  1. That's a negative big daddy. Almost looks like Ben Savage when he comes down the stairs but not sure.

With regards the logo, yes they could! I bet you on this forum alone there are probably 30+ people who if given the brief could come up with a design which would be far better received than the crap thing Wolff Olins did. Lets face it, it would be harder to do a worse job! I was expecting a wide range of innovative and clever designs but from what I can see on that page all they've done is plonked that awful logo on lots of things. So actually, maybe thousands of people could 'do it'.

But the whole point of design, especially for something like the Olympic 'identity', is that it is aimed at the public, the over riding majority of who have no interest or training on what designers think the identity should be and only what it should be in the eyes of the masses. The crap that Wolff Olins produced is so wide of the mark it's unreal and in this case it's quite clear that any one of thousands of normal Brits could've done a better job which would've been immediately accepted and liked by the vast majority. I don't doubt that's there's a lot that goes on in the background with stuff like this but with the Olympics that abomination that is the 'identity' started things off badly and gave everyone a sour taste in their mouth from then on. The release of these appalling posters only helps to reinforce the belief that those organising the Olympics, together with the talentless drivel produced by many of our 'leading artists' is laughable. Did anyone see the clip of the guy who did the painting that kinda looks like a five level podium? I rest my case... Were Wolff Olins also the geniuses behind the deformed monstrosities that are the Olympic mascots?
  4. Unfortunately, from my cynical point of view, it won't change anything. The system is too deep rooted and set in its ways to change significantly. And then you have the governments defending and protecting the banks to give them free reign to do what they want from the looks of things. It seems to me like although it was the wbankers who screwed everything up for everyone, they haven't lost out in the slightest and it's business as usual for them. It's everyone else who is suffering from the fallout and struggling. Unfortunately I don't think a few people Occupying anywhere will change that.
  5. These 'Occupy The Cotswolds' things are completely lost on me. Occupy Wall Street, fair enough- major trading zone, world renowned financial district, I get it. Occupy Bournemouth? Occupy that area with the steps outside St Pauls? I don't get I'm afraid.

And maybe therein lies the problem... If that's the best the most prestigious design agency's in Europe can produce then Banksy help us. Within days of the logo being released the readers of the BBC website had produced designs 100 times better and more appropriate than the pile of crap we paid hundreds of thousands of pounds to those numpties for. These posters are another example of how pathetic these modern artists/designers are.
  7. I just find him and his riding very, very odd. The guys got skills but he sure is strange!
  8. To be honest, it's not that bad here either. I haven't noticed much to be honest, but then I've got a fairly good job, had savings to allow me to get a reasonably sizable mortgage and I don't really have anything to complain about except the crap interest rates for savings. The problem is that bankers (not people who work in banks but the top bods and those making really, really poor decisions) are basically a bunch of thieving bastards who all need to be dragged into the street and shot. The issue with investments are that nobody ever actually buys or sells anything, and as you say the money never actually exists. If you have the balls to do it you can trade in millions without ever having the assets behind you, provided things go your way. I can see the point of floating your company on the stock market to introduce money to allow development but it makes me sick that people can make billions because of massive human tragedy such as the Japanese earthquake.
  9. It's just one big scam. It's open to so much corruption it's unreal. It pisses me off that the future of a company or our economy in general can be dictated by 'gut feelings', 'fear' an other pathetic emotions experienced by the conmen who are investment bankers. It doesn't work like that though does it in our society. If all my savings were under my mattress I'd be petrified of being burgled or my house burning down or whatever with all my money in it. The banks serve a purpose to protect and hold our money but the fact they have made such a shite job of it in recent years, while ensuring that cunts like Fred Goodwin are paid obscene amounts of money for doing the worst job of running a commercial operation in recent history is a complete joke.

Just seen the new official 2012 Olympics posters. I haven't seen a bigger collection of shite since they revealed the logo for the games... I seriously question the intelligence of the people making these decisions.
  11. That may have been the case in years gone by when life was tough but how would you explain someone who base jumps or proximity flies? They are simply trying to get closer to death for the adrenaline rush it gives. I don't see that aiding their ability to reproduce, escape a lion or live longer.
  12. O RLY? I like the Jack Reacher books by Lee Child. Not exactly literary masterpieces but very readable.
  13. I like some Python stuff, things like the Life of Brian but there was a hell of a lot of complete drivel in the TV program which just appears to be mindless, possibly drug induced nonsense.
  14. Mmm. But that belief is a million miles removed from someone who has a belief in creationism. I have faith in science. I believe in science. I don't see where any parallels can be drawn to someone who has faith in God or believes in He Who Must Not Be Named (oh wait, that's something different isn't it...).
  15. But even without any knowledge of what it means, the science being followed blindly will be based in fact and on observations, not made up tosh.
  16. That's an interesting way to look at it but I don't follow. I think the difference is between blind faith of religion (the belief in something crazy with absolutely no proof or evidence to support it) and the faith in science which is based on observation, measurement and evidence. Quite different I'd say. I can consider something proven by science to be fact because the evidence points to a high probability that it's correct. Religion's consider something to be a fact because they were told so by someone when they were a kid because a book told them it was (mainly aiming that at Christianity of course). If new evidence comes to light changing how we look at something science thought was fact, I have no issues reconsidering and going with it, religions stick blindly to the original tosh regardless that every piece of evidence ever found points to the exact opposite (again, thinking of creationism and all that balls).
  17. Ah, fair do's. I was just thinking that you must have one seriously supermassive hand to be distorting the fabric of space-time with it .
  18. IR SOZ, missed that one. In our frame of reference light is only affected by gravity by a tiny amount. However the fact that its path is 'bent' by gravity is the reason we can 'see' black holes (I think)... From what I've read, photons are not affected by gravity because they have mass but rather gravity changes the shape of space-time. As such, I'm not convinced by JT's theory about your hand and a light source.
  19. So what's the speed of light through steel?
  20. That higher being really can be a bit of a cunt though, can't He?
  21. Sound getting louder depends on the amplitude. For light to change colour it's the frequency (or wavelength) which changes.
  22. I stand corrected, good point, well made! It is however affected by gravity...
  23. I don't believe in Karma as something that really exists, but I do think that things will tend to work out for the best if you're a good person. There are obviously bad things that happen to good people and good things that happen to bad people but overall it comes down to how you treat others and how you are perceived. Apart from the odd minor hiccup, everything in my life has gone pretty frickin' well so far and I put it down to being a generally nice guy who was brought up well, worked hard at school and wouldn't hurt a fly (though spiders I will happily murder). There have been some things where I've been lucky, other things that by coincidence have just worked out well but I don't put it down to the God of Karma rewarding me for being nice to people.
  24. No way! My gran has some just like that! In light transparent pink of course but... I really dislike wearing glasses so wear my contacts as much as possible, though that may be due to the fact I'm virtually blind without them: -9.75 prescription anyone?!!
