New Chain Has Lost Me Small Front Crank Tension
trialsmax04 replied to KEEPitSTUPID's topic in Bike Chat
Remove the extra links to make it the sane size as the old one? New chains come longer than needed... -
New drive train and that combo (what shifters xt?) is same as what I'm now running and like i said, shit hot!!
-
If those shifters where new in 2006 I wouldn't mind betting there knackard (obviously could be wrong, but having just replaced a set of 2006 deore shifters mine where bad). If you can afford it shifters will always be a good upgrade (the price of shifters annoys me but a good pair make all the difference). Look out for a second hand xt mech if your going to get one. The shadow version is shit hot!!
-
It's pretty hard to tell really. What shifters you running? That's what makes most of the difference. Looking at the pictures the mech may be slightly bent (again it's hard to tell). With the bike upside down, if both jockey wheels don't line up with the selected gear, just try bending it untill they do. I've never bent an actual mech before.

Yea should be ok with that. I used to run a 28-11 cassette on a double and bash setup with a 22/32 rings up front. I do much more All Mountain and trail style riding now and am using a 34-11 cassette and a 22/36 rings up the front and it's perfect. If you spin up hills often, a large range is a must.

Personal opinion, but one of the best value combos I have used ( and all my friends use it) is a shimano HG61 (presuming 9 speed) and a SRAM PC951 chain. Don't bother with shimano chains unless you love fixing them. You could get away with chainrings (although they will wear out new stuff). Not sure on gear cables. I normally run a Clarks cable or similar as they generally get changed on my bike fairly often. But that cassette and chain option up there is seriously reccomended!
-
Get a chain wear checker. If the chain is less than 1% worn you can buy a new chain Without a new cassette.

Ardents? Or High roler/ Minion single ply?
-
I agree there. Trouble is it's an amazing wheel, brought it off grant wildman, 729 rim, hope bulb hub with a 12mm axel, and dt Swiss alpine 3 spokes. It would kill me to take it apart, but my mate has an En321 kicking around. Better option? Any ideas where I could find erd measurements?

Crash Party-'surfing For The Ugly Broads' Bmx Video
trialsmax04 replied to Rusevelt's topic in Videos
I laughed all the way through, even though I cringe at crashes. These guys are so stupid for doing it in the first place if all they do is crash! Wear a helmet! All they ever do is land on their face/heads! -
In reply to the above, what would one consider a decent trail bike weight? The Ragley weighs in at 33lbs or 15kg. The fork and wheelset is the bulk of that, the fork is around 2kg, i have heavy duel ply high rolers on there and the rear rim is a Mavic 729 (mahooosive!). Im thinking some single ply tyres and thats it she is ready for Wales?

Finally got her to the right sort of spec for Wales. SLX cranks, cassette and sram PC971 chain arrives today. Cranks are amazing, although they feel weird and bent, but arnt of course, (this is due to my last set of deore's being madly bent!), and shifting is silky smooth. Love the nex XT shifters! Anyone tried the Maxxis Ardent folding tyre? Possibly looking for something lighter and better rolling for Wales, they look ideal, apart from being £30 each!
-
Hold nothing against you, but its really something I don't agree with. Sorry.

Yay! Another HIFI on the forum! Got to love them!

Anybody interested in a Ragley MMMbop frame (Blue 18"), the one I posted on the previous page? Got it late last year, barely any scratches on it. Can come with a Thompson seat post and will come with an FSA orbit R reducer headset. Beautiful hardcore hardtail, seriously strong. Can take up to 160mm forks. Probably looking at £120 for the lot (Thompson post is brand new basicly) so bargain! Only looking to change as back problems may possibly be making me require a full susser! Edit: not the hardtail giving me problems it seems. She stays

My Ragley up to date. When im looking at her, she looks awesome, but in the pictures looks really poor spec Ive spent loads trying to improve the spec too! Picture taken today on a sunny (but windy) Kitt hill.

on my MTB I wouldnt go neer BB7's or cable brakes (currently running the new SLX brakes). But for trials I prefer the cable brakes. Currently running a BB7, kicks the ass of my old Hope and magura (didng like front maggy as i live on a hill!). I wouldnt be worried at all about going for a Vee on the back either.

Ring Tarty on tuesday you lemon... Then if it does fit, order one.

I have slightly changed the topic (see first post). Cheers for the feedback on the rangers path. Did you manage to do it non stop and "clean"? I get your meaning about it being rough. I still fancy doing it though just for the "man points" and to say ive done it really. Any south Wales recommendations? Cheers for all the help. Max

Not usually into 24's but that is sex on wheels!!
-
In that case I would be well into riding it! Might have managed to nab a GoPro for the week so Will have to wait and see about a video of the decent. Is the Lamberis path rideable upwards? Would like to do as much as possible for man pride.

Just read the Planet fear article on the ranger path on snowdon. Looks epic, and i'm VERY tempted to ride it, just to say ive done it! The bike ban is a bit of a bugger though. Anyone know how long it takes to ride up the main bridleway? (am i right in thinking this is the one that ends parallel to the railway?)If i could sneak up onto the mountain, and be up to quarter/ halfway by five o'clock, will I have enough day light time? I think its do-able on my hard tail (140mm Ragley MMMbop), but might start some fitness training for the assent (in fact, would deffinatly!) Coed-y-Brenin is looking promising. The Beast of Brenin looks like its worth a punt.

Uber bump. Mike, i cant access your stuff on sound cloud?

I see where your coming from. I may take my girlfriend up to the Marin trail in Betws y coed for a day out as like you say, it looks pretty tame (im not the worlds best rider by a long way. Im just used to hitting Gawton DH in the middle of an XC run, so i dont mind a challenge). The new plan is to possibly spend 5 days up at a campsite near Snowdon, then come a little further south for another 5 days perhaps, hit up some of the Family trails with my girlfriend and perhaps some of the more tech stuff at Coed y Brenin. I have also heard that there is a visitors centre / cafe there too? Perhaps drop the missus off there before i sneak off for a bit? How long time wise do the Brenin red/ black runs take to be ridden? Dont really want to leave the missus for an all day epic, but anything an hour/ two I should get away with. Cheers for the help!

From that video i'm not going to rush to it. Might be okay for a day out with the girlfriend though. Anyone ridden Snowdon? there is ment to be some trails down it. Although i will be there in summer, so perhaps not the best idea (angry walkers....) Cheers for the help. Max
