T-f Car Meet V93 - October 11th - Rock Of Gibraltar
Prawny Baby replied to Prawny Baby's topic in Chit Chat
absolutely as far as I could possibly consider going for a meet..... it's like 2 1/2 hours away, not to mention £50 round trip in fuel. -
i can't come up north I'm afraid, my pathetic 197bhp isn't enough to get me up hills it'll have to be a southern meet lads!
-
my old man's always been really into trials and riding in general, he got me into XC back when I was a kid, and I just sort of ended up doing trials after a few years. my old man still comes along to local comps on his King Kikapu and makes amusing comments whenever anyone 5's a section

In that case, fix your damn bike and come riding with us more often Ash!!!! Edit: I started off riding with my school mates, then over time, I started making new mates from all sorts of places through meeting up on rides and finding we had other shared interests. I'd definately say I've found some/most of my best friends on this forum over the past 8 years

Mowgli And Prawn Enjoying The Sunshine!
Prawny Baby replied to Prawny Baby's topic in Riding Pictures
Lukeys bike is anything buy shiney! It's about the most matt finish you could ever get! Still, rides lovely though (despite nasty 18:15 gearing) Big fella appears to have written his name on his bike.... -

Mogs, that's the Oak green mk2 we were looking at last night on the way home! That opening scene is driving into southsea skate park Awesome vid!
-
how is it that Stan manages to show no facial expression what so ever when riding? yet most of us pull a lovely gurn, as demonstrated nicely by adam in the sidehop pics! Lovely riding guys, and nice to see you on a stock again adam!

He did, he's a tool. All pads these days tend to be in cheapy powerpad backings, which are known to snap from time to time. If anything, it's mos likely they snapped because the rock pads are TOO good. Still funny though, never seen anyone flip over the bars like that from a brake slipping

If the last 3 days are anything to go by, Brown bear's on fire since getting the Kenny!

the old paint job on mowgli's frame was BATTERED. it looked proper awful. Looking for a cheap and easy way to make it look a bit more respectable, without silly amounts of work, we decided to sand blast it. Mowgli blasted it himself down at my house, using a cheapy machine mart sand blast gun and about 40kg of Kiln dried sand from B&Q! the old paint was so bad it needed blasting before any new paint went on anyway. We just boshed some laquer over the blasted finish to stop it oxidising. In the flesh it looks pretty sweet too!

Mowgli And Prawn Enjoying The Sunshine!
Prawny Baby replied to Prawny Baby's topic in Riding Pictures
The skip seems to move fairly regularly Nick! It's just always back in a similar place. Currently, it's much closer to the wall at 1 end, meaning you have to go at the end I am in the pic or it's very close to catching a pedal comming up. -
Mowgli And Prawn Enjoying The Sunshine!
Prawny Baby replied to Prawny Baby's topic in Riding Pictures
yup, it's real, not faked, photographic proof that I can still ride a trials bike, although to an altogether fairly average standard when compared to the 'glory days' of 5 years ago.... God I miss those days of riding, and bikes like this: Taken christmas day 2003! -
Evening chaps and chapettes, we awoke today to find it was incredibly sunny and dry for a change, so after lunch, me and moggles headed out for a few hours in pompey for the first dry ride this year! Nothing amazingly special, and all pics taken on my cybershot C902 phone. We were just so shocked to see the sun we took a few pics for proof! Mowgli up the wall: Follwed by the gap: Same gap done to front (thank god for uber front brake): Little sidehop up the skip by me from the lower wall: The Typical Prawn Ass Shot you were all so desperately hoping for: Similar Tap from Mowgli, clearly enjoying his new bike! Then a sidehop by me, which I did years ago easily enough, but for some stupid reason (probably being a fat b*****d) I've not made it for AGES until recently! And thus concludes our little afternoon ride

would you crash it too?

I say keep it open! We're bound to need it again one day if numbers get too high....

I know what you're saying, and it makes a lot of sense. My A3 is a 1.8 20 valve, and instead of a big lairy turbo, it runs a very small turbo, at very high boost. It actually gives remarkably good throttle response comming out of corners if you feed the throttle in gently. If you mash it then get scared and back off things get a bit interesting, as you get a big whack of boost, then it drops and starts to rebuild when you back off, and that's not smooth, or fun at all. Once that's happened, you can forget getting the power down properly. If you're careful with it though, you can ease the boost in to the point where you can basicly feel you're on maximum traction, and you know not to floor it any more until you've straightened up generally speaking, I'll aim to see about 10psi of boost as I pass the apex of a bend, building it up to the full 20 or so by the time I've straightened out totally you know what I think about your S discs! They're Whoafully inadequate!

Common Kev, you're not going to spend all that money on an engine then stick exactly to all speed limits are you? Ultimately, you modify your car to make it faster. and it's not about ultimate speed, it's STILL about acceleration. Take 2 roundabouts for example, a 120bhp VTS may be able to take each roundabout at 40mph, it may also be able to reach 60 between the two roundabouts before braking back down to 40 for the turn. The 300bhp saxo may well reach 90 between those same two roundabouts, but can still only take the corners at 40, so it needs bigger brakes to slow it down to the same speed. You're probably going to say he can just start braking earlier, but of course, that isn't the point, as we dont make our cars faster just so we can start braking sooner do we? same as above really, standard brakes on a modified (for performance) car are simply dangerous, and there are no two ways about it. they may stop you once, maybe even twice, but standard brakes over heat and fade easily, in just about all cars. My audi standard brakes, even with uprated pads and drilled/grooved discs simply wern't up to the job of stopping it with 200bhp. They over heated very easily, without driving dangerously at all. the same applies to my Mini 8.4's with drilled/grooved discs and ebc greenstuff pads. even they overheated easily, and wern't great for anything other than mildly fast road. As for locking up the polo wheels, I'm sure you can. Remember it's got shitty small tyres too, which offer little friction. so long as the brakes are better than the tyres, you will always be able to lock up wheels. try getting some wider/better tyres on there, and I bet you won't lock them up half as easily. As for high powered FWD cars, it all really depends on how well the chassis and suspension can cope with the power. my audi runs just under 300lbft (remember it's torque that causes all the problems!) and in the dry it has no trouble at all putting the power down. In the wet, 1st and 2nd gear are useless, and 3rd needs caution comming off roundabouts, but generally speaking, it's fairly managable, and you learn to use the power sensibly. I've been running that power in the audi as a dailly driver for the last year with no real issues
-
people have been argueing that point for ages Will, and no matter how you look at it, it doesn't really apply! With more power, you're going to reach much higher speeds between the corners, so need bigger brakes to slow you down faster! You wouldn't leave standard brakes on a mini with a monster turbo engine would you?
-
Why the need for that Simon? It's a known fact that the saxo and 106 share the same chassis and suspension. Clarkson even voted the 106 Gti the second best handling car in the world, claiming it was better than an S1 elise Just because it looks like a f**king train wreck doesn't mean it wont handle well. Sure, the wheels are clearly too big, but it's still likely to be pretty good. Anything with that power is bound to have some decent shocks/springs behind it at the very least. My only comment would be that the front brakes look a little on the small side for something with 300+ bhp! You're just bitter because your Jap box is broken Again

Does Anybody Live In Any Of These Locations..?
Prawny Baby replied to Dr. Nick Riviera's topic in Chit Chat
well, he's an axe murdering sycopath, with a tendancy to randomly (pointlessly) remove dashboards from perfectly good cars. he likes to cook meat only, is potty trained, but doesn't like girls. knows how to use a catflap. All in all, a great housemate. -
booooooooooooooo, silly sweeds

well, I wasn't implying a cash settlement if that's what you mean. it's all about making your own justice.
