The Trials Forum Road Trip Meet **With Attendance Poll Added!**
Prawny Baby replied to MadManMike's topic in Chit Chat
Wooooooo, I'm in. sounds like fun. Oxfordish sounds good to me, camping / beer / cars / family static caravans, all sounds like a go-er! Be nice to meet up with a group of different cars and people, you tend to get into a rut of same old same old with the car scene, so always nice to mix it up a little -
No, but it was pretty lame running out of talent and crashing it in the first place
-
Dickhead. You won't come along anyway, you'll make some lame excuse and bottle it.

Epic wheelspin Looks rapid enough dude.

agreed! Or in my case, company car, one fun car for going as fast as possible, and one to enjoy that's not as fast. Suits me well, but finding the time to keep up with 2 toys is tough still.

Same for me with the E36 M3, 10 years of dreaming about them from when I first saw the M3 Evo at Goodwood in 1997, and in 2007 I bought one. It was good, very good, but the increased enjoyment from owning it compared to the A3 didn't balance with the increased cost of owning it, so I sold it on and went back to what I know.
-
I think that was my main issue with them. I drove one, and it was nice, very fun, and buzzing to nearly 9k was pretty awesome, but after 10 years + of hype about it being 'the greatest FWD car of all time' I think I just expected a little more. It was good, but ruined for my by the hype and the build up. A bit like the E36 M3 to be honest, never meet your heros and all that.... Much like Jolfa, I accept that ultimately, no matter how much I do, my audi is 'just an old golf' really, so when cars like DC2's, Clio 182's, and E36 M3's get hyped up SO much, and I get a chance to drive one, I'm always expecting to be utterly blown away by simply how much better it is, and the reality isn't quite there. Good cars without question, but after all the hype you'd expect it to be a life changing moment, when really it's just a bit of a giggle. That, and I enjoy that my car handles well because of things that I've done, and I've seen it's evolution along the way, rather than just having it all from day 1, which it most certainly did not! you have. Not sure why though....

Unlike our dear friend Jardo, who's all talk
-
he's probably changed his mind after your phone call yesterday. Your words not mine here, you said he was 'not some young guy who just wants to modify it and thrash it, but an older bloke who's really looked after it and really respects it' So he's probably realised that you're the former of the two, and decided he'd rather not let his beloved and cherished appreciating classic go in exchange for a boy racer wagon xxx
-
Yet the E30 you want only has 169lbft. Best pass on that one then..... That's OK then Tips. Apologies for coming across a little abrupt, yesterday was a bad day. Today is not likely to be any better, but at least I realise this Jardo: Maths: You're doing it wrong.

aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah. got it

I don't understand the comment. Is this a fat joke? or a strange form of compliment on my recent weight loss? Either way, I'm confused

very, very cool Landy. Someone bumped my build thread over on turbominis last night, after 2 years of me not even looking at it. Getting the urge to get Mini sorted and back on the road very shortly, it's been too long!

Oh good lord, another thread like this

An oem Ecu running narrowband won't have any capability for wideband no

^^^ this Cheers for the info, will go scope out a few places tonight

I'm afraid not! I've been working here monday-friday since October, and due to be finishing next week! Are there any other places i should check out to ride here? I've literally been from sandown castle to the royal hotel so far, and that's it!
-
perhaps, lack of understanding completely, but that is exactly what makes it totally unsuitable for the mass market. I'm fairly sure if you gave Mr. Average my A3 to thrash around for a day they would manage to break it, not because it's shit (oi! i know what you're thinking) but because it's quirky and in some ways highly strung, I guess the same applies to the rotary That, and all the RX8's I've seen with an aftermarket exhaust have sounded horrid! Yet oddly FD 7's seem to sound quite nice.

Cheers guys. Adam: you're right about the timing for sure, I don't feel as strong now as I was when I used to ride regularly, so can't manage big gaps like I used to, but timing for taps and things seems SO much easier with try-all forks on the bike now, it just feels more natural, where I've always struggled badly before with the Zoo forks on the koxx frame. Can definitely feel myself improving each evening when I'm going out, just remembering things as I go along, I had a little stint of riding back at the end of 2011 with mowgli where I rode 4-5 times in 2 weeks, and felt myself getting better and better as the rides went on, then I parked it up and got back to something car related and got fat all over again
-
Looks wise they do very little for me sadly, close, but just not quite right somehow. the rotary engine is clearly fantastic in many ways, but I just don't think it's quite right, or ready for use on a mass production road car yet. Regardless of the ''if it's looked after properly'' comments, they still have about the highest failure rate of any car I know, looking after things properly applies just as equally to piston engines we all, and you don't hear of nearly so many failures across the board of all makes as you do compared to mazda rotarys
-
^^^ the above is pretty true from what I can gather. It also sums up that it was a pretty stupid move to put such an engine into a road car. Fantastic engine for it's design purpose, but utterly useless in a road car. uneconomical, unreliable, and for the economy figures and the amount of bloody noise it makes, not that powerful.

Probably about 3 years since I've ridden regularly, went out about 4-5 times last year, and probably about 5-6 times in total the year before that. Last rode at the Xmas eve ride in December, and before that was July I think
