  1. Thanks for bringing the wheels and stuff over mate, saved me 30 minutes that I really didn't have to spare! top man. I shall repay you by fitting your lovely top mounts when I'm back from Spa And just for Dr. Marshall, another pic of an A3, with an added smart phone edit just to upset Robin
  2. MOVE B*TCH! Get out the way!
  3. Finally finished this evening and back on all 4. New boots fitted for good measure!
  4. Practical estate van You going to get a mapped ECU to remove the 'M50 flat spot'?
  5. hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, I'm not sure if that's a good topic or not dude. It'll be largely dependant on how boost is controlled, but potentially, a small leak would probably not effect mpg or power at all. if the system were looking for a target MAP value, it'll more than likely adjust solenoid duty to compensate for a small pressure loss, and as only air is lost pre engine, depending on how fuelling is controlled fuelling might be removed for the lost metered air. Net result, no loss in power or MPG, but the turbo is worked 'x' amount harder, this potentially shortening it's life, but that's a whole new kettle of fish! Worth thinking about anyway. In other news, did anyone else see this ignorant gem?
  6. Looking good Alex! well done mate! I'll be running those exact same yoko medium compound slicks at Spa in a weeks time
  7. awesome awesome epic news! I've always been told that the gearbox will make or break the car for the driver. I've always suffered from gearbox problems, and a shit feeling gearbox to, so it made me sad to see your 'floppy stick' and know that it's detracting from an otherwise incredible car. I reckon fixing that will make it so much nicer to drive In other news, I've also had a gearbox change recently Finished off a 6 speed conversion this week in the A3, and I'm over the moon with it! I now have a box that changes positively, and slots really sweetly into gears, changes FAR faster than my old 5 speed box ever could, and should be considerably stronger too. new 6 speed also has an LSD again, this time a peloquin ATB, but this one feels considerably tighter than my old well used quaife. makes such a difference to the driving experience having a nice box, the shorter ratios are really suiting my car, and progress to 100mph now is frighteningly fast Good luck in the comp tomorrow Alex, looking forward to the vids!
  8. Odd random fact: When i came home last night, Jardo was waiting for me to go to Bracknell, As I approached his car, I could actually SMELL the cleaning products on it from 10 yards away, it's THAT covered in products. it is very clean though, and does look great on the road, even if ti can't get away from the French Diesel Coupe down Hampshires back roads!
  9. That's not true, it only makes over 300lbft from 3500-6000rpm
  10. This can never happen, because I think we both know you'd be considerably faster than I am in my own car, and thus any credibility I may have would be lost forever
  11. Dear Dr. Marshal, I apologise in advance for an upset the following post may cause So, BTCC from Rockingham yesterday. I had a lie in and watched Race 1, then got inspired, and decided to go and play pretend touring cars myself. Before: Testing fitting the BTCC Super2000 slicks in preperation for Spa: I have to say, I really rather like this look: And time to swap back I look forward to seeing how these work
  12. Made my day that did! Clearly, it wasn't Freddy driving the car at the time, but it was the guy who'd been driving it all day as part of the Forge Demo crew, so he couldn't have been THAT bad? http://www.bridgetogantry.com/2/index.php/home/nurburgring-laptimes/523-new-fastest-impreza-at-the-nuerburgring
  13. the epic amounts of traffic, and frankly terrifying bumps make it a bit more interesting, but otherwise..... One thing I've found - the faster the car gets the more the rolling undulations become almighty car-unsettling mega bumps.
  14. I've just listened to the start of that clip Robin Emily and I talking about Boost, and NOS, haha, so funny. I was trying to explain it all in simple terms
  15. Woohooooooooo. Thanks Robin. Hooray for traffic jams! Typical Combe really, over 60 cars on track at once in some sessions. i think in the whole day one single car indicated to signal they were ready to be passed, and not a single car backed off the throttle to allow a safe overtake. You had a choice of sit behind someone slow and waste your money in a short 15 minute session, or initiate warp drive and force your way past, putting yourself off line for the next bend and hugely compromising your line / corner speed. Not my favourite organisation, driving standards of others are so poor you end up driving like a bit of a cock yourself as if you didn't, you'd just trundle around. I think the second session Robin got in film was far better, chasing down the Revolution Motorstore Imprezza, that was fun!
  16. I'm with Rich on this one. economy is for old people if my very easy, you mean removing the entire engine and swapping the TWO turbos and all associated parts, then yea, they're easy On stock turbo's, low-mid 300's. they pull very well, but it's a heavy car.
  17. it's very often the case in top level motorsport that the majority are there due to finances rather than Talent Alex, In the british touring car championship, I think only 1-2 of the ~20 car field are paid drivers, the rest all pay for their drives, roughly £250k per year. The talented ones often seem to be sons of team owners, driving for family teams (Matt Neal, Andy Jordan etc), with second team drivers being a paid entry. As a result, the mix of talent can be pretty wide spread, if you look at some of the in car footage from the back markers in BTCC, some of them really arn't all that!
  18. really does feel properly good now mate. All very nicely connected and puts the power down much better. Brakes are epic too
  19. 378bhp 352lbft. It did good. I R happy.
  20. Shame Dannys such a thunderous fag and broke his lovely big turbo LCR for a crappy imprezza!
  21. You may remember 'Gimpa' the jewish racing gold X-type parked in our road? Very similar thing, shared 'public' parking by means of little bays around the close. Gimpa was there when we moved in 4 years ago, and hasn't been touched or turned a wheel since! Apparently loads of people have complained, and they can't touch it. We even know who's it is, and see him every day! b*****d. it's a state.
  22. 2:04, top let of screen, your dads blue coat, it's Meeeeee!!!!!! Top job adam. was awesome to watch
  23. N75 is just the standard electronic boost control valve the car runs. I have wired mine to a switch, so I can turn the valve off to lower boost and power
  24. Had to pop over to pick up a laptop from a mate this morning, so whilst we were there, it seemed rude not to throw the car on the dyno: 348bhp on the map from the old turbo, peak EGT's very low at 734, no timing pull, miles of scope for more. very impressed with it. Happy with it.
