Used to live in Banbury, Burton Dasset just north of Banbury has some rocky outcrops which can be ridden on.
-
Entry In the post - should be my first comp in, erm, ~5 years - should be interesting.
-
Didn't realise Vanschoonhoven was still riding, I remember watching his videos back in 1999 (could have been earlier) when he used those powergrip toe straps.
-
Cheers Netto, I've failed to get out on any real natural when I've been in Van city so I think I'll head up there next time I'm over. Any natural down in the flat land that is Richmond? - why oh why did my inlaws move from Port Moody to Richmond?
-
Jeff, Where is the river filmed in Episode 7?

Hmm must update the town on my profile, I was in Birmingham for several years (Erdington way) but now I'm in a small town in Oxfordshire.
-
I knew that Birmingham supertrial would get you going again. Welcome back. Tim Ellingham.
-
Don't worry about not being able to ride much - just get out when you can, trust me after a few minutes you'll be back up to speed. Sometimes it's 2-3 months between rides for me but I still love it when I get out. Tim - 14 years of biketrials and still loving it.

I'm not very good at sidehopping. In amongst this chat about side hop videos it would nice if someone could post a slo mo video of how to sidehop big i.e. when and how much to pedal, how far to drop the front, how low to go on the bike (lookoing at TRA -very low) etc. I'm not so bothered about how high others can sidehop I'm more concerned about how high I can go.

My parents were far too tight to buy me transformers - had to play with my neighbours - thought they were amazing though had issues with the scale on the whole megatron to gun thing. Had some of those Kellog's reflectors too. Damn feeling my age.
-
Nice vid - missing BC, probably back at xmas time - too wet to ride though (except under the bridge). Tim.

The best spectator trial I've ever been to (and I've been in this game for over 14 years) - a great promotion for the sport. Great to see some old faces from back in the day such as Barry Deeks and Austin (both on observing duties). Shame the turnout was low but the end result was highly effective, well done Dave and crew. Tim Ellingham.

Ridden those rock many times over the years or so - though hevent't been there for many years. Glad to see they are still there - I prefer them to the darker rocks in the quarry. makes me want to go back.
-
Good vid Jeff. I saw the demo you guys put on down by the inlet on Canada day - awesome 47" sidehop - you're going to need a higher bar. Back in Vancouver in April - I'll try and bring my bike this time. Tim. UK

With reference to the original poster: I've been riding trials since 1996 (first comp in 97) and I still love it but only get out once a month really - but that's the secret right there. I only ride when the urge has really built up so I enjoy it. Don't force yourself to ride. Many people lose interest when they leave school (my first comp was during the first year of uni so I had settled a bit after college) as they're exposed to new past times. Don't feel bad about giving up riding, it's just one of those things - people lose interest in things, that's life. I've seen many people give up over the years and many stay that way but some come back. If you're injuring yourself at such a young age it should be viewed as a good thing giving up - there will be more important things to consider in the future than whether or not you should give up trials. Bye. Tim.

I've done the drive to Buthiers a few times and it's quite easy so I would recommend it. What Wayne says is true about things to do to the car. I never got caught speeding but the French police aren't tolerant of foreign drivers so best to keep it down - it's 80mph on the autoroutes in the dry so that's fast enough. But note people the ferry can be expensive if you don't book early.
-
Yeah I agree - I was hoping Chris could sort out every round. he said he would only go to Japan if he was top three though. Tim.

Yes well done to our lads and LOIS Morgan

Lots of pics of me...........observing!

Well all I can say is that I'm dissappointed that the Butlers are not entered into the Worlds. I'm aware of the 'incident' but that was three years ago and I know that some people out there don't forget or forgive. I really wish some hatchets would be burried. so much for team GB.
-
Totally right - because other obesrvers don't do it you feel obliged not to do it. If I had been 100% vigorous yeasterday I don't think anyone would have made it through - except Danny Butler who didn't even use his bash ring. The thing is if you have soft shoes then your feet bend round the pedal and you're not actuallu using your foot for advantage - this is the hardest rule to enforce.

A few things to look at here. 1 Riding sections before a comp - well even if Wayne was riding at Addingham a week before the comp he couldn't have rode the sections as they were not there. When I went to the worlds in 2002 in France people were riding the area in the week before the trial but not the sections, so if you rode round Addingham in the previous week i can't see a problem. Art. 14 PRE-COMPETITION PRACTICE Riders are not allowed pre-competition practice inside the designated area of the course and sections. Any rider seen with his bicycle in any place (eg. course and sections) one week before the competition will be disqualified from the competition. Any attempt made to practice before the competition will result in the exclusion of the concerned rider from the Championship. 2 Riders should know the rules before a comp PLAESE LEARN THESE - as an observer I get a lot of crap from people who don't know the rules. Art. 33 KNOWLEDGE OF THE RULES The riders, upon applying for entry for competition must possess a thorugh knowledge of the present Technical Rules and respect any other instructions given by the organizers in order to improve the event. Rules can be modified by the organising bodies - like at YMSA -riding sections out of order is not an offence. To every one competing at the next round of the British Champs - expect some very strict observing as it's the last round before the Worlds. So I say: 1 - Keeps your toes and heels on the pedal - this is always a bone of contention as most riders do this so quick that they don't notice themself. 2 - Get BOTH hubs between the markers - it doesn't matter if you're in the air or not both must go through. 3 - The marker is the point where it enters the ground and not the coloured bit. Tim Ellingham. PS - Big respect to Aran Cooke (SP?) who rode my section (5) during the monsoon and then his front caliper sheared off 2/3 of the way round and still managed to get out on a 3. That rain was crazy and I mean absolutely MENTAL!!!

I'm observing both days.
-
I made loads of stupid mistakes - just one less dab your glory would have been mine!!! Well done - maybe I should ride more than once a month. Well done to Seb aswell. Not sure If I'm going to ride the next round as I have an interview the next day. Tim "old boy" Ellingham

Well done Phil- had me laughing - I'll have to call in one day. Working at Halfords is a right of passage for a trials rider - I've done it.
