    Rear Tyre

Ordered a maxxis high roller 2.5" along with a 2.35" single ply for the front from tarty bikes. Ive done some meausing and it looks like it should fit. I hope so anyway. ill let you know what i think of them when i get them! Seb

    Rear Tyre

used to use one, rather nice, but really dont like the orangy sidewalls, also pinched it quite a few times... Seb Ps, just done some measuring, if the maxxis has the same depth as a michelin, then itll just fit a 2.5" might just go for a 2.35" to be safe.

    Rear Tyre

Ok sounds good Im not sure now whether to go for a 2.5 or a 2.35, my 2.2 michlin fits nicly now but there isnt loads of room, also got a cheapo high roller, 2.5" from bikedock ages ago and had some trouble with that rubbing. Running a koxx levelboss with echo 38mm rim... Wayne: whats the difference to a high roller, compared to a minion, the minion looks like it has more tread, but is it more weighty? Seb

    Rear Tyre

I know there's so many topics about what part shall i get??? (Y) But... at the moment im running a michilen comp 24 2.2" and well its great, never pinched it and grips has been pretty damn good. Only thing now, ive been running it for 9 months and well it's seen better tread :) Could just get another one, but was thinking of trying out a high roller (2.35" 2ply 40a) as everyone seems to rave about them. One question though, how long do they last? I know theyre a very soft compound, but cant really afford to buy a new tyre every few months... Also do they pinch? because i really like not having to ride with tools or a bag and trust my bike is going to be fine. Thanks Seb
  6. Temped to bring both, only thing with my video camera, my brother nicked the firewire cable so i cant upload the footage till i get one! and pc world...£10 or ebuyer 99p, but £3 postage (Y) Also video camera involes not riding so much although can get other people to film i supose. Meh, gonna be a good ride though! Seb
  7. Looks like a good ride is brewing (Y) One question though, shall i bring my digital camera or my video camera? Dont really want to bring both... too much expensive stuff with me otherwise! So would people want a video of the days events or some sweet photos? Seb
  8. Bike is looking sweet (N) good job. What rim you running upfront? I can see you love the brake on it, cos i have a ceramic rim upfront with an XTR, but its too grabby also would like a wider rim but people say the braking is poo on the wide rims. Cheers Seb
  9. :- hahaha Bit harsh though from the guy... :o Seb
  10. My cracked DDG, has the same on the other side. Worked out it cracked from either running a maggy with tar or cutting my seatpost down. Thats my theory anyway... Seb
  11. Im going out to ride in Brum now, anyone in the area and fancies a ride too, ring/text me on 07792392327
  12. Probably will get bored of riding urban soon, and with the weather getting better... Any natural around brum, preferally near train station (within 5km...) Cheers Seb

    Maguras Suck

I went to a avid ultimate on the rear and well its the a lot nicer than a maggy in my opinion, i know a really nice set up maggy was great (i owned one) but they were quite tempremental, always seemed to be something wrong every now and then. Went to vee, with std pads on smooth rim wasnt brill, std pads on a ground rim was real good but wore down in like a week. Got some plasmatic v flys and set them up prefectly on a smooth rim (6months ago) havent touched it since!!! Its been awesome, i prefer the feel and hasnt slipped majorly ever, no more than my maggy ever did anyway. Pads are looking very worn now, just orders some Heatsink vees and i look forward to another few months of really good braking and no maintainence :) Pro riders will use them because their company's decided to put 4 bolt mounts on their frames so dont have much choice. Also theyll get new pads and rims etc when they want so they can make their maggy work well all the time... Either way both are great, just had bad luck with my maggy so prefer my vee loads now!!! University

Im doing chemical engineering at the moment at university of birmingham, in my first year. I needed BBB to get in, seems to be that way for all the unis for MEng CCC for BEng. I think imperial offered me ABB. You need to have Maths and Chemistry or Physics plus one other. I did Maths, Chemistry, Physics and Biology for AS got BBCB respectivly. Dropped Physics for A level, because i found it difficult and uninteresting. For my A levels, got BCC (chem, maths, bio) which i was really disapointed with and thought i wouldnt get into uni and couldnt face another year at VI form. Luckily though even though i dropped two grades on my offer, they still let me in, I think that comes down to the lower interest in Chemical engineering, not so many students apply to it compared to other courses. Also the interview will have helped loads, mine went really well. Also they see your marks too, i was like 32 marks off getting ABB... Dont worry about interviews though, they dont really ask academic questions. They just want to find out about you to see if you do have a personalitly!! As they will probably get everyone applying with AAA or BBB, so inteligence doesnt matter so much. Good luck everyone with offers and interviews. Seb
  16. :P really want to come but have lectures all day! Anyone want to ride saturday aswell? i can make it then :wink2: Seb

hello fellow chemical engineer... Im doing it at birmingham uni though, didnt want to live in london so turned down UCL and Imperial, then prefered birmingham a lot more to bath Seb
  18. I have that tool, i like it a lot, only niggles... 8mm adapter thingy is on the 5mm allen key, and being the most used the 8mm bit gets in the way sometimes, would be better on the less used 6mm allen key. My friend had a different version and one of the side bits snapped :wink2: maybe metal or stronger sides should be used. Tried to true a wheel yesterday and well the nipple key on the tool is very poo :P Also i find with multi tools there is never a screwdriver that fits mech/v brake adjustment screws nicely and the heads end up getting recked quite quick. On an old mutil tool i had it had a knife that was useful... Other than that theyre really useful!! Seb

I was thinking the same this time last year, with my bmx, xc bike and of course my trials bike! Took my bmx straight away, as i had bought it especially for uni to get about and substitute my trials bike. Locked that in the halls lock up. Came home the second weekend, to get my xc bike so i could join the xc team decided itll go under my bed, was gonna take my trials bike too, but they wouldnt let me take two bikes on the train :P 6 weeks went past and well to be honest yeh i missed my trials bike a bit no and then but was doing so much i didnt really mind. Then my pc monitor broke, and didnt have enough money for a new one and had a spare at home, so my parents brought that up, along with my trials bike :P Someone moved out of our flat so we had a spare room which i then kept my xc bike and bmx in, and sat my trials bike in my room so i could look at it, also a very good convo starter with new mates with no saddle and all :P" This semester, got my bmx locked up outside my flat and my xc and trials bike sitting in my room. So far we've had two inspections, one at xmas when well i wasnt there and all my stuff was at home and second the other day but im at home again with glandular fever and both my bikes :) Also spoke to my halls president and he says they dont care about bikes as long as it is not a safety hazard, in terms of blocking fire exits... As for the bike lock ups around the halls, mine got broken into a couple of weeks ago door mearly kicked down and a few bikes taken, luckily all my bikes not in it. Wouldnt trust leaving my trials or xc bike in there... :P Anyway, should stop the essay :P Scope the halls first, then get it later on, have words with other people etc. Dont let your bike ruin your degree... after all 2nd year youll get your own flat/house so bikes dont matter then :P Seb

    How Comes...

The king uses two teethed rings, with 72 teeth, these teeth are probably impossible to break, will only wear out after a long period of time. The two rings are pushed togother with a spring and in one direction, the teeth slide over each other, the hub disengages. In the other direction the teeth lock, the hub engages. there you can kind of see how it works. As for the bulb A ring of teeth in the hub (32) are engaged/disengaged from the drive train via three prawls and springs. These can easily break especially with smaller teeth, as there are only three points where the hub engages at any given time. this shows the prawls in the freehub body. As for the Hope mono/xc it works in exactly the same way as the bulb, only there are 16 engagement teeth, making them bigger, as you dont need to fit as many in the hub, this in turn makes the engagements stronger, making it less likely to break. Hope that clarifies things. Seb Ps: if i have anything wrong, please say as this is how i understand they work but i am no expert... :S
  21. Me thinks Tarty Bikes are the cheapest place for zoo pythons, also they have a selection of rims have a look :D Viz also make some nice mod rims, very similar to the echo ones, just in lots of lovely colours :- Hope that helps Seb
  22. Interesting idea. I think i would be worried about individual bits of the pad coming off as they dont have as much adhesion as one larger pad. Try it out though might work brill :- Seb
  23. I got mine tapped by some engineer in my area in about 5mins for free... Could have bought a tap and tool for less than a tenner and done it yourself in less time. Unless you're talking about a helicoil, then i understand... Seb

    How Much Psi?

The best PSI, is firstly one you feel the most comfortable with, use want you want. In terms of performance you want to use the lowest possible to get better grip. Try lowering your pressure until you end up pinching, then well dont go quite that low. Even though i wont get a pinch puncture i dont like rimming out, so i get my pressure just low enough so that i dont rim out too much only on big drops or something. Anywho, to be honest who cares just go ride....... Changes in pressure probably wont produce noticable changes in performance. If i ever deflate my tyre i just pump it up till it feels about right, usually a bit higher then i can let a bit out when im riding till i like the feel. Seb

    Silver Rims

This is very true, even have a wheel i could use in my garage *sigh* didnt even think about it!! Added you... And how would i attach the rotor to my hub... :( Ive got my xc bike back with me now which has a front disc might have a look at using that for a bit see what i prefer. Seb
