  1. id imagine hes refering to cheap dvd cameras.... when a product has 'not ususally in this price range' features, it generally means the rest of its features, are generally sub standard, to save money to be able to include said impressive feature.....
  2. WEHEY!!!!!!!!!!! im going to portsmouth as well :) ill be doing construction engineering :( ive got no idea about bikes, but i know ill be taking mine! thats for sure. ive heard there are quite a few riders in portsmouth, and speaking to a few people in abingdon last week i was told there is a little group of riders currently at the uni who ride together lots! should be awesome :)
  3. Super charged :( ive also heard about the polo G40, but its as rare as rocking-horse shit! 1.3, super charged, and apprently stupidly quick! if it is the same charger as the new Bini cooper S, its an eaton M45. ebay is full of them! from that list id definately go with the polo, my gran had a 1.3 yonks ago, head room was AWFUL with a sunroof, but it handled well, was nippy, good interior layout, and its german-built like a tank!
  4. never before have i been quite so scared.... the thought of you at a party.... we all know what your like dave (N) on another note (Y) peggs is the ultimate ET, but i really dont see steve as a penguine! you lads seem to have cameras EVERYWHERE!!!!! whats with all the pics? you seem to snap everything :D mind you, having said that, i got a 1gb memory stick today.... so now i can take 1500 pics on 1.2Mpixels! or 800 on 3.2!!!!! so i guess its cool to take pics of everything :)
  5. hahahahahahahaha the only thing ive seen this year more sketchy than that maxxis on the edge.... is steves shorts!!!! whats going on man? sort your life out :) tehehe on a more serious note, LOVELY looking pics lads, top job (N) ive seen that bridge up (Y) its huge, and the drop is 15ft plus if u get it wrong :D
  6. wehey! cheers for uploading bigman :- thanks for all the replies lads, its the first vid ive made in a while that im happy with! it is, as tart would describe, almost totally 'street on rocks' but right now, thats what we enjoy riding most, you get all the exciting big moves of street, but with the added enjoyment of being out in the countryside, and having the little oddities of natural to overcome, like dodgy runups, sloped rocks, and differing grip! dartmoor rocks! (no punn intended) and you shouldnt love my chain james :) it snapped 10mins into the ride! the plymouth stuff at the end wasnt amazing, but it wasnt too shabby, and i didnt have enough to make a full vid, so just stuck it on the end! cheers again lads, keep the comments comming!
  7. this is tough one.... i ran one for about 6 months, but im not sure if i liked it or not.... when i first got it, i loved it, and while i was running it, i never saw any fault in it..... but, ive sinse gone back to 20/17, with a machined down bash, and realised just how nasty the Ti bash was! before getting the ti bash id never snapped a kmc kool chain, with the ti bash i snapped 4 in 6 months, each time replacing it with a brand new one! also, as mike says, they do seem very sensitive to chainline. mine was forever messing up and not running smoothly.... the last problem i found, was although rare, on the times i did hit my bashring, unless it was on anything perfetly solid and square, the chain would also take a bashing, which resulted in me getting FAR too many stiff links for my liking. i was forever getting stiff links out...... so sadly, while it weighs sodd all, looks awesome, and is pretty cool. i didnt rate it too highly.... sinse going back to 20/17 with the smallest bash that'll cover a 20t, ive not had a single drivetrain problem! plus the larger the front ring the better the variation in gears. i personally found 16/13 WAY too hard, and 16/15 FAR too easy.... only 16/14was really rideable for me, if a little on the spinny side. yet with a 20t, i can happily run 20/18, 20/17, or 20/16 depending on my mood/energy/riding style at the time.... really save the cash. get a 20t middleburn setup, and send your bash to edd potts to have it machined down! also..... forget short term 6 months.... what happens in a year when that little 16t ti chainring wears out?
  8. bigman and i have JUST got home! twas a savage journey, with the good old ford deciding to do its best to overheat, resulting in a 4hour journey with the heater on full, and some rather toasty feet!!!! couple that with every possible form of traffic slwoing this morning, crashed lorry, crashed caravan, road works, m4 contraflow!!!! and u have almost 500miles of very slow driving :) ah well. travelling aside, it was an AWESOME day! twas mental to see everyone again, and its good to see the rain didnt stop us riding for long! twas great to see Sue, Charlie, and Em again, thanks for everything you guys did to organise the event!! and be happy Em :) everyone here loves u!
  9. the nearest place on a map is hound tor, which is about 300yards from there, that was in a private field, after we got kicked off the open moor for riding our bikes!!!! nearest place that will make sense to you is probably exeter, its about 30mins from there!
  10. fatmike was going to the lower bit :P and he never made it, but fair play to the lad for having a go (Y) when did he get good :- he seriously surprised us all! im making the vid as we speak :P should be up tomorow with any luck!
  11. evening lads, just wanted to post up a few pics of what im sure tarty will describe as street on rocks :) massive gap drop, obviously me, and the mod is sam wheeler! this gap was massive, and not helped by the wind! note the pic of me landing, u can see that my rear wheel isnt round anymore! its closer to square! also.... fatmike seems to be somewhat famous around here!!!! check out tic and bigman trying to bum him!!!!
  12. hahahaha. this is turning out to be an awesome ride!!!! twill be awesome to see you all lads (Y) glad ur making an appearence tic :P im leaving plymouth at (:30 to met tupman tat bovey tracy for 10:30 with fatmike, then heading on up to hound/hay tor to meet everyeon else by about 11ish :D:):- see you badboys on sunday morning :D:D:D
  13. you've met me u crazy goon :P and ur gona ahve to put up with me again next friday :- too much prawn can never be a bad thing surely :D" hope theres a good turn out! im polishing my car tomorow especially so i can show off properly! may even have to fast track the sub/amp installation to get some music going :D
  14. right then laddies!!!! you all have to come now, as ill be bringing the mini, and if your not there you wont get a ride
  15. looking good (Y) has anyone else noticed tehy have a generally quieter brake sinse fitting an xtr booster? my brakes always used to be so loud, but these days im lucky if i get the tiniest squeak! we all know the noise is down to vibration, so im guessing the xtr stops so much that brakes go quiet.... anyone else noticed?
  16. cheers again guys.... i looked on car audio direct but couldnt find that magnat amp.... one thing that is for sure is that i need an amp with a crossover/hp/lp filter, as ive only got 1 preout on my headunit, ill need to run a splitter, meaning the hp/lp filter on my hu is useless....
  17. cheers bucky.... after reading around on a few mini specific ice sites.... and listening to people in general.... ive been told that i dont need the 6x9's AT ALL if im running the sub.... advice ive been given is to ditch the 6x9's totally, and get a 4 channel amp. ill run the front two coaxials off channels 1 and 2, and bridge channels 3+4 to double the power supplied to the sub.... ive also been told that the frequencies of subs are low enough to be imno directional so the brain cant tell where tehy are actually comming from. the 6x9's will apparently bring the sound stage backwards.... so after a 4 channel amp with at least 4x50rms, preferably 4x100 (Y) any reccomendations would be nice :) thanks nick
  18. 10mm doesnt sound worn at all!!! infact it sounds prety newish to me.... im certain my mini pads, and all the other pads ive changed (audi/bmw/citroen/metro!!!!) have had about 10mmish of life when new....
  19. tapping big is still somewhat of a black art.... 3 years ago nobody was tapping other than the pros.... then it started filtering down to us mere mortals.... there are people around who can tap perfectly well like me, and just slowly pregress getting an inch higher every few months.... then there are the monsters who can just 'do it' and are breaking the 50'' mark.... personally, my highest front tap to back wheel was 48'', and although i know i undoubtedly will go higher, right now i cant see how its possible :S but then again, in bristol rowan johns was consistently tapping a 4ft wall to backwheel, both, and into a manual :P so its obviously just a case of getting the technique perfect! steveS has done 51'' recently, then snapped his urbans  porter has done 52'' or something really silly i think.... what ive found is, the way to get higher is to tap lower  rowan was telling me in bristol, and now, if im trying a wall and not making it, i concentrate on hitting the front wheel low down, and it just shoots u up! but its scary.... tap tap tap
  20. hey guys, after years of telling people that all you need is a set of 6x9's and some comps up front to get a nice sound.... ive finally given in and decided i want more bass.... but the big but here, is it has to be CHEAP! i dont want a show stopping crystal clear sound system, i love what ive got, the sound id perfect for me, i simply want a bit more bass. so ive been looking at subs on ebay and this one seems pretty popular.... JBL 1000w peak, 250 rms i know its not great to all you ice people out there.... but it does appear tempting..... i dont want anything massive, but what sorta difference is there going to be between a 10'' sub and a 12''???? the idea is to mount it on the right hand side of a mini boot liner which im going to buy, ill reinforce it with some 18mm ply behind to stop it all shaking like i did with my 6x9's.... mini boot liner its going on the triangular board in the right hand picture.... so 10 is max size. soo considering im totally on the cheap.... its either gotta be around £30 new like the jbl, or able to be picked up for 30 ish 2nd hand on ebay! now. amps.... my current setup consists of a 4x52w sony mdxf5700 mini disc system, with a paid of legacy 180w peak 2way front coaxials, and a pair of db audio 350w peak 3way 6x9s in the parcel shelf, currently all running off the headunit.... what kinda amp do i need?? do i just want to amp the sub and keep the 4 speakers running off the hu? or should i get a 2/4 channel amp and run the sub and 6x9's off the amp? ive heard something about 6x9's and subs on 1 amp being bad idea.... remember it doesnt have to be incredible.... i just want a bit more kick to my system really. as far as amps go i havnt got a clue.... if im just going to amp the sub do i need a 2 channel or a monoblock amp? does any of it really matter? sorry for not making too much sense.... i was driving home and flash dance-deep dish came on the raidio and i decided there and then i wanted a sub! and now ive had too much beer :S please help prawn!
  21. the main reason for binding brakes is of course pads not returning properly and hence rubbing the disc.... this can happen when the pads wear down, and the piston can fall slightly and no longer be square in the cylinder, stopping it from retracting.... this can also happen when the car has had worn pads in place for a long time (sanding over winter for example) and the exposed part of the piston (exposed due to worn pads) has corroded, stopping it retracting properly! if its just twisted slightly, it can be wound back in when u fit new pads.... but if its corroded, dont try to clean it up, do the sensible thing and rebuild the callipers with new stainless steel pistons (rebuild kits are usually sub£20) hope you get it sorted (N)
  22. fraid not mate, the coust frame is WAY lighter than the rex, the coust frame ive got weighed in at 4.25lb with a headset in.... so theyre actually pretty lightweight! who cares about weight anyway! its about how it rides!
