  1. Use the search! Theres been loads of topics like this in the past To answer your question if you have already road both 20" and 26" you shouldn't really need to ask other people as i would have thought first hand experience would be the best judge. Dan
  2. Yeh i just mean filling the corners down, if done evenly and smoothly it can make quite a difference to sound, this is often done on car brake pads to stop them squealing but thats a whole different subject lol. Dan
  3. Until recently i just thought about my technique as im quite a beginner compared to most of the people on here. But since snapping my chain 3 times in the period of a couple of weeks i've been thinking more cautiously about where i would land if i had to bail out if my chain snapped again. Probably new chain time to be honest lol. Dan
  4. Chamfering the ends of your pads will make them quieter. But noise is vibrations and the only real way to loose most vibrations is through a booster. It made a huge difference to the noise of my brake when i put an echo booster on my raven 4. Good luck. Dan
  5. My mate said his brake was crap until he soaked the rotor in hot soapy water for a couple hours, after that it was mint. As said already it could be your pads are contaminated but if it works well when you pour water over it then its probably just your rotor. Dan

    Tires?

Nokian gazza 2.3 on the front and a dual ply maxxis high roller 2.35 on the back, high roller looks brand new and i have been using it for 4months. Gazzas probably had about a year of wear (was on the bike when i got it) both roll nicely and stick like 's' to a 'b'. Very grippy and i won't be changing them any time soon. Dan
  7. For me, after i had learned to trackstand and pivot around on the front and rear wheels i moved onto backhopping, this took about a week to do 4-5 hops, then after that it was onto the pedalkick. Pedalkicking is probably the most important basic move. But if you can already do all that, then taps, bigger gaps and generally doing every move 500 times to make it all look smooth is what you want to spend hour after hour practicing on. Of course you can always be creative, make sure your having fun with riding and if you can't do something then just move on to something else.

  9. Locktite is more of a bodge than a solution, if the bolts are bottoming out before the crank arms tighten just use some washers to space the bolts further out so the crank arms tighten up before the bolts do. I had a similar problem (albeit with a different set of cranks) and this worked fine for me.
  10. No offence it does look different and all but personally i think it looked way better before the respray. The pink bits just look a bit tacky especially considering how nice the overal finish of the black was before the pink was added, obviously every man to his own. I would also like to note my bike is also a pinkish/purple colour so im actually being a bit of a hypocrit Anyways nice idea which im sure looks better in the flesh
  11. I ride a zebdi mk1 (2002 i think) and it rides lovely. I have ridden a few modern frames and personally i would say they haven't changed that much, higher bb's, slightly shorter cs's and generally a bit lighter but unless your current frames been battered or broken, keep with it for the time being and upgrade other bits. If you do decide to change frame however, £200 - £250 would pick you up a nice second hand frame and probably leave £70 - £100 left over for other bits. There are always bargains in the classifieds section and on ebay so just keep your eye out. Have you ridden anyone elses bike to see if its definetly the bike thats making it a struggle on the back wheel? You never know you may be struggling just because you've been away from the sport for so long and you need to reaquaint yourself with it, maybe try a couple more stem sizes because i have found this to make quite a big difference to the overall feel of the bike. Hope you keep with it and don't stop riding because of this blip. Dan
  12. That looks cool. Im making a bike work stand for gcse at the moment but im currently only at the modeling stage and then its back to more sheet work Mine doesn't look much like yours though lol, i haven't seen a system like yours yet so you deffenetly get some points for originality. I've chosen to use a mole grip affair so it can clamp to the top tube or the seat tube but it may be too complicated to make What grade did you get overall?
  13. In the end i coudn't get to Plymouth today because the trains were off for servicing or something but im going to try again next weekend so hopefully i will see you around !
  14. Basically me and two mates are heading down to plymouth for a ride tomorrow, i know its not much notice but if anyone is out and about and they see 3 beginners, 1 riding riding a mission reefer another with a black bt and me riding my purple zebdi then please come over and have a chat and show us some decent spots. I personally never go there and although my mates know the area in general they don't know the best places to ride. We should be there from midday till sixish or until it gets dark. It seams there are quite a lot of people from plymouth so hopefully we will see some of you nice folk down there! Dan
  15. As a beginner i ride whenever i can, need all the practice i can get! I try to ride in light rain but im not really a fan of wearing a full waterproof suit or having to check whether my fingertips are still attached. Saying that i struggle to do anything with even an ounce of dampness in the air with my current crappy pedals! And as far as what i do when im not riding, absolutely nothing. Just end up watching more trials videos or thinking about doing coursework (which usually lasts 10mins before i start scribbling trials frames on a random piece of paper).
  16. Personally i would get something second hand, its allot cheaper than buying a bike in bits and will probably already have the correct parts for the job. There are always decent bikes going on ebay for £300, most of these would cost double this to build up in parts. How much can you do already? You can learn the basics on just about any hardtail bike, you don't want to spend £600 and then realise you not really that into trials. Dan
  17. Did your brakes suddenly stop working as good as they used too? As you should only need a bleed if there is air in the system and that dosn't usually happen overnight (unless you caught the pipe of course)! If not you might have nocked it or something, make sure everythings lined up and the pads are as close to the rim as possible without rubbing, actually a small amount of brake block lightly touching isnt too bad. And if that fails a grind is better than tar in my experience. Im sure if you use the search there would be hundreds of topics on this subject. Dan
  18. I ride hydraulic rim brakes front and rear and love them (when they're behaving), there are a few things i would mention though; 1. If either of your rims are bent the brake looses some of its sharpness as you have to componsate for side to side movement. In this case a disc may be a better option?! 2. As mentioned by Boss, the mounts on your frame and forks decide what you can run, if you have v brake mounts you will need evo mounts for magura rim brakes, visa versa if you only have a disc mount then theres no decision making to be done! 3. last but not least if you go for rim brakes i would advise a grind atleast on the rear rim as this makes a MAHOOSIVE difference. Hope that helped. Dan
