel. I have been a software tester for a large international education company for nearly 4 years and am ISTQB certified. I'm not on a crazy high wage but for the area and the job I'm doing it's great and the perks of working for a large company are awesome. Loads of holiday, bonus each year, company pension and they are happy to pay for training courses to help staff progress. I left school with 5 C's and 4 B's in my GCSE's, at the time I had no idea what I wanted to do but didn't have any computing qualification so it seemed like a good idea to do a BTEC in Business and Computing at college. I didn't really like the college lifestyle and knew that university would be even tougher with more distractions, plus I still didn't know what I wanted to do so I didn't go to university. After college I ended up working in an inbound Call Centre for the next 5 years. The job was pretty shit but the team atmosphere was awesome and I progressed onto a technical helpdesk which I enjoyed. Over these 5 years I learnt a lot about customer service but towards the end of my time there the company had evolved and the Contact Centre jobs became more sales focused so it was time to call it a day. After several months travelling I came home jobless and eventually ended up at my old job in the Contact Centre on a temporary contract for 6 months before I found my current job as a software tester. I actually found out about this job from a friend of a friend while on a night out haha! My previous experience working on a 1st line support team, the way I presented myself at the interview (There was a stronger candidate who swore in their interview!) combined with the life experiences I had gained through travelling were what got me this job. For at least 5 minutes of my interview I was getting asked questions about my travelling experiences by the person who was going to become my section manager In less than 2 months I am being made redundant and am unsure what job I will end up doing next. All I know is that I'm taking a break from office work but I am confident that in the future using the experience and qualifications I have I can go back to customer support/software work if I want to. Interesting times ahead!
  18. What happened to it in order for it to be a Cat C? Depending on how old the vehicle was at the time of the accident Cat C can be pretty nasty damage. Like you have found out some insurance companies won't cover a previously written off vehicle so whenever you get quotes always contact the company and make sure they know about the Cat C. The cheap quotes you are getting online are all well and good but they will be useless if you have to make a claim and they then check records and find out about the write off and decide they won't cover you!
  19. A guy I used to work with uses a similar app but he has to get out of bed and scan a QR Code stuck on the wall in his bathroom to stop the alarm
  20. Mine isn't a handle, it's a rectangular rubber button hidden where the registration plate lights are. I think it's part number 3B9827566B and looks like this:
  21. Passat has developed a boot opening issue The boot won't open if I use the release button on the actual boot. The release switch on the drivers door works (Although it only releases the boot half open so it is not possible to pull it open). The only way I can open the boot is by using the button on the key fob or by using the key in the keyhole on the boot lid. The boot worked as normal this morning but after driving 10 miles the problem started and the button has not worked since. The rubber covering on the release appears to have split and it has been pissing it down for weeks so I suspect water has made its way inside and broken the button. Although this is car electrics so it probably won't be as simple as that! Has anyone else had to fix a similar issue? This must be an identical locking system that is used on various VAG vehicles.

  23. Get some impact shorts, you won't regret it! For trips away check out UCPA. You get accommodation, food, lift pass and equipment hire included in the price, if you want to get lessons/guiding it's not much more expensive and very worthwhile! The UK booking agent is http://www.action-outdoors.co.uk/ My last 3 trips have been with UCPA and I'm heading out to their Val d'Isere centre in February, I can't wait
  24. This video shows the bleed technique you need to use. Also tap the lever, caliper and along the hose with a spanner/allen key to dislodge any bubbles that might be trapped in the system.
