  1. Well here it is, its not sprayed up pink yet, but will be after christmas, after a few months of gathering parts the back wheel finally arrived today, and the mod is complete! heres a pic of tori on it outside her (pink) house: more to come later, off for a ride now
  2. you lazy b*****d martin! its really such a waste to pay someone else to do such an easy job..... you only go to uni for 4 hours a week, so its not as if your stretched for time!there are another 36 working hours in a week before you even go into your own social time! wouldnt take more than a good afternoons work!
  3. oh dont worry ben, ill admit that the clio is faster than mine, and will handle better and be a more involving drive, but i personally think the 8L looks FAR better than the newer 8P, and the interior really is pretty lovely, the seats in mine (if thats what you mean by fabric) are lovely and supportive, and show no signs of wear after even 130k miles! ill admit its not going to be as quick around a track perhaps, but you cant class it as a comfy motorway car.... its still a bloody laugh to drive, and one of the quickest modern cars ive been in around the bends.
  4. theres really very little weight difference between the clio and the A3 though.... my A3 weighs 1145, and bens Clio weighs 1035, so its only 100kg, its a much more chuckable car than people seem to think! and far lighter than people give it credit for! the thing with it is, its a comfy every day car thats still GREAT fun to drive, whereas things like the clio need thrashing to get the best from them, in the A3, you dont need to drop a cog to overtake, its just got so much torque all the way through it just goes without needing you to work at it. its really nowhere near as heavy and sluggish as people seem to think. maybe it wont have quite the same light feeling as the clio does, but given a set fast sweeping bend, id put money on the audi being able to match the speed of the clio through it on speed. the sheer grip is just insane!
  5. it'd be interesting to get a direct comparison on that one ben! the audi handles insanly well for what is a fairly large car, its by no means in the same league as the mini, but then again, nothing is..... id be very interested to see how the clio handles round the twisites! tf track day is needed i reckon
  6. i think the services tend to cost £170 a time on the audi, which seems standard fair for most vw's and audis. interior trim wise, if you go for the 1.8 T they are all sport models, which includes MUCH nicer very supportive seats, which are height adjustable too, electric windows, mirrors, heated door locks, power steering, front drivers, passengers, and side airbags, alarm and immobiliser, remote central locking, over speed warning which you can set yourself on the move, onboard trip computer displaying loads of stuff. extras include the Bose sound system which is incredible, and almost all of them have air con as well.
  7. in that case then id let budget decide what you get..... look into the tunning options of both cars. i know the LET motors are easily tunned a simple remap on the A3 T should see you between 195-205bhp from £400, and roughly 220lb/ft. if you add to that a CAI ~£60-£150, a High flow downpipe and decat £100, a decent exhaust system ~ £150-£300, along with a remap, you should see in the region of 230bhp. All A3's need lowering to look right, as i find mine sits far too high, although lowering springs cost less than £100, and to do it properly, a set of Jamex coilovers can be bought for £300, which are apparently pretty good. personally, i prefer the shape of the Audi, although the Astra is a very nice looking car. for me, the Audi reputation would win it, as we have all heard the jokes about vauxhals, despite them having amoung the best engines around. it really is down to personal preference. what sold me on the 1.8 20vt in the end was the tunning capabilities of it. in one of my favourite cars. EDIT: andy P just linked me to this ^^^ bog std body work, only mods are porsche rims and lowered on KW coilovers
  8. Ben Lees got a clio 172, as has andyroo i believe, so ask them about the renaults we all know who the forum vaux people are, so im sure tehy will say their bit i will of course suggest the audi, as its going to be much better made than either a vaux or a renault, and has a serious rep for reliability. cheapest quote ive found is 900 for me on my A3 1.8 T sport, with 1 year ncb and a crash against me. ages 21 with 3years ncb you could insure an S3 for as little as 800, which is pretty awesome. so the insurance on them really isnt too bad. for 8k you could get an older S3, or a VERY mint 1.8t, or 1.8t quattroand still have change to chip it up to 220bhp.... personally, if your spending the money on a sporty small car, id go with something turbo'd, as they tend to be far more driveable. things like the clios and stuff need to be thrashed to get the best, as they lack the lower down torque which makes the turbo cars so easy to live with. which ever you go for, get something with a blower
  9. congrats matey! we need to get a parents sub section going, so you and steve can stay up late discussing nappies hope the missus is well, and wont get too tired looking after two kids now lots of love Nick and Tori
  10. i find this is quite a big problem too! i was trying a sidehop around 42-43 inches yesterday, and it just wasnt happening, apparently i was making the height easily, and taking my foot off after making the height i then went to a smaller sidehop just to practise the technique a bit, and i was so conditioned to taking my foot off at the top, that i started doing it on the tiny easy sidehop as well!!!!! AAAARRRRRRGGGGGHHHHHH!!!!!!!
  11. god this could take some time worrying thing is, half the bikes in daves list have either come from me, or been sold to me started off, year 2000 i think 19'' Kona Lava Dome saracen X-ess for 14th birthday (still alive!) Saracen X-tort (cracked) Brisa B26 (cracked in 6 places) Trek Brusier two (still got) orange Zero (cracked) warranty B26 (cracked) Echo Es3 (headtube fell off) warranty Zero (cracked after a day) warranty ES3 (cracked) another warranty Zero-sold to scruff planet X zebdi mk4 (sold to WINSLO!) Mission reefer (cracked) Koxx levelboss 1065 (sold) Onza T-pro 02 (sold) Onza T-master (from davetrials) BT 5.0 prototype (TO davetrials) Fake Coustellier (the one pete wrights currently riding) (from davetrials) T-rex (from davetrials) Echo HiFi (what a joke! sold after a few weeks) Ashton Justice (stolen) Echo ES3 (most old school build EVER) Ashton Justice (spanking new full build from tartybikes) (sold) Zona Zenith (current steed-loving every second of it) Echo Team (part ownership with my lovely lady) damn, thats only 25, so i cant compare to dave
  12. the zenith has vertical dropouts, just like all stocks (anyone who gets cocky and mentions the new things appearing gets shot) so you will have to run a tensioner. you say you hate tensioners, but i find it hard to believe you could hate anything but the price of a rohloff...... get a zenith get a rohloff tensioner. live happily ever after.
  13. then why are you now running a 203mm avid we all know you dont even need brakes rowan..... i had a 160 for about 6 months, and it really was WANK, didnt excite me at all, and in that time i stopped doing ALL front wheel moves, as it just didnt have a chance. the 180 however, was awesome!
  14. 2nd at 20? common sam, thats not driving sensibly! when im in an economical mood, i hit second by 5mph and 3rd by 20 at the latest........ a big engined turbo like that sri should pull nicely in 4th from around 30mph, and 40-45 in 5th. around town im always always just ticking over in 4th! you need to self impose a rev limit i reckon, and also, dont allow your right foot to hit the floor at all unless your slowing down! conciously make sure you dont ever reach what, and try and impose a 3000rpm rev limit. it seems to work for me.
  15. sadly, i dont think this is going to work at all.... being a turbo engine, it will be low compression, so fuel effiecieny will be FAR worse than the n/a version of you rengine if you were to run no boost. also, with a boost controller fully closed you will still run standard boost i think, which i guess will be 6-8psi. also, being low compression, if you were able to 'turn off' the turbo, it would be SERIOUSLY slow, as the compression is so low to allow it to run the turbo effectively. just drive more sensibly, it CAN be done i assure you.... in my A3 turbo i get around 20mpg around town, and 30ish on a run driving NORMALLY (not quickly) yet on a good long motorway journey, if im acreful to keep the air con off, and stick below 95, i can return 45mpg, as i did over a 300 mile journey from northampton to cornwall. also, no matter HOW hard you try to drive economically, you can do better.... i drove to frome in somerset to see Si the physio, and i managed to make 36mpg on the journey, which i thought was awesome considering it was the whole way up the windy coast road! my mum drove back, normally, in the same time i did, and somehow got 38mpg its literally about driving slowly and sensibly..... no matter how hard i try, i just cant drive as economically as my mum, im just too used to going faster.
  16. sounds like it needs bedding in still to me! try pouring water over the disc, or if that fails, a little bit of mud. a single pot louise should be imensely powerful on a mod, as i found them to be great even on a stock! if its got a static pad itll either be the 2000 style, or 2001. if the lever is like the 04 hs33 but with a resevoir, its year 2000, if its got a lever like the newer style hs33 and louise discs, itll be 2001. after that they went to twin pot. also- its a 160mm disc. not 165
  17. 934 posts, 37% of my posts..... which is interesting, because it says my total posts is 1619, although, if 37% is 934, then my total posts should be 2525........ EDIT: oooooooooooooooooooh, just realised that posts in chit chat dont go towards post count, and 1619+934 comes out very close to the 2525 i worked out......

    My New Vid

haha why would you delete your own vids?
  19. probably about 20mins after the first bakery opens bigman doesnt get out of bed unless theres a good chance of a pasty.
  20. hehe rob said 'wanger' seriously though matey, theyre LOVELY bikes, but why do you need 3 trials bikes? i can understand a mod and a stock if your loaded, but surely two stocks is just going to confuse you in terms of adapting technique for a certain style of geometry? main difference being high/low bb tapping style on the echo and the mbk? not knocking it, id love another bike, just interested....
  21. haha because they never sell anything plus, they wont without them on the site anyway!
  22. legendary you for got senior members! a group to which bigman himself belongs. i biggy
