  1. Thanks for posting that - I really enjoyed it. Does what the best vids do - makes you want to go out and ride!
  2. oh crap...now Im seriously gonna have to think about getting one! Big thanks for the link....still, does anyone know if these are good?
  3. seen the 74Kingz can be used to push the chain up on here...... http://www.observedtrials.net/vb/showthrea...1514&page=2 so will be ordering one of these and try it
  4. remember people using middleburns when i last was into riding so looks like theyre pretty much tried and tested. think im better goin with those if I do anything. thanks again
  5. I like yours, much better not using hangar..... but the chainreaction ones with the tabs and red wheels looks a bit crap
  6. For someone like me of the "**** it, I can probably make that." mentality, its probably overkill but yep, at least I can work it out before forking out. Appreciate that - thanks. Any thoughts on the echo cranks anyone? or just put the £ towards middleburns (is 16T front going to be the new standard?)
  7. cheers....I sussed that already but its useful seeing it typed out. How do you build crank length into that or just sort of guess?
  8. So you should be. Now back to my questions...
  9. Its not that silly when you havent ridden a bike in 6 years....I rode all afternnon on 22:21 and although a bit light theres no way I could have used 18. Debating just getting a more moden set up - b/b (maybe isis I dunno whats best?), crank and screw on chainring. Seems like these bolt on ones are becoming/have become outdated? Are these http://www.selectbikes.com/index.php?act=v...mp;productId=35 Echo cranks any good? then theres the question of what size crank (more confusion).
  10. I dont want something 2nd hand....but that inspired is really nice - if only there was a 26"....just means Id need wheel rebuild, rims tyres etc adding to the cost. really nice though. just seen this http://www.selectbikes.com/index.php?act=v...p;productId=208 now that looks great and has a seat tube! are they any good?
  11. I think the idea of saving the rear hangar sells the 74 for me...would like to have a go at making one as it looks so simple but lack of time, patience and shed/garage prevent me at the mo!
  12. Think this single speed kit is gonna cost more than I'd thought - doesnt seem much point putting rubbish kit on if i'll only have to replace it more quickly. 74Kingz it is then. Think gonna sell off some of the stuff sat around my parents garage......Anyone wanna buy a hope big'un on a D521 for their bit on the side bike?!
  13. Didnt want a steel frame (should have mentioned).....can a Justice be bought new? Coming around to the idea of no seat....well maybe.
  14. Im just playing with the idea at the mo but thinking about a new frame (and maybe forks)...now bear in mind I haven't ridden properly in 6 years so most the makes I'm seeing on here are all new to me - Im of the old school (pashleys, team giant, Vario, little cannondales etc!) and there wasn't so much choice then so I don't really know what Im looking for by todays standards...... So being old I want something with a seat (do any exist?)....and not toooooo tiny....as for the rest Im not sure. Obviously it has to be stable on one wheel (back more important). Also, I like to do a bit of street style riding in-between the hopping around....if I see something to launch off and clear a gap or just something to take a run up and jump over. Im not into the long long stems and flat 'pointy up at the ends' bars and featherlight carbon stuff either, I want something that looks cool and can take some abuse...A rear disc mount and magura mounts. Last is price....had to come into it. I dunno what they cost so let me know or post a link! So come on...give me some ideas what to drool over until I can splash out! Links, prices and recommendations, and advice what to look for are all welcome!
  15. I really like the look of the 74Kingz (even if £30 seems a bit steep!)...not having to worry about mech/mech hangar getting trashed would be great....so they work ok though with no jockey wheel or guide? Doesn't it damage the chain? Tensile looks good but I just think I might as well run gears if im going to have that - its not that different to having a short cage mech? Rolhoff looks lovely but £50 for something that could easily break (+hangar). I think as long as it works well (seems to have mixed reviews) its the 74Kingz then.
  16. What tensioner can anyone recommend? The cheap ones (4jeri etc) seem a bit too cheap to be any good, DMR ones look crap...do I get sprung? non sprung? Ive done a search but can't find out anything so can anyone recommend me a good one.
  17. 22:18 is too tough for me to push so appreciate the offer but I think will have to try a 20T rear if I can only get a 22T 4 bolt.
  18. ...actually havin trouble finding a 20t from as well (4bolt).....
  19. Done some searching and a lot of reading.....then started working out the ratio's.....so I want to try out 20:19 or if not 20:18 but I wanted to get one of the wider sprockets (so not to ruin the body-thing it sits on)....but can't find any listed on the net.........any help or links? Cheers for all your comments so far btw, waaaaay more help than asking a bike shop (yesterday leisure lakes suggested 32:16!!!!!!!)
  20. At last...someone making sense of this! Looking around on the net I can only find (for stock bike) 18t max on the back....so do you think if I drop to a 20t on the front it will feel similar to my current 22:21 as 22:18 is too hard to push from standstill? Will 2 teeth on the front compensate enough?
  21. No I can only go to a 20t front - its a bolt on. Screw on ones didnt exist when I last rode bikes!
  22. Oh...I can get a 19 or 20 rear??? where can I buy that? the most I found on tartybikes was an 18t rear...everything else seems to be much smaller - like 15t max on some makes. I need a new front anyway so not bothered about that. Thanks for the help so far btw.
  23. I rode my old relic today mostly on 22t front / 21t back but was quite spinny....18t at the back was too hard for an old timer like me to push so what do I order (gonna go single gear)...20t with 18t rear? Suggestions please!
  24. First ride today in longer than I thought...last rode in my 2nd year of uni (2002) so today was my first ride in 6 YEARS! Went ok...we started with a little ledge to try remember the basics and get some sense of confidence and balance...then off to some concrete benches, then 'picnic table height' stuff and feeling happy with that we looked at our ruined hands and called it a day. A looooong way still to go but loved it! What ratio gear is normal to use? (gonna order some stuff to go single speed) - I Found using 22t front and 21 at back ok, next is an 18t but I found that too hard to push so what would work a 20t front and 18t back?
  25. Thanks for the help and nice bike....I can relate to that one - I remember them coming out and those two brothers who rode for Pashley being on blue peter! If I had a pic Id get one up of mine......it'd be like a history lesson. Its saying on this site that for under 15t I need a double wheel tensioner....that right or just to try to get people to buy the more expensive ones? (can't remeber how many teeth my fave gear has anyway) Doesnt it get tiring having no seat? Does no one just sit and pedal to the next spot anymore?
