  1. and another one :turned:" i dont reckon the front looks too bad.... considering its plastic (carbon) and comes off in less than 2 minutes!"
  2. good point jon my dad drives a p-reg audi a4 estate on 128000miles, and my mum drives an r-reg audi a3 on 144000miles. both 1.9tdi's, both bought second hand as ex company cars.... many 306's are used as company cars for people lower down in companies though.... one estate agents in plymouth gives all its younger employees 306 tdi's to drive around in.... because its a cheap yet highly respectable car...
  3. thing is tic, if hes going to go for a deisel the mileage really doesnt matter at all. my dad had an audi 80 estate 1.9tdi that had done over 230k and still ran perfectly, didnt use any oil, and had simply had regular servicing. with deisels 100k is just run in :turned: anything sub 150k is fine generally speaking! especially sinse many desiels are used as motorway cars. i know id rather have a 100k motorway car than a 50k city car any day.... and why stick to a budget? surely that way your more likely to be forced into getting something substandard when for another £100 you could get something really good. sometimes its worth paying that bit extra to get the best....
  4. they could well be dany, just as soon as i find them!!!!! bought them months ago, and have sinse lost them, and i refuse to pay 15quid for a new set!!!!! the pinstripes on the sides are definately going back on along with the cooper laurels, but i dont think the bonnet stripes are going back on, theyre just a lil bit too common now, and i cant help thinking they will detract from the overal look of the car in some ways.... yet in the pic below i think it needs them :turned: decisions !!!!
  5. ooooooooooh what a lovely pair! :turned:
  6. for what ur looking at id go with a 306 EVERY time. tehy are DIRT cheap to insure. a mate of mine wrote off 3 cars in a crash aged 17, costing his insurance company 9k, he then got a 1.8si escort which he insured for 800quid for the rest of that year, when it came to renew and the crash was listed it went up to 2200, so he sold that and got a P-reg (97) 306 1.9D turbo for 1300quid!!!! and its a VERY smart car its a reasonably high model, eith electric windows, sunroof, very nice seats and interior, pug alloys, all in shiney black. despite his crash hes only paying 1300 a year on insurance, which is awesome! hes now just turned 18, driving for exactly a year. sure, its not as quick as ur average 1.8 petrol, but hes done something to the engine (ive been told u can adjust something underneath that increases the boost from 11psi to 19psi) which made a great difference. once it gets going its very nippy, and will happily sit at 100mph all day long, and being deisel its got the torque to pull a house, let alone a lil trials bike! id go with a 306 everytime, m reg onwards can be picked up for sub 1500quid in great condition with average milage (80-100k) and remember being deisel milage really doesnt matter too much ps... tehy handle really well too!
  7. oh what it would be to have a rev limiter!!!! mine just keeps going until it runs out of steam, up hill thats around 6000rpm, downhill it appears to be limitless although ive never dared to pass 6700rpm with my std bottom end for fear of a conrod deciding to end its run of service prematurely....
  8. hey (Y) unfortunately its not being overfueled at all! the carb is the correct one for an mg metro, with the correct needle and its all been set up on a rolling road. what mods have u done to yours matt? when i say minor mods i do have a £400 stage 3 head fitted, and a few other little things. ive had a few fuel leaks in the past, and its had all new lines and such like fitted. tappets are all set at 12thou after i did the head gasket a few months ago, my car is never 'serviced' as such, as i change the oil every 2000miles, and the plugs and leads every 4000 to keep it all running at its best! i guess its more likely going to be to do with the gearbox ratio and having such a low final drive (Y)
  9. hey guys. ive got a mini disc player in my mini now, because the cd player skipped too much because its so bumpy..... ive also jsut got hold of a sony NET md so i can record discs quickly! but i cant for the life of me figure out how to do it! ive installed the driver and open MG jukebox program. ive imported the files i want to record, and clicked checkout, and it seems to work, but it always freezes and stops working before the song is finished :( the most its ever got to is 78% before stopping, and then it just goes dead :P yet on some songs it frezes at just 30odd %, i dont get it!!!!! im sure the player is working fine as its recording most of a song before it stops. even when the program freezes the player is still making noises, although nothing is happening..... if ANYONE could help me, or suggest another program that can be used to record net mds id be VERY grateful cheers nick
  10. mixture was set at the mot test station jsut a few weeks ago it went in reading 17 on the co's :P came out reading 2.3, legal limit is 3.4 i think. it ran SO shit with the mixture set lean it ran horridly!!!! so i turned it back up straight away!
  11. hey guys. bit of a random one, but i was wondering roughly want kinda mpg you lot get from your cars, as mine seems INCREDIBLY expensive to run! last week it did less than 20mpg, and the best ive EVER returned was 26mpg :( but i think that was a bit lucky! its not as if im running a massively powerful motor, its just a very midly tuned 1300. the crazy thing is, it seems to hardly change with my driving style. i can have a week of driving very fast and return around 22mpg, or a week of driving SUPER slow and conservatively and it still only returns 24mpg :D which makes me think driving slowly just isnt worth it! all this fuel is making the car VERY expensive to run, and im going to have to start leaving it at home and riding into college more often :S so what sorta mpg do u get from what size engines? cheers prawny
  12. yea, i did consider it for a while, and i still may build up a shorter bike in the near future, but im getting on so well with the bt again ive got no intention of chaning altogether. although when ive got a bit of spare cash i do want to build up a more streety bike, just so i can add some variation to my riding really and not let it get stale again!
  13. lads.... i think the attitude towards this thread would be somewhat different if you all realised that spider lives in israel!!!! im fairly sure getting hold of trials parts in israel will be as hard as it is for him to find mini parts..... so getting a genuine echo mini seat is pretty cool if u ask me! miserable bastards top bike spider, looks old school but nice i like it
  14. i can understand that but seeing as i was making custom stickers, i just didnt think BT would take up enough space on the downtube, and i could NEVER have a frame with no stickers, i think it looks awful! just plain and dull
  15. ive not measured one of my gaps for a long while, other than to say when i was riding lots 2 years ago, i made a measured 7ft 11 on the level, which i have on video, that was on my zebdi. back in october, at possibly my worst riding time ever we had a small gap comp at bigmans, sadly i dropped out after about 7ft 4, so that was terrible. now im back up there at in the high 7's, but i reckon if the need arose, i could probably break the 8ft barrier now, with a bit of a grunt, who knows ill have to get some new pallets and set up some gaps again! christ, i remember getting a snake bite on a 3ft static back on my saracen.... those were the days
  16. haha cheers porter u nutter! the frame was looking pretty nice until saturday. sinse then its been a bit battered i must say, starting off with that dent from the messed up rail gap (N) twas a nice gap though, classic to watch as the rail/gate opened as matt landed on it! sadly sinse saturday ive taken on a whole new attitude towards riding. ive started going mad and trying everything, and its really paying off. my riding has improved SO much in the last 3 days literally, although perhaps its not my riding thats better, but my attitude towards it, which is finally letting me ride closer to my full potential. a side effect of this new found motivation is that my lovely red bt gets battered!!!! ah well ill ride it for 3 months, then get out the filler again, fill all the dents, and repsray the downtube!
  17. hey stu, bigman and i SUDDENLY realised who you were on the way home, i knew i knew u as ive met u at a hampshire comp last year! ill get a pic of my first, if a little tiny, dent later on :) the v brake pad are awesome, im loving them so far, check out the thread about heat sink v pads in trials chat HERE i swapped the disc for the xtr so that i could test out the v brake pads, and strangely im finding myself really liking the disc. ill be totally honest and say the overall power isnt as much as that of a well set up perfectly working avid, but the main advantage im finding is that i have a much more direct and controlable brake feel, so for the imediate future, im sticking with the v brake! hey andy, i got it, it leaked and was generally crap as you know, so i was forced back to a maggy lever while i sent 'yours' to edd potts for refurbing. even despite edds best (and his best is quite something) efforts its still leaking a tiny bit, so edds next mission is to bore out the cylinder and fit a steel sleave inside it to fix the problem :P glad most people like the big red beasty :P im loving it, because although its not really much different, i can help but feel ive been given a 'new' bike, because its so different to look at. as petty as that sounds, its really helped motivate me to ride!
  18. afternoon lads just thought id post up my new and improved bt over the winter ive been a bit slack, and ive hardly ridden at all. when i did go out on the bike it felt boring and dull, and i really didnt see the point in riding much to be honest. but from the dark came light by way of a sponsorship offer from heatsinkpads.com, which i gladly accepted. i was sent 2 sets of brake pads, including the uks first set of heatsink v brake pads, and a heatsink team rider t shirt! with these lovely new pads to stick on the bike, i wanted to change everything and make it a bit special. as most of you know ive just finished spraying my car, and ive fallen in love with the flame red colour.... no prizes for guessing what happened next! and here are the results, new tyres, drilled out rims, new bash, fully refurbished rb lever and atomlab pedals, and some new braided hose sinse these pics were taken. ive started riding more often again, and after an awesome ride in bristol on saturday in totally inspired to get back to full fitness and really try and push my limits again! ive just got in from what has been literally my best ride of the last year just me, alone in my little village, but i was so motivated it was incredible! im sure youve all read the posts about how great the heatsink v brake pads are... so i wont go into that now. ill just leave you to check out the pictures feel free to comment thanks nick
  19. tehehe good luck to you matey!!!!! i always thought hanging doors was simple by the look of it, until i actually did it! my doors, which came off fitting perfectly, would not go back on right for any money :o i spent a whole day tryig to hang the passenger door, the drives on took 10 mins to get right :- it stood proud of the a-panel and wouldnt open at all, so ive had to use copious amounts of washers behind the hinges to move it back, but of course now the door gap at the back is stupidly small!!!!! its a nightmare! good luck other than that, remember minis tend to fail on so many lil suspension things, im yet to have a mini go through an MOT without needing ball joints! good luck! nick ps, thought id add a lil picture of the mini with the bike loaded up! minis dont have too much rear seat space, so its actually easiest to just stick the roof rack on!
  20. as the first person to try these pads, i can safely say tehy are AWESOME!!!!! i started off on a polished rim, and they really were seriously impressive, i loved them, but i wasnt prepared to have no front brake in the rain, so i foolishly gave my rim a VERY light grind. the brake was quite frankly stupid. if i so much as comtemplated looking at the lever, it locked up solid. so that was a bit much IMO, so i took the grinder to it again, and used the flat of the disc to take the grind away, leaving a smooth but textured surface now this is PERFECT!!!!! it still makes its self known with a squark every so often, but im loving it. the lock up is just incredible! modulation is spot on, and the braking feel is just perfect, so much more direct than any disc brake could ever be.... so so far, im loving them about 10 hours riding natural and street so far and no signs of pad wear at all, and without doubt the best v brake ive ever used.... top stuff :o
  21. yup, it was, im fairly sure the nassa frame surfaced around 2 years before the ashton, and ashton was infact accused of copying it i seem to remember....
  22. u better make sure u are em!!!! why do i give lovely hugs? because im big  u want a serious hug, you should go to bigman, hes the only person who makes me feel small :):D:D hope to see you there ;)
  23. when the mini breaks down, which isnt too often, but its happened a few times, i borrow my mums car.... it may not be massively quick, its a 1.9tdi sport 110bhp, full leather, air con, electric everything, soon to be chipped to 150bhp. but bugger me does it handle perfectly with the 225/45/17s on it!
  24. when the mini breaks down, which isnt too often, but its happened a few times, i borrow my mums car.... it may not be massively quick, its a 1.9tdi sport 110bhp, full leather, air con, electric everything, soon to be chipped to 150bhp. but bugger me does it handle perfectly with the 225/45/17s on it!
  25. ive had one or two proper rides with the v brake now, and although its not as powerful as the avid was when it was working properly, the braking feel is somehow MUCH more direct and posotive, with the disc thers less feel and more flex from the forks, but the v brake somehow seems to be more direct, and generally feel nicer! im hoping that with a VERY light grind, and heatsink v brake pads (the first set of which are on their was to me as we speak for testing!) i should have an imensely power ful, direct feeling, all weather brake!!!! sorted  ill wait tilli try the heatsink pads on both a ground and polished rim, then ill pass my judgement on v brakes (Y) but if the improvement with heatsinks is similar to the improvement of a magura with black pads compared to batch B's.... u see what im saying. should be awesome!
