Ok, I seem to pick up a different injury every weekend. First I came off a wall and I let the front wheel drop somehow, then landed groin on frame. So painfull, but didnt get my balls luckily. Since then Ive been wary about drops, and Ill only pedal up flat blocks, and not walls I had a foot slip off the pedals trying to kick up stuff and the pedal came round and smashed into my knee. I always wear shin pads and knee pads now. But now when I kick up stuff and bail, the pedals always smack me in the back of the legs and ankles (any ideas how to protect back of legs?) I think the first one is most common.........how many of you have done that one!? What typical injuries have you had and can give any advice how to avoid!? Anybody wear custom/home made protective gear? My main tip would be - dont try stuff thats too big, always work up to it gradually!

So Revolver, you have lost the power? Lets consider the 5 stages of grief: Stage 1 Denial Stage 2 Anger Stage 3 Bargaining Stage 4 Depression Stage 5 Acceptance You must realise the following...... 1. Yes I have the power FACT and No you arent getting it back FACT 2. Anger is not the way forard in trials....angry posts will not help you move on 3. No I will not swap my TRex for your Ciguena 4. Think about your situation and where you want to be, whether this a 5ft pedal up or a 10ft gap 5. Accept Chandler's supreme grasp of the power Get help. You will survive. You will heal, even if you cannot believe that now, just know that it is true. To feel pain after loss is normal. It proves that we are alive, human. But we can't stop living. We have to become stronger, while not shutting off our feelings for the hope of one day being healed and finding love and/or happiness again. Helping others through something we have experienced is a wonderful way to fascilitate our healing and bring good out of something tragic. Monty brake spray is awsome.... problem is it wears off after 1 ride/a couple of hours Its better than tar cos it actually cleans ur pads instead of gunking them up It also feels better (less squishy than tar is the only way to describe) The problem is its too expensive to use regularly (Dont ask me how many sprays you get from each can though lol) I say grind your rims lightly, use tar lightly sometimes, and monty brake spray for special occasions!

Good ride lads, we shud make it a regular Sunday ride Wall outside county courts is my new record! whoo-whoo-whoop-whoop! haha shame i couldnt repeat it ok time for big brother....

Theres no set rules! just use however many it takes to do what u want... I use 1 when feathering the brake for manuals, and 2 for pedal kicks, as sometimes the wheel slides out if I use 1. Feels so dodgy when that happens. However, after using Monty brake spray (yeah im old fashioned) I find I only need one. But that wears off and Im back to 2 fingers after one session. I expect if I grind my rims ill only need 1. P.S. Monkey boy...points 1 and 2 - I expect like me, he uses NMC cos if he asks in full members people will tell him to SEARCH etc. Sometimes you just want to chat rather than Search! I doubt there would be many new topics if people only used search! (plus this is a better place for more beginner type questions such as the above)

How about going straight to onza seeing as ur just down the road in Nottingham!? (personally Id stick with single speed for trials though)

forget it, call her a taxi... as for the way back, how about... http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/part...ild%2Bseats.htm

I think the others have misunderstood ur problem. I have the same issue I think, it seems more natural to keep letting go of the brake now that u can pedal kick etc. So you can pedal kick and remain roughly in the same position, but theres no point wasting the energy, it never is in exactly the same position and it feels sketchy. So it would make sense to lock the brakes permanently once uv gapped or gone up stuff. And only release when ur ready to move forward or off. But to control ur position with locked brakes I guess its a case of going back a step and just practicing to backhop in controlled motions left, right, forward, and backward (with the brake locked). (Have you noticed how difficult it is to deliberately backhop backward more than one hop.) On the other hand, I might be over analysing. In which case, just get out there and practice! Hope this helps!

I wasnt being passe mate. You could say, its more than "terrible" too but lets not nit pick yeah

Ouch thats really unlucky. Im sure we have all fallen off the back of our bikes before, but I guess the lesson is that we should all be wearing our helmets. I know thats something Im guilty for not doing, but Ill try to more now

Sorry about your friend. What was he doing for that to have happened? Big drop? Fall into traffic? (dont mean to be nosey, but perhaps a word of advice to others on here would be usefull) Good that you are continuing to ride though. Let us know if you fancy a group ride in Notts yeah

sorry about the stupid question in advance......... I dont have grips for tightening up cones. They are just circles... Im running sealed hubs, does that mean I dont need to tighten them up? Or does it mean I have to take them apart to actually tighten up the cones. could someone explain please

Theres a creaking sound when I turn my handlebars. Anyone know what this could be? Cant tell where its coming from, headset perhaps. Ill have a go at tightening it all up around there to see if it helps, but otherwise Im stuck. Let me know what you think... -
Yeah I have vertical drop outs (and a tensioner) but not the money for another frame! However I have the money for another chain, so then I can just take enough links out and try it out. Might do that when I have some time. Ill post on here when I try. I defo think its worth doing even if a tiny bit loose. My actual tensioner needs adjusting every week anyway, so the end half of every week the chains always a tiny bit loose as it is! p.s. whats annoying to me is people that dont actually read the links they post. To those concerned, if you actually read the wiki link ull find it doesnt say anything about running single speed on a vertical dropout, without a tensioner, which is what I am on about. Thanks for coming.

Max-T - thanks for explaining clearly I think its worth experimenting so you can run single speed without a tensioner, even if the chain is a tiny bit loose. With a bit of luck it may be ok. I think its a bit idle for people with vertical dropouts to assume that they need tensioners before trying without. Chains arent expensive after all. Others - Common sense would show that Im asking in new members chat because surprisingly enough, no I do not magically know the answer to my question. Especially considering I am NEW to trials. I guess theres always some patronizing ass who wants to have a dig....despite the fact that wiki articles are only brief and do not explain everything.
