  1. Saw that on Facebook- looks so unbelievably pointless...
  2. Right, here we go. First up pics in the lowered and raised positions: The components: The gas strut had to be turned down by a fraction to clear the ID of the seatpost and I just used a couple of bits of delrin to act as a spacer to the top of the seatpost and a stop which sits on top of the main pivot tube inside the seat tube. It's set up so that at max extension the post sits at the perfect height so it always goes to the right place and I can then lower the post to anywhere up to 150mm when I feel like it. A little bit fiddly to operate the QR on the move to start with but now pretty slick at it and since a lot of dropper posts operate via a lever under the nose of the saddle I didn't think it was too bad. Close up of the ball ended screw that goes through the seat clamp and seat tube: The travel: The only mod needed to the frame: Will add a vid of it working when it finishes uploading. Edit: Hopefully a video...
  3. Will get some sorted. It basically uses a cheap automotive gas strut to provide the upward motion and the seatpost clamp to lock and unlock the system. The seatpost has a groove milled into it with a corresponding sprung loaded, ball ended bolt sticking through from the clamp to keep everything straight. Also used a 25.4 post so that I could use a USE plastic shim as a bush for the post to pass through so as to stop metal-metal contact. Works rather well (and weighs about the same as a 'proper' dropper) even if I do say so myself!
  4. Not trials related but I've made myself a dropper seatpost for my normal MTB. Wasn't willing to pay ~£300 for a 100mm fully adjustable post or ~£120 for a 90mm travel with a couple of position options so spent about £20 and made my own with about 150mm of travel. So far works pretty well.
  5. Is Inspired still under the Mountain Cycle 'umbrella'? Or am I making that up...
  6. Chris Doney did the Top Gear live thing two or three years ago. Lucky bugger got to drive most of the cars as well since the crew was so small! Think he was riding with Jason Finn wearing camo ninja gear or something odd like that... Worlds smallest pic:
  7. Wait, what? I thought it was celebrating Santa's birthday.
  8. I dunno- I was VERY relieved when my son came out normal (wife is a ging).
  9. Update to the proposed test changes on MCN: http://www.motorcyclenews.com/MCN/News/newsresults/General-news/2012/November/nov1912-last-minute-changes-to-bike-test-rules/_/R-EPI-138683
  10. That's a small tablet, not a phone... Don't get them, surely you're going to need a bloody handbag to carry the thing round in?!
  11. Yeah my mum killed her MINI going through a ~1ft deep flood because their intake is pointing downwards at the bottom of the front grill. Genius design. German quality f**king engineering my arse.
  12. Stuck is the same for the three tenses so nice and easy. That bolt's gonna get stuck; damnit that bolt is stuck; f**k me that bolt was stuck.
  13. Combined with having Kenny as the poster boy.
  14. Depends on the frame and BB I'd guess.
  15. Kindle paperwhite? Google Nexus 7? New bike?
  16. If all else fails clamp the end of the axle in a vice and get some leverage on there!
  17. Tighten the other side with the wheel in the frame then undo the stuck one.
  18. Just a shame he's such a fanny.
  19. That's never Sam Pilgrim... He's got all his teeth for a start!
  20. I haven't done anything like that myself but my auntie did the IAM course and thought it was worthwhile. A lot of the people that do the courses are or were police riders so they're bloody fast but always riding within their limits and to the current conditions. I think they're more about looking for dangers, picking up on little things which indicate whether there's a tractor round the corner or whether the corner is about to increase in radius or decrease etc. P.S. This may be the wrong forum for what you're after...
  21. Maybe in theory but not in practice for trials.
  22. When did that happen? Together with: Interesting.
