  1. What's the cut wire Rich? Something 4wd related?
  2. I love the sound of that. What power is the passat? 80bhp? Assuming 80bhp that'd give the train a whopping 32bhp/ton! Amazing
  3. I think what most people in England will fail to realise, is that 90% of the aftermarket parts sold in britain already have the type approval required, because the UK is only a small chunk of the market, all the products from big manufacturers already have TUV approval and the like. When buying Goodridge brake lines for example, you can pay an extra few quid to get the TUV cert with them! For this reason, like you say, the big companies won't be effected, and if anything, tuning outfits will seek some form of approval to fit such parts, and then they will potentially benefit as well. it's the little guy that'll get hurt.
  4. New company car has arrived! And I'm hugely ashamed to admit, that I really rather like it. it has the longest name in the entire world though, it's a Renault Megane Coupe 1.9 DCi 130 Eco2 Dynamique TomTom. haha, what a mouth full! Mega spec inside though, Satnav, cruise, bluetooth, bluetooth audio streaming, auto lights, auto wipers, keyless entry. it's french, and it'll probably break, but it was free, and I won't pay a penny if it breaks
  5. I see what you mean now makes sense. At 21, the m3 was the most expensive car I could possibly manage to drive, a did. At 25, the a3 wasn't the most expensive car I could afford by along way, but I chose to stick with it. I now have a focus tdi Point taken
  6. No offense intended with this one dear boy, but I think that's a load of crap You all ran boring cars because you were poor students! I ran my A3 daily for 2 years whilst earning good money, and it was FANTASTIC in every way. Fast enough for track, comfy enough to cover 500 miles per week, and smart enough for a job interview. 224bhp, 40mph on a run, looked great, but subtle enough not to stand out. I cry a little inside every time I remember that it's not parked outside any more.
  7. yea, but you're a Fkn LED whore Paul, we all know that
  8. I've heard of young lads having insurance cancelled after a crash because they've stripped the rear out. The argument is, that it's dramatically changing the weight distribution of the car, and thus can have an adverse effect on the handling. it's also removing substantial weight and thus increasing performance. Stupid I know, but I've known people get screwed because of it. Whilst it may no effect your premium when you call up, at least it'd be on record. Too quick to jump on jardo this time guys. Sure, when he throws out a line, by all means bite back, but on that occasion it was just sound and sensible advice. attitude not required.
  9. Looks awesome Bucky! Any plans for some Go to match the show?
  10. Was going to say, it's not a failure yet anyway so he's trying to mug you off! I'd be HIGHLY surprised if the part wasn't available new anywhere in the UK too, it's an octavia, it shares almost all its parts with an A3, golf, leon, and TT, between them some of the most common cars on the road!
  11. Powah. Clearly, haha. I don't know man, it's cursed. my car and driveshafts do not mix. Going to sack off the over priced audi bolts, and replace them with 12.9 grade cap heads and Nordlock washers. I'd like to see the f**kers come loose then! I think the car is a bit upset to be honest, 1 month to the day after the big crash and I've thrown it together and given it another pasting. I just think it needs a bit of time and attention and good thorough check over. Nearly 3 weeks until the next trackday, so it should be fine
  12. I'm only joking dude, just on a bit of a downer about the thing. Several electrical issues on SAturday at Goodwood robbing the car of power, then a driveshaft came away from the box last night ruining the shaft, box output flange, and possibly damaging the box casing, I need to investigate it tonight. She just needs a bit of TLC at the moment
  13. I have, when mine dropped one on the mini at 90mph it did very similar damage in around 1 second! it's actually pretty scary when you think about it, at 7000rpm, the pistons are moving up and down the bore 116 times EVERY second, so if it went at full chat, there could be 116 chances for the valve head to mash the shit out of the head and piston, even if you turned it off after a second! That's mental
  14. Oh dear Dave. I think that's broken mate ! In Prawn related news, turbo cars are wank, and I should have bought an E36 M3 Oh well, in too deep now. i'll struggle on!
  15. I think he's a hero. haha
  16. that golf is pretty beautiful though! decent price too compared to what they can go for
  17. they did the Wing and the bumper, which was on my car, total cost was £200 and they were down in Lipson I think, forget the place. I don't remember it being a bad finish at all though, Pierre never had bad paintwork on his cars, and the bumper was well painted. Stop focusing on what you're getting next too, try and focus on making what you've got less gay
  18. it's not QUITE as bad you make out, but it is a shed! The Drivers wing was not sprayed with a rattle can, it was done by a body shop in Plymouth, and it's not overdue a cambelt at all, Pierre bought the car on 130k, and had a cambelt and waterpump dont at Phil Davis in Stonehouse some time after he bought it, so that belt has done 40k tops, nowhere near replacement. Aside from those minor points, you're right, it's a shed! Also, his ad is wank. You know what winds me up the most about this car? in the world, ever? Every f**king for sale advert has said it's got an H&R front ARB, when it doesn't!!!!!! it's eibach. I told plunky this, I told you this, I told Matt the last owner this on ed38, yet still every thundercunt lists it as H&R.
  19. My word the A3 used to look so perfect as my dailly drive..... It's a whole different beast now, very different indeed! haha. That'd be awesome Robin and JardOs. I just want it looking nice again so I can be proud of it!
  20. Alex, don't you dare stop! Your M3 pics are about the only reason I come back to this thread, and to bore you all with crap about my front wheel drive hatch back
  21. main reason for my snap off wheel was the new seats. With conventional seats getting in and out wasn't a problem, but with the big seats with head restraint it's damn near impossible!
  22. Jardo's snap off boss was an ebay job, about £35, mine came from Apex and is branded K-sport and cost £60, but if I'm honest, I really do believe these are the same product having looked at both. The one jardo had at christmas time was very high quality indeed. very happy with mine too, positive lock on it, and no play at all.
  23. haha, if this one is a fake I'll eat my hat, it came from Demon tweeks, in a genuine OMP box, with an OMP warranty card, and cost half as much as your car! if it's a fake heads will roll! I'll admit, the dished wheels look better, but it's function over form for me from now on....
  24. Thanks man, it was one of those things I'd either fix quikcly, or it'd sit on my drive for another year and I'd lose motivation and give up on it. Giving up wasn't really an option, so I had to get it fixed up asap to complete what's left of the trackday season, then I'll address the smashed up quarter over the winter I think. Feels bloody lovely to drive now with the new wheel and seats all sorted. Position is perfect, and the new wheel feels very small, but supremely comfy.
  25. Sounds good mate, there surely can't be much more to come from the K20 can there? and I'm sure you'd love having some torque when you get a blower todays update! My new steering wheel arrived yesterday, So I came home today after my shift and got on with things. Old bent fake OMP wheel: Quick measure up to get a reference for how the flat wheel alters position: Old wheel off: And the shiney new OMP Targa 330: At £140 for a wheel, you'd expect to get some bloody bolts with it woudln't you? But no, so a trip to the bolt shop was needed. Horn wired up, and fixed part of the removable boss bolted up to stay: Removable section clipped into place: And new wheel on: Finished: Feels perfect with the seats in the new location now, I hadn't realised but my old wheel was actually 350mm, despite being sold as 330! For some bizzare reason I never actualy measured it up. Glad I didn't go for a 300mm wheel, the 330 is nice, but smaller would be bad news I think! WIth that done, I refitted my 32mm neuspeed rear ARB, setting it to medium this time, was on full hard when I crashed No pics as it was under the car and dirty - couldn't be bothered. With plenty of time left, the ******* blue bumper was staring at me, and I couldn't take it any longer, so off it came! Gave it a quick rub down: Then a few coats of satin black, just to stop it standing out quite so much Then I took it for a test drive and it broke down Suspected intermittent crank sensor issue I think, although I've left my VAGCOM lead at work, much to my disgust after a 20 minute walk home to get it! Got a lift back to the car, and it started again just fine, turned it off, and it wouldn't restart for a further 10 minutes. I have a dodgy plug on my crank sensor anyway, and it's the original 215k unit, so I'll swap that out before I next use the car. On a side note, I was thoroughly pleased to find this Picture on Frenchmans new website / FB page for his photography business: Pierre Mellows | Facebook
