  1. I'm sure there are riders in my area, but very few, and I don't know them. I have seen only ONE person do a rear wheel hop in real life, and he can't do them very well. He did three at most.
  2. The part I hate the most about trials? Learning it.
  3. Hi everyone. I've been trying to learn rear wheel hops lately, and I'm having some trouble. I'm using Ryan Leech's tutorial vid, and using method two; the method being rocking onto the front wheel, then pulling back up into rear wheel hop position. I can pull up into rear wheel hop position easily, often even pulling too far back, and falling off. But my problem is, HOW do you actually do the hopping? I've tried many different ways and felt rather stupid trying. It isn't like hopping on the spot where you point your toes down is it? So if anyone has any tips, it would be great. Thanks!
  4. I love many bikes, but I REALLY like these ;o I just love the Chinese characters on it. Awesome.
  5. Pedaling backwards: On my bike when I pedal backwards, the pedals are just ratcheting back. But I've seen BMXs and single speed street bikes that when they start rolling backwards, they can pedal backwards and the pedaling actually propels them backwards, like pedaling forward would propel you forward. It's not just pedaling backwards; it's riding backwards. Yea sorry for being unclear there.
  6. Hey, I was thinking about converting my 2006 Norco Evolve into single speed. I heard that single speed has many advantages over gears, including weight, simplicity, the ability to ride backwards (I've always wanted to try this) and less maintenance. I know that riding around town will require more effort, but I'll live with it if there it is just so much better. How does one go about converting a bike to single speed? What parts will I need? I'm clueless, so I need advice. Thanks a lot!
  7. I heard from a friend that the BB7 works better than a juicy 5 for trials. The juicy 5 has great modulation, but doesn't lock as well as the BB7. I don't know if this information is correct, but it sure sounds logical.
  8. Haha, awesome. I just came back from swimming Alright, so just riding will increase my strength. Would pushups help? I don't have access to gym equipment, sadly.
  9. Hi everyone. I have a problem, and that is I am quite weak. When I was trying to learn bunny hops (and I still can't do them), I couldn't pull up the front of the bike high enough. So the "bunny hops" ended up to be both wheels off the ground at the same time. Also when I was trying to learn wheelies, I found pulling up the front end of the bike up and back to wheelie position. Something tells me that if I lack upper body strength, rear wheel hops will be extremely difficult as well as getting onto obstacles and trials overall. So what can I do to increase my upper body strength? And is lack of upper body strength really the cause, or am I just doing all the moves wrong? I'm 14 and 5'2", if that helps. Thanks everyone!
  10. Yup, I did go with the Evolve. I know the Evolve isn't the best bike, but it was very cheap ($400 CDN.) So far, I've found learning much easier. The weather outside is miserable, so I took my bike into the basement and practised rocking. Whenever I felt like I was falling over I'd just lean to the right side (where a pole just happened to be) to regain my balance and try again. Better than putting my feet down So basically, I'll get a better bike as I get better. But so far, I'm really enjoying trials.
  11. There's a video on Youtube on bunny hop to manuals; I don't know if it'll help but here it is:
  12. Thanks everyone. The Evolve I'm looking at is a 2006 model. The archives on the Norco website says it weighs 27 lbs and the wheelbase is 1081 mm. And yup, I plan to put new parts on it as I go along. Probably first on my list is to make it single speed.
  13. Thanks for showing me that website. But.. I'm on a very limited budget of $400.00 Canadian, which would be roughly 200£, assuming you're in the UK. I have considered mods, however I seem to be partial to stock bikes. Something about the smaller wheels just doesn't suit me. I should probably be fine on a stock right? Since there is a used Norco Evolve for sale near me that fits my budget and is in great condition, but I don't know if it is a good bike overall. Thanks.
  14. Hi everyone. I'm new to this forum, and new to trials biking as well. I have a couple of beginner questions. I'm 14, and I'm only 5'2" (short). Would this hinder my ability to ride trials? Also, is the Norco Evolve a good bike? I am looking to buy a cheap beginner stock bike to learn with. Thanks everyone! Hmm. It seems like many people here are in the UK. Is anyone in Canada like I am?
