Hampshire Comp (this Sunday)
monkeyseemonkeydo replied to Wayne-king's topic in Member Organised Rides
Laugh at me more like! I'm really not a comp rider... And Mr Doney just P!$$e$ all over me every time! Ah well... Dave -
I've never been a fan of site's that pop up at a limited size which don't fill the screen...but that's just my preference I guess (or I'm a retard who doesn't know how to maximise it!) But When you can ride like those guys who cares?! Dave

Dj Memorial Ride Anyone? 14th May '05 Portsmouth
monkeyseemonkeydo replied to stuntsbyjon's topic in Member Organised Rides
Provided I'm not in the middle of my exams, hell, even if I am I'll be there. This is going to be a big one...is it worth notifying the authorities and letting them know the circumstances before the date? Just a thought. Dave Marshall -

Hampshire Comp (this Sunday)
monkeyseemonkeydo replied to Wayne-king's topic in Member Organised Rides
From A35 Lyndhurst to Christchurch road, head for Bransgore village. Signs from crossroads in centre of Bransgore. (Y) Dave Edit: I'll be there losing to Chris Doney as per usual riding 20 Expert. Might take the Rex for a play afterwards though... -

Watched the vid a few times now... Is Neil related to Dougie Lampkin?! He looks remarkably similar from some angles!! Sooooo much power :( Dave
-
I know it's not a problem but it is kind of annoying and doesn't fill me with confidence. Dave BTW, just had a reply from Hope (they must screen the forums!) so I retract my previous minor dig!

Whatever angle you look at it from, the end result is that we're all being screwed by the UK importers/dealers. The prices we pay should effectively be trade US prices plus VAT and then some profit. It seems that the way the UK guys do it is if something costs $500 it will cost us £500 which is pure bullsh!t IMO. Dave

I e-mailed them last week and have had no response. I guess I could go lo-tech and pick up that thing you talk into though... Cheers Dave
-
You could try going it a bit of 'shock' treatment- Put a nice big spanner on there then hit the end with a hammer to try and jolt it loose. Other than that all you can really do is get more leverage (or try heating/cooling it but that's not so straight forward). Dave

The problems the clearance between the pad retaining pin and the hole in the pads through which it passes. This allows the pads to rock between the limits and makes a quite harsh 'crack' when there's a bit of force going through it. I'm probably just too much of a perfectionist but I've run a Marta, hayes, a louise 2k and now a louise 04 FR and a mono trial and the Hope is the only one to do this. Dave
-
I recently put a Hope Mono Trial on the front of my Python. It works fine, plenty of power etc but if you hold the brake on loosely and rock the bike backwards and forwards the pads move in the caliper by about 1-2mm, as the pad retaining pin is smaller than the hole in the pad itself. This results in a nice 'BANG' as the pad reaches its limit. Is this a common thing with the Trial brake? I've been a Hayes person until now and this doesn't exactly reassure me of the quality of Hope gear. Dave

Mine probably doesn't make sense to many... Monkey See Monkey Do was an old school trials vid by the legend that is Hans Rey and seeing as I've been riding trials for what seems like an eternity I thought I'd use it. <Dave Marshall> would probably make sense though... Dave

Oh my god!!! Well that's just put a downer on my day! You've just totally changed my ideas of what's possible on a pushbike...and I've been riding for 7 goddamn years!!! Totally incredible riding there, there must be something in the water!! Dave
-
Big congrats Johnny- the site, the vid, the whole ethos of what your doing is fantastic. It was well worth the wait! I'll be giving you a hearty slap on the back when I see you next :P :- Dave :P Edit: and I even got a couple of moves in the 'others' section :P

Right, so I've just painted my T-Rex as the bikes are getting too common and they all look the same. Now I reckon some black tribal graphics down the downtube and over the toptube would look sweet but I'm having trouble tracking down anything in the UK. Has anyone had any experience with getting this sort of thing done? Cheers for any help you can throw my way. Dave EDIT: All sorted, please delete this topic, thanks Trials Punk!

I also agree that Danny Butler should certainly be there. I've known him for many years and in the past twelve months or so (with expert tuition of the Coustellier's) has progressed an incredible amount. I know there are quite a few UCI guys lined up but Danny's British...that should be enough! And as for TRA, if everyone on here donated a quid to him... I'd love to see the powerhouse make mincemeat of some of those compy riders!! He also seems the nicest brick sh!thouse you'll ever know!! Meh Dave

I was expecting Boon to be on the list... Dave

Dont' all those companies already have 4 stroke engines in their crossers etc? I know Sherco are already testing a 4 stroke trials bike, and I expect the others are well into developement programs... It seems to me that 4 stroke has a place in outdoor comps but on the indoor circuit where there are a lot of big steps which require instantaneous power to be available, 2 stroke seems to be more suited. EDIT: As for pictures, here are some from Round 4 at Granada. Dave
-
It's not a case of having no place in trials. 4-stroke will soon be unavoidable due to emissions regulations the bikes must reach. Montesa are just getting a head start on testing in competition. In theory next year while everyone else is struggling the Montesa boys should have extra developement under their belt. Dave

Did anyone get an ID on the BMXer? Gotta be someone like Ashley Charles no? Dave

Was real good fun. Sorry for butting in on your quiet ride HarshRider but I had to break in the Rex you see... Good to see everyone again. Definately confirmed my suspicion that Andy P is inhuman. The boys got far too much power for his size and uses some form of anti-gravity device to increase his smoothness!! Dave
