yup, ive noticed that, my fingers are so used to being raised for my brake, tehy naturally sit like that.... question is, do other people index fingers rest slightly proud of the others? or is it really due to trials?

ello lads i thought id post again, because in light of bigmans previous post, many people are going to see 'evening ride' and not bother taking a look.... so heres the deal we have to go to a uni open day, but in all fairness were going to be finished by 1145, so were basicly riding all day in bristol anyone who fancies cumming out and showing us around (ive been there once 18 months ago....) would be much appreciated! let us know most of you ahve my mobile number.... those who dont, drop a line in here :P cheers lads nick

id like to take this change to point out that my bike remained totally unchanged from the middle of september right through to last week!!!!which is certainly a record for me!!!!! im not denying i will probably go back to the disc sometime soon im just surprised at quite how good the v brake feels after having a gay disc for so long i know the v doesnt compare to the avid when it was working perfectly, but even a great working avid still goes pants if u actually use to slow down going down a hill! which is such a fecking nuisance! do the hope mono trial discs suffer badly from fade like avids?

bitemybutt??? is that the same bitemybutt that i sold an echo to 2 years ago? jon i seem to remember? if it is, where on earth have u been hiding for the last year or more?

hey guys i ask this because my avid has been getting pretty shoddy lately ever sinse iw ent to porthcawl its not worked properly, some goon rode around with no front wheel on my bike while i was away, and the cam inside the calliper just doesnt work like it should, and the pads have seen their fair share of use and arnt really up to much anymore.... so until avid pads come into the country (i dont think u can get them yet) ive put an xtr v brake on the front just a std xtr setup with red fibrax pads, and its actually REALLY good. on a polished reggie rim with a bit of muckoff, the power is imense, and its a much more stable solid feeling brake than the disc ever was.... i know when the rain comes itll be useless. but im getting the first set of heatsink v brake pads this week, so i might decide to run a very light grind on the front and have brakes in all weather! just

yea, i was shocked to find that after just a few days of riding garys profile started to stick and generally went a bit nasty i pulled it apart for him to find random shards of metal inside, i cleaned it out and stuck it all back togethere and it appeared to work perfectly, but now after another 3 weeks he has somehow managed to rip the ratchet out of the hub shell :( i have no idea how though, as he isnt massively powerful and although good isnt what youd describe as an awesome rider.... very strange.... i know profile have such a good rep, but i dont understand what it is that makes the hub so good? am i correct in thinking its 2 pairs of offset pawls on a 24t ratchet? giving it 48 pickups with 2 pawls working at a time? if thats the case then surely its no better than a shimano deisgn using 2 pawls at once :) only the profile is better made and has more engagments?? sorry for the strange post, im not puttin gprofile down, i think theyre great, i jsut dont understand how tehy generally work so well....

i always used to ride xc with my dad back in 96 he bought a kona lava dome, and be bought me a 24'' rideback mountaint series kids bike. he upgraded it with rst 154 forks and acera canti brakes! it was awesome then, when u turned 11, the minis started to beckon me.... and the bikes were all but forgotten. until one day i went round to a mates house, he lived out of town, so i borrowed dads old kona to ride out to his. i got there and he told me about a jump spot nearby, so off we went, toe clips and all! i thought i was awfully good at this jumping thing, and soon i was riding regularly again, and i had rediscovered all the old trails around me, it was awesome! then in august 2000, i went to bike live at newnham park in plymouth. there i saw ashton and hawzie, along with a few other people (including tim stedman strangely enough) riding speed trials on a demo rig. i was hooked, i instantly stated hopping about on the old kona. yet due to my imense lack of knowledge, i thought upgrading the kona was the way forward. so 600quid later it had hope xc's, magura hs33s, a set of z3 100mm forks, and a shiney set of fire xc prosalong with afew other bits. i started sidehopping off things, until one day my dad saw me sidehop off a 3ft wall. he went mad!!!! he said he wouldnt let me ruin the xc frame doing 'stunts' and said he would sooner buy me a proper bike than have me kill his kona frame so.... a call to partridge cycles later revealed an ex-demo saracen x-ess for 250. i got that for my birthday on september, and being a 'jump bike' i started riding trails on it, until december when i remembered bike live.... maguras for christmas, and i guess the story just goes on from there.... 4 years later, and a grand total of 11 frames later (not all snapped-only 6 of those snapped :() here i am currently going bigger than ever and breaking less parts than ever.... result!

probably, the vts is a quick car :) it would now doubt thrash the min on top speed as well! it currently tops out once and for all a 114mph, which is 6200rpm in top gear.... new engine in summer top.... should pull 120-125 then if im lucky, not that ill ever take it that fast, im more into acceleration and handling to be honest!" oh and saxos have FREAKY pedals !!!!
-
despite this thread being almost entirely about minis until page 8, u still dont get it do u joel!!!!! ive driven a vtr, and while by modern standards its a fairly nippy and good handling car. it doenst even come close to comparing with a 1275 mini with a few hundred quid spent under the bonnet.... doesnt even stand a chance-how do i know? ive driven a vtr.... ive raced several vtr's (or at least id assume they were vtr's, wasnt next to them long enough to be sure!!!!!) anyway on a more positive note that vtr is a LOVELY looking first car! top job ben, how much it set u back?
-
or then again, perhaps not.... all the isis tool has thats different is a wider end, which is the same as sticking a 5p in there! i always found my cornish 5p's were fractionally too large and i had to file them down a touch. plus they do tend to bend.... i now use a domed headed bolt, just drop the threads into the bb hole and the head fills the gap perfectly!

cheers lads boovey, the sportspacks copies ive got are from minispares, and cost me 50quid but if im honest mate, DONT BOTHER i really do regret buying these, i had genuine rover ones on before, and the fit was perfect, but these just dont fit right, tehy dont fit tight to the body work, and the finish is awful! you can see where the studs are moulded in on the arch surface, up close the are poo!" they are also WAY more flexible than genuine arches id suggest you try one of the other copies from someone like P&L minis, they ahve a good rep! a fibreglass shell would be awesome! can u get a fibreglass pickup? ive not seen one. just for u matty, heres a pic of the car towards the end of november.... in its prime (or not as the case may have been)
-
hey boovey, when i fitted my 6x12's with a steel front on, i simply got the jig saw out and took 1'' off the arch the whole way round. u cant see it when the arches are on, and the arch cutting takes less than 10 mins to do, if u want to be really proper u can also bend a lip back into it to add strength. really, for the sake of borrowing a jog saw and 20mins work, id go with 6x12's everytime, they are SO smart, and there arnt many deep dish 6x12's around yet, due to the dish they have the look of 13's without the gay handling, which cant be a bad thing! no front bumper because the carbon front has no bumer lip! i could make up some brackets to fit one, but i personally love the look of it like that. theres a fairly good chance the back is going to be de-bumpered as well, because the bumper lip is really shitty, and i cant stop the rust and i dont want it to spread into the panel, so i might just grind it off and smooth it out :D as for insurance.... if ur 17, just passed with pass plus, norwich union will quote u around 500quid on a bog standard 998cc mini. start modifying it and its a whole different story.... :D minis rock!!!!! (just out to ride then im in for a polishing session!)
-
yea danny it is a jack up and adjust job really, but the problem is, as u lower the front the geometry changes a fair bit, which would make it handle a touch on the funny side! on the back u can just wind it up and down all u like, i frequently do (like if im going on a trip with loads of kit and bikes on the roof i wind it up) but due to the tie bars u cant do that at the front unless u have a laser tracking machine! which i obviously dont! its also ALMOST running on the bumpstops up front as it is :ermm: so im not sure how much lower it can go, we will see, maybe ill get an inch, that would be enough! the 1380 will be a HUGE difference to the 1275, loads more power, and even more importantly bags more torque! im building it to a 'sensible' spec for a quick everyday car 1380 offset bored metro turbo block with centre main strap wedged and crossdrilled turbo crank cooper s steel rods kent 286 scatter cam (with lightened and polished steel duplex timing gear) ultralight steel flywheel and backplate (orange diaphram) stage 3 unleaded head 1.5:1 roller tip rockers straight cut 1:1 drop gears driving a rebuild helical box with a X-pin diff and a 3.2:1 final drive. should produce ABOUT 105bhp ish, hoping for at least 90 at the wheels. will go like shit but isnt a silly spec so itll still be driveable on the street! dirtbiker.... ive got clear indicatros, i always used to have them, but some untC smashed one so i had to buy a new set, ive just not bothered to fit them yet :P the rear plate light is a genuine mk1 item (not cheap chrome looking plastic) i got it from minispares-if uw ant to fit one theres a fair bit of filling and smoothing to cover up the huge hole the old light has. and yes it SHOULD have repeaters in the wings, but they would just be annoying to dissconnet every time i take the front off (its a carbon fibre front remember) so i remounted them in the wings....its a personal touch :P the arches are SHITE anyway, when i get round to it im getting new ones and smoothing the tops off Brisa: a sumpguard is actually pretty far up my list of things to get next, as im not keen on taking the bottom off it, especially when i get my new gearbox in (i did once get it air born and scrape the bottoms off the gearbox fins upon landing-scary!) heres a terrible pic of the interior taken on my phone, the seats have sinse been lowered 3'' and moved back 4'', and the steering columb has been dropped just over 2'' so its all a much better position engine bay looks GASH, its the lsat thing on my list, i stuck the 1275 in to give it a bit more go, but ive not sprayed up the engine bay yet, all the subframes are comming off in summer to be powder coated along with every suspension part, its also having new sills and floorpans and a respray underneath. the blue engine is a 1293 i had in for a few days (until it blew up) the red engine is my current one, but ages ago before i flip fronted the car (looks terrible i know)
-
haha thanks guys every single chrome part is brand new, and the paint has been flatted down to its super smooth, but not buffed up to a super shiney finish yet!!! its all so shitty and dirty atm because ive not had time to clean it all up because ive been so busy working to get it through its first MOT under my ownership, which it passed with flying colours on thursday, needing only a wheelbearing, ball joints, and some adjustment of the rear brakes! tyres are shitty because the main road out of my village has been closed for a week and i have to drive up an amazingly muddy back street to escape home for the next few weeks.... the annodised blue pins are also only a temp until i get some stainless ones. when i bought them there was only blue or red available, i thought it was better to contrast than having a mismatched shade of red.... silver comming very soon along with bonnet stripes, pinstripes, and cooper laurels behind the stripes on the rear quarters. could make a bumper fit on the front danny, but i dont really want to :ermm: it would mean drilling more holes on my carbon front for the plate and bumper, and once the holes drilled its there for good really i may decide to bumper it up again, but for now im happy with the cut off street racer type look. after all, come summer time the 1380cc is going in, and then it really will be QUICK (need to lower the front a bit more....)

actually, in that pic they look like the standard rover 'minilight style' rose petal alloys, which are 4.5x12'', unless u have converted to 7.5'' s discs or similar, tehy are DEFINATELY not 10's, and there really would be little point to be honest, unless u REALLY prefered 10's. plus the fact that theyre running on 145 tyres would suggest its the standard rover wheels, because u would have to be BEYOND stupid to convert to 10's and fit 145 tyres.... so lets just agree that theyre 12's :ermm: DONT fit sportspack arches with 5.5x12's, have u got ANY IDEA of how stupid it will be? the wheels will oversail the arches by about 2'', and look terrible! ive got 6x12 deep dish wheels from MWS, which as far as i know have a greater offset than any other 6x12 mini rim, and tehy ONLY just fill the rear sportspacks, it still looks iffy in some pics, although its fine up close and personal. any way.... heres a pic of mine (whole at last) its still not finished, its been resprayed, but its still not been polished up yet, as im waiting a few weeks for the paint to really harden properly before i give it some beans with the buffer! still awaiting the bonnet stripes, and pinstripes down the sides, needs lowering ANOTHER inch at the front, and a 1380cc motor being built up as we speak, to be dropped in in summer.... ps: the mexico is AWESOME, ive got a 72 mk1 1300 Gia im intending to restore one day.... lovely cars

dammit danny it wasnt even half finshed when i sent u that photo!!!!
-
nope, still not a cooper, simply a mayfair with cooper stickers and a metro engine.... agreed about jamies mini.... but you really CANT use a clutchless dog box on the road, it would need a rebuild every few thou!!!! and a webber 45 takes away ALL bottom end torque, but gives a bit more top end, with a webber itll be flat under about 2500/3000rpm. your FAR best off with an HIF44, good for 110bhp, and loads more bottom end than a webber.... cheaper too! cant say its the fastest 1000 with a 1275 either because it cant be faster than mine tehehe is mine a cooper? thats a tough one. it was made by rover as a flame, but before being sold to the public it was sent of to JCG for a cooper conversion, had a cooper head fitted, twin hs2 carbs, and a cooper freeflow exhaust, along with the half leather interior. oh, and it has the cooper id plate and sticker on the rocker cover :P so i guess mine actually IS a cooper, although thats open to debate. considering JCG never MADE any cars, tehy only modified mayfairs that rover sent them.... also, most 1990's coopers havnt been anywhere near JCG anyway, rover just stuck the stickers on and that was that.... sadly coopers wernt made in 88, so the closest age to his is the rsp cooper in late 89, which was actually a carbed model, as were the first of the production ones until late 91/early 92 when they went over to single point injection.... MUHAHAHAHAHAHA i undermine you all with my superior mini knowledge :- pics of mine to follow.... although i warn u, its nice, but amazing by any means....
-
haha, will he f**k!!!! u aint seen my mini yet :S and jamie, this is not personal AT ALL, but will u PLEASE STOP CLAIMING U OWN A MINI COOPER!!!!! BECAUSE U DONT! production of the mk3 cooper/s stopped in 73 if my memory serves me, after that, the next cooper to be made was the rover RSP, which came along in late 89 on a G-plate, and was only available in red, had the same 1275cc carbed engine as the mg metro, and half leather seats. your mini being F reg is probably 88, and it IS NOT A COOPER its a 1000cc mayfair with a white roof and a few stripes! and a stage one kit ALL later coopers were 1275 cc please mate, i know its a LOVELY looking car, i wont deny that at all, but dont try to pass it off for something that its not, because u will always annoy people who know what theyre talking about! ill have to get some pics of my mini up asap.... carbon fibre front end, stage 3 1275, alloy dash, fully adjustable camber/ride height all round, cobra FIA approved seats.... and a lovely 90bhp :P mate, its a lovely car, but lets be honest, its a lookalike, and thers nout wrong with that, but youl never pass an MR2 off as a ferrari.... if u get my drift, tehy may look the same with a bodykit, but it just aint
-
is that so sir???? your sitting next to me right now as i type this, and were about to go out for a ride.... we both know u aint got a chance :) im far fatter than u :- indoor trial sounds cracking..... twill be just like a street kinda comp id imagine, YAY!!!!!!!!! how big is the venue? will ui be able to see all the ridesr in one big hall? that would be really cool
-
fook me, brings back memories!!!! who remembesr the days of trials kings before tf even existed? almost 4 years ago?long before a long vid was ever released, and they used to put up 4-8 second clips of individual moves... those were the days, when we could but dream of riding like them... fact is though, even back then, 4 years ago, they were amazing, and still better than most of us are now.... bastards! how times change....
-
im fairly sure the spokes from a 521 WONT fit, as they are a fair bit shorter i dont know the exact lenghts, but i know that adam told me the ERD of a ronnie is 545, thats all u need to know! get yourself over to www.dtswiss.com and use the spoke calc on there also, noone could help u, because u didnt say how many spokes :S or what lacing (2x,3x,4x) use the spoke calc, its pretty simple
-
top job mate :S id be fecking proud of that
