    V Brakes

    Vee's and Maguras are on par with each other really. When both set-ups are used with the same set of pads the V-brake will usually offer more hold, and the Magura's usually offer more bite. Their are pro's and cons of both brakes: Vee's are a tad trickier to set them up well, but once they're on you can leave them do their thing for ages. Whereas Maguras are pretty simple to set up, but I forever found myself re-bleeding them due to me splitting hoses etc.. Thats why I use an Avid Ultimate V-Brake It really is personal preference, but Magura's are shite when paired with Evo2 mounts. If I were you I'd get an Oddessy Linear slic cable, SD7 arms & lever, and a pair of aluminium backings with Heatsink/TNN/RockMan pads. That'd be a great set up man..
  3. 20 : 16/15 16 on the rear makes it nice for trials, 15 makes building speed for street easier
  4. Echo Sl's (or TR's if your on a budget) front and back. Unless you want a freehub on the rear in which case the Hope Pro II is what you want

    Tyre Choice

    They're all good tyres, apart from the Echo's. Get a Sticky Lite if you looking to save wait. Get an Eagle Claw if your looking for maximum bounce. Get an Echo if you want a tyre that'll last ages (but won't grip!) Get a Creppy Crawler if you want a great tyre thats still cheap. My favourite mod tyre has to be the Creepy, its dirt cheap yet its as grippy as any other mod tyre out there.

  7. Just use a light grind. With every pad I've tried, they've had better bite and hold on a grind compared to being used on a smooth rim.. And they work in the wet! If you insist on keeping a smooth rim, use tar! All these fizzy drinks do is make your rim sticky, so the pads stick to it, but the drinks don't stay on your rim for long. Where as tar stays on for weeks, so you don't have to keep re applying it;)

  9. Matt, try putting a bolt through one of those holes, and coil the spoke around it to create a spring. Like I have: By having this you can take your rear wheel off as normal (incase of pinch flats, re-grinds, etc..) - instead of having your tensioner wrapped around the hub and it causeing problems
  10. I'd go far the Tensile bars if I were you They're very light, a nice width, much cheaper than the bars you've 'narrowed down' and in my opinion have the perfect geometry. I've had both TrialTech and Monty Exclusive bars, and these Tensiles are far more comfy to ride with..
  11. Going back to what this topic was created for - 'Is SelectBikes a good site to order from?' I've ordered from SelectBikes on a few occasions before, I once bought a pair of stock Echo Urban 07 forks from him, anyway it all came through pefectly okay. The guy at SelectBikes is really sound! When I ordered an Echo 06 rear mod hub from him (it was £30) and it turned out they were out of stock he phoned me up and then sent an 07 Echo hub for the same £30 price tag (when they were supposed to be £75). EDIT: I wish they stocked more things personally, because I always like to order from the smaller buisnesses when I can to help them out, but often SelectBikes don't have what I'm after in stock, and Tarty do..
  12. I'd say about 2 years would be a normal lifespan with a good build. By this time the rim would of had countless grinds on the sidewalls making them thin and prone to dents. But people are constantly changing their rims because of colour, weight, width, number of spoke holes, wheelsize.. So you can't really get a proper gauge on the lifespan of rims at the moment. If people are going through rims fast it'll either be down to their wheel building skills and ability to keep there spokes tight, or simply that they are an utter basher!
  13. It could just be your BB thats loose.. I don't see how your crank can be loose, yet also be tight to the BB axle

    Mod To Stock

    I ran a 150 X 30 Viz Welded mod stem on my Adamant A2. It felt horrible with a Trailtech Sport stem, and still quite bad with a TartyBikes stem because they were so low. But the mod stem felt just right

This is the same for vee brakes and Magura's, doesn't stop people using them for trials BB7's (and BB5's) are the most powerful disc brakes that I've come across whilst riding trials, maybe I'm slightly biased towards them over a Hope because I much prefur the feel of cable brakes. Just because a component doesn't say "trials" on the side of it, or is not deisigned by a trials company doesn't necessarily mean that its not trials worthy..

  18. Yes, those are 4-bolt mounts for Magura's. You can get vee brake adaptors though - these bolt on to the 4-bolt mounts, and have a vee brake post on them. So you can still run your vee brake on that frame

  22. The Trial Queen sounds awsome. I've been trying to decide between a Rain King or a Der Kaiser for a while now, guess I'll be getting this How thick are the sidewalls, are the comparable to the RK/DK or the RQ? Also whats the expected price going to be, under £60? EDIT: Checked on Tarty - £45, sweet!

    26" Frame

    Matt, I've got a frame at home that I brought practically brand new from some chinesse guy. He said it was a Zhi Z2, but it doesn't quite look the same, and it measures up differently. Anyway its the geometry your looking for : 1075, +60, 383, 72. (with my Atomz forks) EDIT: Its vertical dropouts, but maybe you wanna try it out and see if its the geometry for you? , before you go and splash out on a frame that you may not like..
  24. Yeah it makes no difference which you choose regarding preformance, thats down to the pads you choose and your abilty to keep the rotor from getting contaminated. Setting up a BB5 is a little harder than a BB7 as you can't just twist the outside knob to make the outer pad move in and out (like you can on a BB7). But if you can set it up nicely then you won't notice any difference in power. I'm actually running my BB5's instead of my BB7's - as I find the outer knob used for pad adjustment on a BB7 tends to slip
