Spd is the mtb type which is easier to walk on. SPD-SL is the type where the cleat is just on the bottom of the shoe un-protected. And clip clops every step.

Made for brake use will mean it has a sidewall. You can use a brake on any rim, even if it is "only for brakeless use". Just means your pads will not wear flat and braking isn't as good. You can also tell by looking at the rim if it has a sidewall or not. Or atleast I'd hope you could. Ride it brakeless then? It's your bike do whatever you want with it.

It has sidewalls. So you can run a brake on it. So you havn't got the front one yet, but want the rear to match it? The colour will come off the rear straight away with a brake anyway and look shit.
