  1. For someone I consider to be one of the more switched on people on this forum, you're being pretty dim. I am/was a trials rider, so I know exactly what you mean about pride and joy and everything. I've had bikes nicked too. I was asking on here because it was MORE likely for people to say "no, don't be a cunt, it's well out of order" which would have given me a clear reason not to. Asking a random group of people on facebook would have almost certainly got me a "Yea, go for it blud", so I went down the fair route and asked the people I know care most about bikes. A lot of other people seem to have grasped the concept that I'm not looking to get hold of someones pride and joy - I'm looking to get a bike that's been discarded like a rape victims underwear. It wont even be a full bike! So chill, read the topic - which is ready to be closed by the way.
  2. He didn't though did he? I did Nevermind the fact they are one and the same... Point is I'm not a "bike chain sawing maniac", hence wondering whether it was morally completely wrong. If the answers were 50/50 I'd go with my instincts that it was ok. The fact most people have said it isn't completely wrong just helps me do it...
  3. Yea, you might as well make it a round number...
  4. Passengers. Drivers in other countries who are allowed to drink whilst driving. What about the woman who got banned for eating an apple while on the motorway? Got 6 points, which took her to 12. Ridiculous.
  5. They call it "Driving without due care and attention" i.e. in the event of a hazard, you're mate wouldn't have both hands on the wheel and thus wouldn't be able to react as safely as possible. Not that I agree, just an explanation. Loving your work boumsong, I did a similar thing with the end of a bowl of chilli con carne a long while ago. Fun times.
  6. Don't read it then. Ignore it. To me, and many others it would seem, this topic is a bit of light hearted fun. Stop whining and go back to looking at rocks.
  7. I dunno whether you realised, but you've dropped by into "Chit Chat". If people want to talk 5 pages about a miniature bashring for use as a keyring then so be it. People are obviously interested, otherwise there wouldn't be talk about it! No need to get pissy because you didn't make the thread jealousy is disgusting On Topic: What's the other specs? WB, BB rise, Length of the stays?
  8. Absolutely right, fitness is a combination of recovery rates and resting heart rates. It's no good recovering fast if your resting heart rate is 75% of your maximum, just as there is no point in having a resting rate of 60 if it takes 3 days to get there.
  9. So, you're all fairly active, fit people from what I can tell... I just wondered what everyone's resting heart rate is. For those that don't know how to work it out, find your pulse on your neck or wrist like they showed you in school. Then start a stopwatch and count the beats of your heart for 60 seconds, or 30 seconds and double it. If you want to be uber thorough about it, do it a few times during a day at points where you are resting and then average them out. Mine is 72, which I'm fairly unhappy with - used to be 67.
  10. I can see it from my desk, so yes it's in Croydon It's got a HENCH chain on it, but that wont pose a problem... lol
  11. Then, when they say no and I do it anyway, they will know exactly who to go for! Have you ever had the council do anything common sensical for you? Too much red tape - "I'm sorry sir, the procedure is to spend money on recycling these bikes, due to health and safety or something" It'll be a night time operation... [insert balaclava emoticon that I can't find]
  12. Essentially yes, but at the same time you could say "From who?". Yes, legally the purchaser of the bike still owns it, but if they have abandoned it and the only place it is going is to the council to allow them to make more cash then I couldn't find a reason for him not to... EDIT: That was to hannah, you guys are too quick! On the "how long till it's considered abandoned?" thought... I honestly don't know. There is a prime example next to my work that has been there a good month/6 weeks. Anyone know how long the councils would leave it? Or is it just when they notice one? It's an impossible question to answer really.
  13. Right, this isn't as obvious as "Should (my friend) steal a bike or not?", honest! Everyday, cycling through the suburbs of London you can see 'bikes' chained to the hoops concreted into the pavement. Some of these bikes have had the thief treatment already - wheels nicked or kicked in etc - but with frames that are in perfectly good nick, and generally a few accessories too. These ex-bikes, if left for a while, will get taken away by the council and generally crushed or recycled. My question is, is it morally wrong for my friend to cut one of these free and use it to build up a better commuting bike than he has already? It's a form of recycling, but clearly illegal even though the owner has obviously abandoned the bike.... Thoughts? Just for the record, I think that people who steal full bikes are fucking wankers- anyone who thinks they want to comment saying that I'm anything like that lot can keep it to themselves.
  14. I dunno about completely boring, I did a nice fast weights session earlier which kept the heart rate nice and high and yet felt challenging: I started off with a half hour ride home at a moderate pace, but that can be left out... Warmup 20x Press ups 20x Situps then with a heavy, but un-weighted bar, still at 5 sets of each: Set 1 20x Punch fronts 20x Shoulder press in front 20x Bicep curls 20x Shoulder press behind Set 2 20x Upright rows 20x Squats 20x Bent over rows 20x Tricep Curls Then 5 ab sets of: 20x straight situp 20x knee ins 20x alternate situps 20x crunches (legs upright, reaching to the toes) Finish with the warm-up set 5 times again. Tops 30 second break between sets. Personally I don't find that too boring, but everyone's different. Maybe this one would be a good one for you to try out Dave?
  15. Check "Insert Special Item" drop down box, and see how the tags work

    Jobs?

That's interesting, I guess it's B&Q being different to specialist stores. I've been in places like, for example, MFI and walked away smugly after getting the sales guy to give me a 40% discount after promising I'd take it away that day. All comes down to appealing to the guys wallet in commission terms I guess... If you're not having any trouble in that way then good stuff, it's just one of my sad activities every now and again. Keeping in practise at getting discounts seems like a good idea to me! lol.

Out of interest... how much discount do you reckon someone who haggles hard could get out of your section? Been meaning to go do that for a while then not pay at the end... just to see how desperate they are in these times of economic downturn...

    Jobs?

I'm no expert, but I've done it, and it looked pretty good... When I did the bathroom at my old place I did it by starting with a tile around half a tile from the left hand and top edges, using a spirit level to get this first tile right. Then I put another 3 tiles down around that first tile, making sure that it was straight in both ways the whole time, and then did the cuts around these into the corner… from there it was all pretty plain sailing, just making sure to get the cuts to the ceiling and corner wall right and making sure everything is straight the whole time with a pencil line drawn each time you start a new line. I could be completely wrong doing it this way, but it sorted my needs out – maybe there is a less wasteful way to do it?

    Jobs?

Many things I have tried and not had the time/funds/skills to devote to them properly. At the moment it's a sort of media agency to fill a rather obvious gap in the market... just trying to set it up quick enough to not get beaten to it. It's just the time aspect of doing it, what with the full time job and training I just never seem to have the time. That's being made to change now though while I'm on my month detox!

    Jobs?

I'm a Senior Sales Exec for IPC media on the cycling titles, and an entrepreneur that fails. For now.
  22. I'm going to have to have a proper think about this one to dig out all the low impact/high intensity stuff from the back of my brain. I'll get back to you, but as has been said, give swimming a go in the mean time if you're up to it. Maybe strap the ankle up for limited movement in the pool?
