righty ho then :ermm: ill be doing that next week :):D:D would u reccomend putting nitro on the rear end as well to remove the laquer to get a totally even finish? and should i relaquer the whole lot after stripping it all? sorry to ask so many Q's and move awy from the topic... but ive enver really polished a frame before! so in knew to this :(
-
that tells you that they are fecking awesome frames!!!! i understand tehy are like that pre painting tarty, but what im asking, is how do you get the paint off without damaging that gorgeous shiney finish? as surely if u put nitromors on then set to it with a wire brush youd kill it!!!! is that ball burnished finish not laquered or coated at all? could you just use loads of nitromors and scrub it off very hard with a soft cloth?

jesus christ on a bicycle :ermm::):S thats SO smart!!!! ill be totally honest, im not 100% keen on the rex paint job, and im getting mine tomorow!!!! i do however love the silver look, and i want to be stripping mine asap! what did u use to get the nitro off once it had eaten the paint away?surely if u sanded/brushed it off you wouldnt get the lovely shiney finish??? did it take much polishing up to get the finish that good? i definately want to do that to mine asap! ive been thinking of it, but wasnt sure how easy it would be, and we all know the end result when a home stripping attempt isnt done properly.... manky greyish frames which look nasty! looks awesome!!!!

ronnie are solid, and dont u ever doubt that.... 4 grinds? could be f**k all if u grind light, then again, if u grind hard, 4 grinds is enough to take away more than half the sidewalls!!!! ronnies are solid as hell, check out the ronnie thread in sites/pics/vids. ive been running my ronnie for 6 months now, and depsite several large dents its not flat spotted at all, and its a fecking tough rim!!!! and 20psi is NOT a hard presure, 40psi+ is hard, 20 is soft as fook for any serious riding.... you try doing anything large with 20psi and you WILL be rimming out the whole time.... no doubt the reason you ahve kiled the ronnie !!!! ronnies may weight a bit as tehy come from SC, but stick 1'' holes in them and they are a VERY respectable weight, with seemingly no loss of strength! ive been running ronnie/reggie rims for about 6 months now, and i love them. tehy didnt fall out of true at all for the first 4 months, so i decided to drill the holes bigger, ive not got 7/8ths holes in the front and 1'' in the rear, which is about as large as you can safely go i hve now a very stiff strong, and relatively light wheelset ronnies all the way :ermm: best rim to emerge sinse the 521 IMO

hey matt, i can see where your are comming from with wanting to give the other guys in blue route a chance.... but we cant all be winners can we? personaly, the class you ride is totally down to you, but i dont think you should have a yellow route at all to be totally honest last years comps were great, but who were we riding again in red route? apart from the last comp, there was pretty much just me and steve in red route, and to be fair, if you go adding another class above red route, itll only contain me and steve, and possibly tim wills, which takes out the fun of it IMO! i reckon that at this club level you should keep it to 3 classes, white, blue and red. red and blue should both be slightly harder than last year, as some things last year were a touch on the easy side at the first comps.... the last comp however, was perfect!!!! seriously though.... the last comp where you didnt have yellow route, and there ended up being 6-7 people riding red turned out to be FAR more fun than the others.... its your choice mate, but in these things there will always be very few winners. i vote (and im sure most people will agree) that you keep it 3 classes, that way the very few people who rode yellow last year will ride red route, and the better people from blue last year can ride red route.... making it a more even spread across the classes.

looking awesome bigman!!!! it appears we are all heading over the the rex way of life.... with any luck mine wil be arriving on friday :o:):) it does look awesome matey, and without having compared it to my bt, from the way i was able to jump on it the morning after the bikeshow and ride it like my own.... i think its something a bit special!!!! t-rex's rock!!!! and daves pic from last summer is what made me want to get one in the first place :D such an AWESOME frame. sam: bigmans raven didnt have a bb rise at all, it was a stone age raven 4.0

for crying out loud!!!!!! the spokes snapped because it was a BAD BUILD NOT A BAD RIM THE SPOKES SNAPPED BECAUSE THE BIKE WAS DROPPED VERY HARSHLY ON ITS SIDE IN A MANNER THAT WOULD UNDOUBTEDLY SNAP SPOKES ON ANY WHEELBUILD!!!! the rim WAS NOT AT ALL fixable, im not just saying this, ive built many wheels, and used many more, and i know when i rim can be used again and when it cant.... on this occasion THE RIM WAS SCRAP!!!!! so, we decided to see just how much abuse it would take before it finally gave up properly, and we were all pleasently surprised to find it was insanely strong, taking FAR FAR FAR more abuse than any of us expected! now if anyone else thinks its a waste of a rim, or we have no respect for our bikes, kindly FU<K OFF- we arnt listening (id also like to point out that none of the above is aimed at michael hardman, jsut generally at all those who havnt read the thread or understood it (N) glad we got that sorted
-
tarty boy! we aint saying its not tough, were saying its strong as hell!!!! to be fair we know it was abused totally, but the rim was never going to be built back into a good true wheel, as it really was a bit buggered before this happened! and seeing as we can just build matt a new wheel free of charge it was a bit of a laugh (Y) the point of the thread was to say just how sodding strong the damned thing was!!!! not that its weak i love my ronnie, its awesome! although ive dented it a fair bit, it refuses to flat spot, and dents can jsut be tapped out, unlike bmfs and suvh like which flat at the first sign of a dent! top rim (N)

the rail by the watersidey place in bristol (no idea what its called) is tarred up to FOOK!!!!! we tarred a green rail in porthcawl back in summer! i gapped to it and twice slipped out sideways (was at a slight angle) yet when it was tarred up it seemed fine.... although you coudl hear the tyre sticking to it as u hopped!!!!
-
lads.... lads.... please.... the rim was never going to be fixed, it was the best part of f**ked before we even left the house today, with flatspots and dents all round! it was a shoddy build with VERY cheap spokes and nasty nipples, i did my best on it, but it was beyond help really long before we did this. deadwards, being gay, dropped his bike at a harsh angle and 3spokes just went, and because the other side had been so tight the rim just fell totally out of shape even when we loosened ALL the spokes in the area the rim was still twisted off true by around 4'', with a pretty monster egg from the sudden loss of tension.... so, we tightened and fiddled and jumped on it till it would go round.... then i took it off a 7ft drop :)(Y) it died in the end :( and matt aint made of money by any means, but we have a good bunch of mates, and i can build wheels, hes been offered a brand new hog rim and a 521 free of charge, and we all have hundreds of different length spare spokes, so its not actually going to cost him a single penny at all! and he will end up with a better wheel than he started with!!!! so stop being fussy bastards and moaning, because it was a FERKING GOOD LAUGH!!!!!
-
why is that that in those pics its almost impossible to see that you are infact a real life midget??? u look almost normal height in that pic :( when we all know that really you are 4ft2''!!!! nice bike though :S
-
evening lads.... let this be a lesson to all.... when the bearings in your chris king hub die in august, dont wait until april to get em fixed!!!! as the price will then include a new axle! my needle bearings finally gave up in august, so i took them all out, binned the cracked/snapped ones, and put the remaining ones back in alternately, so it was running on exactly half the correct number of needles!!!! its run fine like this for months, until this week! i thought my frame had cracked causing inemse flex leading to an unrideable brake!!!! turns out the axle has snapped in the middle of the freehub body! obviously due ot running it on fecked bearings.... BUM!!!! tartdrige: you can expect a phone call (Y) everyone else: bodges dont always work :) dont take chances with a £300 hub!!!!

can i ask why you are after a set of S discs? if ur going to run 10's then fair enough it makes sense.... but for the money S discs are going for now, you'd almost be better saving up another 100-200squid and getting a set of alloy 4 pots and 7.9/7.5'' discs, vented or solid.... just a thought also, if ur oging to run 12's, then the S discs offer NO more stopping power than a good set of std 8.4's with decent pads, and 8.4's, unlike s discs, can be picked up for basicly free at most scrappies!!!! or if ur going to run 12's, why not scan the yards for a set of metro 4 pots.... always a tasty option just a thought (Y):):) 1275's are LOVELY compared to the 998, its so much more torquey, and cruising capability is much improved.... although i must remind u, that if you 998 is a newish one (86ish onwards) it will hve a 2.95 fd most likely, and if u get a metro 1275, it will ahve a 3.44 and be MUCH more revvy at high speeds.... just something else to think about.... ill be getting a 1420 soon :D

haha the bt crew indeed!!!!! 5 of us riding good old bt's!!!! theres a reason though (Y) 'THEEEEYYYY'RE gRRRRREAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!' (tony the tiger stylee)

yea man, for the first week or so, i did!!!! and i still stand by my comment that front v brakes are awesome.... when tehy work.... the problem i found was, because we want so much more from a front brake than a rear (rear just has to lock and hold-front we want to lock, hold, modulate, be silent....) when the v brake worked it was insane, ask anyone who was on the bristol ride i was at in feb, it was mental.... but as soon as something changed.... it jsut didnt perform anymore with a grind it was too harsh, with the grind smoothed off it was mental, yet as the smoothed grind wore more it went poo again, on a polished rim it was mental, but ride through a patch of damp grass and it died totally.... all these things just make a front v brake too inconsistent to use during the winter months IMO.... come summer time i may well stick the v brake back on, but with the weather as it is now, i just feel a disc is always going to win sadly, even if the feel isnt as direct as a v brake, its ultimately more powerful, and will be more consistent
-
having ridden bigmans i can safely say i prefer it to any other front brake ive used! and i really do mean that while ill admit that its no more powerful than a well setup on form avid disc, and has a little less modulation than a 180 mono mini. there was something about the way it engaged with the rotor that jsut felt VERY positive. it had masses of power, and i woudlnt expect it to ever let you down on a front wheel gap, yet at the same time, it was very controlable, with a nice forgiving lever feel, without being sloppy. unlike the avid, it didnt suffer from fade going downhill at all, and performed flawlessly directly after a downhill stint, just as it did from cold. all in all i was VERY impressed with it, and ill be buying one as soon as i can afford it! top brake, they seem to have got it right with this one
-
cant wait for the vid biggus!!!! im going to ahve to save up and sort my steed out once and for all!!!! looks like im going to be purchasing a hope mono trial and a set of koxx bloxx asap, then ill be away!
-
haha shut up ginger :P im loosing weight as we speak :D tehehe on a more serious note, my frame is twisted, and as a result its impossible to setup the brake with anything other than brand new pads, so i have a brake that dragged so badly, and the slaves rubbed the rim all day (Y):D:S ive got some serious frame flex issues it would appear :P:S:S
-
oooooooooooooh top pics peggs, shame there arnt more of that guy on the red BT, he looks pretty sexy (Y) :D :P haha top ride really, just a shame my bike hardly worked at al for most of it (Y):D:S ah well, large cash injection comming soon!

personally matt..... comming from someone whos currently in a 3 year relationship.... id just stay as friends.... the problem is, no matter how right you are for each other, and how amazingly well you get on, the social differences between a 15yr old and an 18yr old are HUGE. think about it...... 15-18 is the main time when you are developing your own personal identity, you are becomming YOU, developing tastes, styles, and generally changing in a pretty major way.... the way i see it, you are now set in your ways.... you are 18, you know what u like, what you want to do.... she is just entering this sort of time.... so in 3 years time shes likely to be quite different. # now the main question is, considering you realise this, and you realise the difference in maturity between you (lets face it, she was 11 when you were 14!!!! you have been around a lot more, probably done a lot more!) are you going to be able to get on with her as her tastes and stuff change? basicly..... the way i see it, she will either change to like your kinda stuff, and do your kinda things.... or you will grow apart, and it wont work.. which one it will be you cant control, buts its something to consider. i PERSONALLY thing our true personalities are formed in the last years of school/college, as this is the time when you start taking on responsibilities and understanding the way the world works.... just bare those things in mind at the end of the day, if it feels right, then it may well be, if your having second thoughts, dont dismiss them, think about them, and evaluate them and dont let her get in the way of organising our comps :o EDIT: 10 replies sinse i started typing this!!!!! what a said still stands though....
-
just to keep it up to date.... rear seats have now gone, to make way for a roll cage (6 point but ive not yet fitted the front) and 4 point harnesses, and a fire Ex just incase!!!! 1380cc motor with straight cut box on its way VERY soon with any luck :P:):P get a 306 tic!!!! my mate james borrowed a 1.6 LX for a few days last week and it was awesome, such a great all round car, quick enough, respectable, comfortable, awesome!
-
nice one adam.... thers only so much hammering a crank can take for example, in thoery, your left crank gets exactly twice as muhc stress as tics, with u being roughly twice his weight!!!! this giving it half the life!!!! muhahahahahaha bad luck matey at least now u can get some proper 170s instead of 175s (Y)
-
personally, i would ahve phrased that: ''where did that car come from, it will be awesome to ride'' because its certainly not an awesome car :( especially not after bigmans has jumped all over it!

cheeky sodd.... :turned:
