  1. Not a bad thing... And just to reiterate Ashley, you worry me .
  2. That's exactly it, though even if I don't want to transfer my music somewhere else, why does it rename anything at all in the first place? Why can't I just drag a folder full of mp3's onto the ipod without using annoying apple software? That is illogical and backward. See I just find that gimmicky and sad... Think this has been flogged to death a bit now, thanks to Extreme_Biker0 and Crispoats who seemed to put what I was trying to get at in far fewer posts! At the end of the day all I can see is that apple are deliberately losing themselves 90% of the computing market by limiting what their mac users can do. If they were to make an OS which had none of its current built in limitations or compatibility issues and started selling pc's which (in theory if what all you lovers are saying is true) would be faster, easier to use etc. then they might be able to command a far bigger share of the market instead of limiting themselves as it seems they love doing... or is that just too logical?!
  3. Nowt to do with peripherals, I'm talking software. You look for any kind of downloadable software online and it's pretty much all set up for PC. Most of the more popular stuff is probably available for mac but do apple want to make it difficult for programmers by forcing them to write two completely different programs just for a few people who use macs? Not sure if this is still the case but in a world where 99% of people use Word, although Word is available for macs the file's aren't (or didn't used to be) compatible. Genius. Again, I don't know the ins and outs but it's awkward for the sake of awkward from my point of view. And I have used a mac for a week when I ran a wind tunnel test back in 3rd year of my undergrad. Spent the week swearing at the non intuitive way it did things (albeit being used to a PC) and the fact the bloody thing only had one mouse button. Hated it then and in my mind apple haven't made any steps forward to improve things.
  4. At least I'm not the only one that thinks the whole thing totally moronic .
  5. All my music is in Artist Folder > Album Folder > and almost all of it then has the correct song name etc. So on the hard drive it's fine but to put it on my ipod I have to import it into itunes (which fannies round converting things and god knows what) and then if you look on the ipod itself, itunes has usefully renamed every single mp3 as 3RF65HHJ.mp3 or whatever it turns it into which is about as useful as a chocolate hairdryer.
  6. Ok, maybe if you're used to them they're user friendly, but you can't argue that due to the way the company works they are inherently not versatile or compatible? I'm a 'Research Engineer' (postgrad on better money) developing the vehicle aerodynamics for a major rally team...
  7. And clutter up your computer with an essentially unnecessary additional OS and related files which, if you'd just had a PC like 90% of the world you wouldn't have had to! I still don't see why don't they just make white plastic PC's (running their OS if needs be) but which are user friendly, versatile and compatible with what is virtually a world standard? Edit: Yes I do have a deep down hatred for all things mac but I would really like to understand their logic behind making their systems (deliberately) as incompatible as possible with what the majority of the world use... Please explain!!
  8. *Nods vaguely* But they're just painting themselves into a corner making it more difficult for users to do anything. Edit: and on the legal front: "Apple claimed the "look and feel" of the Macintosh operating system, taken as a whole, was protected by copyright" Surely that's just stupid? Any kind of GUI will be copied and made a skin for another 100 programs the week after it's released. They've been playing with their one button mouses for too long if you ask me .
  9. That's the other thing with apple- everyone slates Microsoft for being evil but in my mind apple are 10 times worse by making it virtually impossible to use anything but their own hardware/software/formats/white plastic things...
  10. Because they're 'cool'. I've yet to see someone with an iphone who hasn't got it out on show so everyone can see they've got an iphone... Big. Wow.
  11. In itunes I presume? But to get music into itunes it plays silly buggers with the file names and type and whatever else. MP4 isn't a 'normal' video format though is it? The world revolves around mpeg... and yup divx is a no no. However, if you get any other brand of mp3 player *goes to amazon to copy the first list he finds* can deal with "AAC (.M4A) support along with MP3, WMA, WAVE and Audible, WMV and DivX/XviD support (320x240)" and I'm guessing you simply drag them from a folder on your hard drive to a folder on the device. Now someone please tell me why the hell apple have to be such awkward bastards?
  12. Well that was 100% not the case when I tried to stick some mpegs and divx files or whatever onto my GF's brothers nano last year. Absolute joke.
  13. My main issue with those are the fact that you have to use whatever format apple decide. Whatever you import it will always convert it to its own stupid format and screw around for no reason. Why you can't just drag and drop .mp3's onto an ipod like you can with any other mp3 player I'll never know. And don't get me started on whatever shitty video format you have to use on video ipods... Grr.
  14. But WHY can't apple just allow people to use 'normal stuff' like that on their own bloody machines instead of making even their fans resort to buying a damn PC as well?!! It's like if Ford made the best cars in the world but you didn't get a steering wheel with them so if you want to actually go anywhere useful you'd need to buy a Vauxhall as well. Crap example but you get the idea- apple are awkward and annoying for absolutely NO reason. itunes and the ipod is a perfect example of that.
  15. Good stuff! Haven't seen Dan since Bristol ages ago I think.
  16. Hey Steve- bike looks sweet! Is that a wedgebodge I spy?! Will have to hook up for a ride sometime- don't suppose you're out in Soton tomorrow? Dave
  17. Yup. Hated them. Have I said that I hate macs? 'Cos I do.
  18. Phone a powder coaters and ask?... From experience you're probably looking at £25-£30.
  19. Well I basically haven't been able to use one for more than a few minutes without wanting to throw it through the nearest window so can't really compare much else. They just seem really 'gimmicky' even the OS with it's flowy futuristic way of working is just for show and doesn't help anything except probably to slow the computer down using silly graphic-heavy stuff. Even things like the 'heartbeat' when you turn off the 'G' whatevers just seems totally pointless to me.
  20. I just don't like Macs. I'd go as far as saying I hate them. No real reason, they just make me angry to use and seem to spend far more time/money making them look... different (Note: not nice) than making them work any better than anything else out there. No right click winds me up something chronic. 'Oh but you can just use the apple key or buy a different mouse' I hear you cry... why the hell should I have to? Just supply the damn thing with a two button mouse to begin with! As I said, apple make me angry. Give me a nice, simple and intuitive to use PC any day of the week.
  21. Reckon I'm gonna ride Soton on Sunday so going to give tomorrow a miss. Sorry guys!
  22. All that's left is for Mr Mackey to say... Mm'kay.
  23. I haven't said 'wobble' once. Or 'mangled'. I simply stated that the BB was likely to stretch the crank spline and cause creaking. That's not wobble, or dangerous, or even a problem really- just a niggle. Tim you're just digging yourself deeper and deeper into a hole that was never a hole to start with.
