i have used xt cranks und bb's for quite a while. the hollowtech1 cranks just had one weak point: the spider got loose after quite a long time riding (probably after a half year or so). a friend of mine cut a thread on the xt-crank to ride it with front freewheel (so got rid of the spider) and rode it for years!

i would take a mtb riser, like the truvativ hussefelt or holzfeller. i ride a hussefelt riserbar and it feels awsome.
