    Result!

Cheers Chap... Was sure it could be done - as soon as I collect the bits from my missus dad i'll be fitting them to see how it all goes. If needed i'll drop it into the bike shop and get them to do the work as when i change the single speed and add the 9 gearset and derailleur i will need a new chain too... Gonna try running it on a single chain ring up front for now - if this proves to underpowered then i'll buy some new cranks and derialleur and convert it to a 27 speed. All in all i've got a pretty good set of parts for the frame so just hope they go together nicely and look the part... Dave

    Result!

Got my bike back from bb fitting this week and really wanted a rear wheel and some peddles so that I can run it. After speaking to an old mate on Facebook he said he had a halo disc fitment rear wheel, dmr single speed, xt rear mech, irc tire and cum pedals for 30 quid! I think i got a bargain for that little lot! Also picked up a 9 speed shimano deore shifter - it has no cable though - will this be a problem or can the bike shop fit a new one easily enough? Dave
  3. Thanks - you mean the Onza Koolchain? http://www.supercycles.co.uk/site_details.asp?ProductID=675 Only one on there and is £6 so must be right?
  4. Put the bike into Albany Cycles in Coventry today for a new b/b to be fitted. Guy is gonna find a crank arm too as the one i threw away was knackered - then just need peddles and my parts from down south and all should be near completed. I'll need a gear cable and chain - how much will the shop charge for this roughly as I forgot to ask whilst there!
  5. Brilliant - Thanks, I'll try getting a spare arm tonight or by the weekend. Dave
  6. Also forgot to mention I'd rather run a single chain ring crank without a front derailleur as they are horrible for my trouser legs when they get caught! Sorry about all this - just wanna get it back on the road!
  7. Thanks When peddling the arm had play on the l/h side... I thought it was just the b/b but after removing the arm I found the square taper was ok on the outer side but on the inner side the square hole was worn and had started to weaken the metal making it head toward being a diamond shape instead - lol I think i have the same metal arm on my other saracen so maybe able to use that as a stop gap on a slightly worn b/b. Will that kit fit my bike? Dave
  8. I'm not looking to make it into a trials bike. I just like this forum! My aim is to have a 9 speed commuter with this frame. Not going to be used for jumps etc - just for a bit of both road and off road use, i use underpasses and go over a couple of off road bits of terrain. On further inspection isis b/b's are far too expensive for me... Looks like i'll need a square taper replacement after all.... Shame
  9. Inside the b/b thread there doesn't seem to be anything about my frame. I bought it on Monday and need a new b/b fitted. In my noob thread someone mentioned it was a saracen x-ess / x-ile frame, circa 2001. Pic: I removed my cranks to find the l/h side is completely knackered - so after some hunting about i found 2 crank sets i like the look of and in my price range. The first is a suntour duro dirt which fits ISIS b/b's only... these look strong(er) than my second option and have a heavy duty guard. If i can fit an isis b/b i will buy the suntour duro cranks but if I cannot fit an isis b/b I have also found a standard square taper crank set. This is the m-ighty x single ring 33 tooth crank set. Can anyone help me out? Will i be able to fit an isis b/b or will i end up needing the m-ighty x 33 toother? Many Thanks Dave
  10. Cheers All... On further inspection the l/h pedal arm is worn and there is slight play in the b/b. Think my daily commuter has a suitable arm i can steal to fit with new pedals as a quick fix but may just put it in for a new b/b as i dont have the tools and give them the parts to refit. Should be getting a new rear wheel / tyre with 9 speed cassette and derailleur, and have also been looking for a 9 speed shifter as single speed is not working for my commute - i used it today and found myself making slow progress! Downside is i'll need to find a new chain, shifter and cables but the rest should be sorted. All in all it should become a pretty decent work hack - just need to find a decent lock so i dont lose this one! lol
  11. Thanks Mate, Will get them stripped of tonight then and keep an eye open for a new set. I would use plastic ones for now but would prefer metal pedals as they tend to have better grip imo... I spanked all my cash buying this last night (only £36 but i'm poor at the moment!) so will be getting this all sorted when paid next week, Basically - left side is right to losen and right pedal is left to losen as a normal thread direction... Think that is right! Dave
  12. Thanks... I think i'm going to try and get the pedals off tonight and get my hands on some new ones ASAP ready to fit. That way when the DMR arrives and is fitted I should have finished my painting of parts and ready for the new wagon to be unleashed! Single speed doesn't really bother me too much but may end up a bit slow on the road... trial and error i suppose - may end up with a DMR and single speed cog / crank for sale! lol
  13. Thanks all, I've currently got the stock Rallye half leather interior which is nice enough - the electric recaro's are very rare and something i'd like in future! How do i get validated? Do i need to contact an admin? Shame about ur bike being stolen - this is partly the reason for riding more often is that my mates bike was a lot more fun for the work hack than the car as i'm not paranoid about parking the bike! Looks like i found a local company willing to true the rear wheel - just need the pedals and single speed tensioner to make her the trusty work hack! Do pedals work on the same basis when fitting - lefty losey rightey tighty? Dave
  14. Thanks I'll buy the DMR and get it setup hopefully rectifying the problem. I've had a look at the rules and all is well - same as most other forums - I mainly play with cars but after buying my pride and joy I decided driving it to work everyday was not the most ideal way to keep it mint! Here is a pic of my car: 1989 VW Golf Rallye For those who have not seen one before - that is a standard body shell - all metal - no bodykit - is like the original R32! Dave
  15. LOL - that just shows how much of a noob i am - i thought as the frame was smaller and dipped toward the back it made it a trials frame!?! I bought the bike with the view to upgrade my current commuter - a saracen furnace mountain bike: I bought the furnace after my specialized was stolen outside the local shop as a stop gap - the specialized was old but did the job! Anyway - hopefully the single speed will be quick enough around town for me else i'll probably convert it back to a 27 speeder with a standard derailleur. Do we think the DMR will fit and work for me?
