  1. I think they're mistaking gimmicks for progress and smart thinking.
  2. Not really. The crown race needs to sit snugly on the steerer which can only happen at the crown of the fork.
  3. As Steve Parrish has said, I wonder if Rossi will consider taking this opportunity to retire... Colin Edwards as well for that matter.
  4. I think a small community like trials deserves to know who they are buying from, particularly if there is a degree of deception involved to try and hide who is really selling the goods. Dan f**ked over way too many people without any sign of remorse in the past and I sure as hell wouldn't ever buy anything from him or someone acting for him. Do spill, Ali.
  5. You could compare his season with that of Lewis Hamilton's, but he was so much more of a happy, fun loving guy he always added something to the mix. He'd reigned it back in a little towards the latter part of the season and was really looking good (third last weekend in Oz). A real loss of a rider just coming into his prime.
  6. Ah, fair enough- the rendering fooled me! Are you planning to try a carbon downtube/toptube to see how it goes?
  7. It'll only need be stock carbon tube (I assume). The expensive bit will be the metal parts!
  8. The carbon looking tubes are carbon tubes, the machined looking (orange) bits are metal (aluminium or welded steel I'm not sure). Following on from that, how tricky is it get it all straight and aligned? Without a jig it must be an interesting problem! Can I ask what sort of weight the final proto has ended up at?
  9. He was trying to keep the bike upright and bring it back. An example of what might've happened with far more room and no Rossi/Edwards to collide with:
  10. Yeah I know, it's just the way it was worded sounded like you were saying Simoncelli had accidentally run a bit wide and was then intentionally scything back in to retake the racing line. Just clarifying for others who didn't see it. See a couple of posts up- Marco had already lost the bike and was trying (and failing unfortunately) to recover. The bike gripped but Marco had effectively fallen off the side of the thing and had no control, bringing him into the path of Edwards and Rossi.
  11. They haven't released any real details. I think it was a bit of everything- massive internal trauma from being hit at high speed by Edwards and Rossi, the head trauma after his helmet came off and potentially neck trauma if Rossi did actually ride over him (which I din't think he did from the initial video angles). I have a feeling that the initial report that came in saying he was conscious may have been incorrect. The first reports say that when the medics got to him he was in cardiac arrest. He may well have been effectively dead before he stopped sliding.
  12. Just to clarify that, Marco had lost it but he was trying to get it back upright and by doing that the tyres continued to grip rather than slide out as you would expect and at that point he had no control over the direction of the bike. If he'd just let the bike slide out initially he would still be here today, but the point is he was a racer through and through and so was trying to salvage the situation and continue. In the end that raw racing instinct cost him his life.
  13. Nobody forced them to join the forces and they also knew what they were getting themselves into. Please, with the greatest respect, f**k off. This isn't the time or the place.
  14. Does it matter? Save some weight and remove the inner ring. Job done Is the mech cage bent? Or can it be 'tweaked to allow it to push the chain over a little more to achieve the movement required? Original (compatible) shifter? Meh, for $20 you should be happy that anything works at all!
  15. What bike are you riding? Is it a long, low 26" or a streety 24"? Really once the front wheel's up you should be jumping upwards to gain the height and then levelling the bike off by pushing the bars out in front of you at the same time as sucking the rear up.
  16. Dic size aside, I went from a mark 1 Fourplay running a Maggy (Phat pads on both smooth and ground rims) to the Team full build with 180 Hope Trial Tech's front and rear and I much, much prefer the discs. They have everything- power, hold, modulation in all conditions and also add to the perceived smoothness of your riding because of the lack of noise. Pretty certain I wouldn't go back to a rear Maggy unless I absolutely had to.
  17. The 180's on my Fourplay Team are more than powerful enough- I honestly don't think you'd need anything more. I've even considered downsizing to give me more modulation/bite at the expense of hold!
  18. Uh huh... That's what I got around 10 years ago and it's still going strong . Mine probably cost about £15.
  19. Alpine bikes are fairly high end and should know what they're doing. They're not just a Raleigh dealer...
