  1. DO NOT GET OPEN BEARING HUBS!!! Sorry about that, open bearing are shit and will most likely break (with some exceptions in the form of the higher end shimano stuff, etc...). Also they are not nearly as smooth as sealed bearings, need more maintenance and are structurally weaker. Also I had a problem with the ACS on my bmx, where the outer ring was not very round, so dragged round the lockring, but that may just be the smaller thread ones.
  2. There will be some horse shoe style supports on the top of the seatstay/toptube interface, but that is why I said about the wings, however I can't see that being a problem really, I mean most bikes are like that.
  3. Do you ride in the wet? If not don't grind your rim, get some spanish fly v-pads and the power will be immense on a smooth rim. Alternatively you could get some heatsinks and grind your rim, either will work well. Also what brake are you using at the moment (lever, arms, pads, booster)? If it is something sh*te then change it for some avid stuff and probably get a booster as well (though not strictly necessary).
  4. Yeah everything has been measured up on it (except the diameter of the bb shell as I don't have my bike with me). Also I am not sure on tube what tube diameter I will use yet, hence the snap happy look, just leaving it open to redesigns. If I do build it, it will most likely be made out of 4130. Anybody got any suggestions on how to improve the design? I am thinking I might change the seat tube design to a vertical one with wings coming off on to the seat stays, what do you think?
  5. Agreed, if I had clearence for v-brakes on the rear, i would run them. Vs are the way to go, just get some decent pads. On the other hand if you are set on using maguras you should know that they were originally designed for v-mounts using the evo adaptor. 4 bolt mounts came later (as did the mount system for their road version).
  6. I got bored the other day and started to design a frame which I may end up building (eventually). I then spent a bit of time adding some colour, etc... What do you think?
  7. I think saturday during the day is the way to go!
  8. Is the bike still in the condition it was when you parted with it?
  9. Might come down, will see. What time?
  10. Avids are amazing, adjustable and quite cheap, but they do all develop a bit of wobble. If like most people that does not really bother you I would say to get some of them!
  11. Might come, depends if I go to the cycle show or not!
  12. He lives in Pimlico. Also he went to germany on holiday, hence the bike bag, but I thought he payed Ali well before that. P.S. Ali that is a shame, i rode that bike and it made me want one!
  13. Do a search this has been asked loads of times, for the record though it is a53 carbon steel. However he will soon be changing to using chromo!
  14. You should get on some rides and see what suits you, I would strongly recommend 26" but you may actually feel more comfortable learning on a 20", it is all down to preference. Like everyone else has said, if you feel this is something that you definitely will stick to then spend as much as possible. What I recommend is phoning up tarty as well as supercycles and seeing what they can sort you out with, ask if they have anything going cheap, perhaps used by one of them, most of them change bikes quite often so the bikes are often mint and very cheap.
  15. Technically you could just put your cranks on the wrong side. I know the pedals would be more likely to unscrew themselves, but if you use locktight and occasionally check them it should not cause a problem, just take a while to get used to. However I still don't see the point, most bmxer's who run lhd do so to stop themselves damaging the chain and sprocket when grinding, but that is no problem on a trials bike as everyone runs a bash and don't slide along walls and rails!

We don't have to do london-derby, I think we should do london to brighton which is 100 miles

I will probably do it, I was planning to do london to brighton on my trials bike
  19. Joel is no longer a bedford rider, but I know of quite a few guys from bedford and the surrounding areas. If you have a dual slalom bike go and ride chicksands for a few days and then come back to trials!
  20. I will probably come if I am not busy with uni!
  21. There is a big ride on the 20th all day (check rides section). I am sure that I could ride one or two of the other days depending on uni/hangover as my flat mates are determined to get me properly hammered every night!
