hey guys.... whilst playing with grinder speeds in my room reshaping a set of plaz pads to go onto my doublewide rim, it suddenly dawned on me that my grinding problems could be down to grinder speed.... i used to use a bog standard clarke £25 grinder, 600w motor, single speed, just ur normal trials riders grinder.... using 4.5'' metal grinding discs.... when i left that out in the rain it died.... so i invested in a really nice grinder. still 4.5/5'' discs, but this time a 1200w motor and vairable between 6 speeds.... naturally, ive always been grinding on the highest speed. its just hit me tonight that if im grinding with a disc speed FAR faster than most people, arnt my grinds in theory going to be MUCH smoother and finer? looking at my grind now it appears to be VERY fine, with many small grooves all very close together.... when i feel it, it feels a lot like an old worn grind, its not sharp, or even rough at all :P my rear brake doesnt work AT ALL right now.... it just slips constantly.... could grinding speed be my issue? i dont want to go and try 6 grinds on my rim to see which is best.... as its a new rim and id like to grind it as little as possible! any ideas or suggestions would be great! thanks guys! desperate nick with no rear brake!

thats bollocks to be fair.... although its also bollocks that they will actually make your car realisticly any faster.... sure, they CAN add a few bhp, although its VERY minimal, and not an amount most people will notice.... they make Mr. Racer in his 954cc 106 THINK its quicker, because he gets an irritating induction noise-if its louder it must be faster right? its a start by all means, but its hardly a performance mod.... when used on a highly tuned engine tehy are essential.... if i stuck a standard airbox on my mini id probably loose a good 8-10 bhp instantly! i highly doubt they will slow a car down.... as tehy are designed to increase airflow, which can only help! although if the feed pipe diameters are too large, they would cause the air to move slower.... which in theory could give a slightly slower throttle response....

bitches! more suggestions please....

hey guys.... ive got my new rear rim all built up now.... but ive managed to mess up the grind and it just feels HORRID, the grinds TOO light and my brake doesnt work AT ALL basicly.... so i need to grind my rim again! i did the first grind at home, where ive got lots of open space, and extension leeds galore! at uni im on the 6th floor, i my room, surrounded by people.... where do i grind my rim? theres no power points outside, or in the bike lockers downstairs.... its SO loud to do in my room, and will send metal bits everywhere.... do i just risk it and put dust sheets in the corner and make lots of noise? any ideas on where to grind a rim when at uni would be great! cheers! nick

i used ot think it was impossible to bunnyhop my t-rex with a 120x6 stem and onza carbon risers, until i actually stopped telling people it wasnt possible and tried it.... its easy! takes a fair bit of getting used to.... ut once oyu get it mastered, its really not so bad! i can do fairly large (5ftx3ftish) bunnyhop gaps up to stuff, and can bunnyhop around 43'' to backwheel.... all after just a week or so of trying, having previously not bunnyhopped for abot 3 years!!!! dont make your bike feel nasty :turned: learn to ride it properly.... just to prove my point.... i had a few goes on mates bikes last wednesday, trying mega spins.... Leeson-couldnt spin it at all revel-could hardly spin it really-rubbish attempt orange zero-not a chance back onto my rex, and i pulled off the most perfcet mega spin, going way past 360 degrees.... first time.... long bikes rule!

Excuse The Newbie Style Post.... Avid Disc-185 Or 203?
Prawny Baby replied to Prawny Baby's topic in Trials Chat
i hope so too ash! im hoping that with super stiff hifi forks ande a 203mm disc, the brake should be pretty voilent :) itll be nice to start using the front wheel properly again :- how are people bedding avids in these days? i remember it always used to me mud for hopes and water for magura discs.... i seem to remember mud working well on my old avid.... do people still bother with putting stuff on the rotor to help? or will it work well if i just set it up and go ride? cheers lads! nick -

hmmmmmmmmmmmm the 203 is looking ever mroe tempting i must say! is chain reaction as good a place as any to get one? -
no no, the thread cant be locked yet! theres more to say! you need to strip the WHOLE frame, including the laquer on the back end, or itll look crap! use nitromors all over the frame, paint it on continually, REALLY thickly! no wire wool or anyhting abrasive! just wipe it off with a cloth, and if neccessary, use a nail brush on the tough bits! once thats done set to it with the T-cut! use LOADS, work on little tiny bits at a time! once done, go over the whole frame to remove any nasty finger marks :S then wax the whole frame with a decent quality auto wax! which sprays/wipes on, then drys and you buff it off! this helps keepo it shiney for longer! i havnt done mine again sinse i first did it in June, so i reckon giving it a quick polish every month would keep it looking PERFECT! if you've done it properly the frame will be like a mirror to look at! and you dont need to repolish that often! to do it really well took me 4 hours for the frame AND stripping/sanding/polishing a set of echo urban forks its worth it! it looks awesome!

hey guys! its jsut as well i didnt sell those front louise discs in the end.... as they have both just broken on me! got the bike out this morning for one last thrash before i build the hifi.... and my front brake was pulling to the bars-no fluid-and strangely no signs of where its gone either :P either way its dead! (2000) built up the hifi and stuck on the other louise disc ive got (2004) and within 10mins all the fluid had leaked out via the calliper.... so im now stuck with no discs and disc only forks.... new brake time! i was planning on getting a 180mm hope mono trial, but due to some serious money issues, thats TOTALLY out of the question now :S so- i need a super cheap brake with loads of power- back to the good old avid BB7 i think! question is.... 185 rotor or 203? its going to be run on a hifi fork, so its nice and strong. my only issue with the 185 was that it suffered from SERVERE fading when used down a hill at all! are the 203's any better at heat dissipation? do the 185s come with the same rotor they used to? or is it that new one with less holes? is that any better at heat dissipation? should i go for the 185 or the 203? and is there anywhere that does them especially cheap? i cant stand not having a good front brake :P its ruining my riding totally! so arguements for and against each brake please.... either will be run with an xtr lever and random decent cable i find at home this weekend.... do many people use the 203? anyone got any pics? cheers desperate nick
