Differences Between The Mono Mini And The Trials Unit?
maxwellduryea replied to maxwellduryea's topic in Trials Chat
but they didnt change the caliper, the pads, the disc, or the lever? -
Does anyone know what exactly Hope changed between the regular Mono Mini and the trials mono? Is it just the pad/disc/braided hoses or is there more? I emailed Hope, and havent heard back from them in two weeks:(

What Do You Drink Before Riding
maxwellduryea replied to mista-neos's topic in Beginners Trials Chat
childs-play. me and a buddy drink some Frosty Jack's and then some White Lightning. Out of brown bags, of course. ahahhahaha. Na, waters where its at. Tea second, and then Gatorade (you guys have Gatorade here?!?!!?; either way, its amazing) -
Protec Bucky Lasek (Spelling?) is the best fitting helmet ever:)

Na, no problem, dawg. Im just saying...all of you guys (Except people in say Sweden, Ireland, etc.) have it made. Most of Europe has it made. Spain, England/Wales/Scotland, France, etc...all have relatively big numbers of riders. Your jaw would drop to the floor if you went for a "big" ride back in Albuquerque with me. Our good turn out is say five riders. And Albuquerque is doing pretty well when compared to the rest of the US. New Jersey house a few big names, as does Colorado (they house a lot of Cycling in general). But still, its NOTHING compared to here. nothing. Im not fighting with you buddy, im just saying, you got it made:) be thankful for it and cherish it, because some of us are not as well off.

when will people just accept that it will NEVER happen? ahhaha. every few months someone gets the great idea to try...and i always chuckle over it!

Word. I can vouch for that. Im American, and i (along with a lot of other riders back home) envy how HUGE the sport and culture is here. You guys have some of the best exposure, best companies, and best riders. Trials in general is a smaller, more complicated sport. It has always been small, and will remain smaller than other sports forever. why is it that there are so many threads of riders bitching about how "small" trials is in the UK. ITS f***ing huge here!?! Open your eyes, and go ride. Quit complaining about something that is right in front of you.

unfathomable. if this is for real, and it not someone just getting a rise out of us, id have to say that i wanna meet this guy. he is my new hero. you sir, have just made me (and the rest of the cycling community) feel 100 times smarter:) here are my thoughts. first off, i ride steel frames exclusively. i have ridden aluminum, steel, carbon, and titanium frames. out of all of them i like the feel of steel. this doesnt mean that its not brittle, that it doesnt crack, or that its not heavy. steel frames DO crack, they are extremely fragile, and they can be heavy. but this goes for all materials. all those materials will crack. all can be heavy. its a matter of finding that equilibrium between all these variable, and the persons preference. i like steel for ride quality, and because it takes dents/bends a lot better, and that when they do crack (and they do) its an easy fix. i have had aluminum frames that havent cracked. i have yet to have a steel frame thats lasted longer than a year of riding without it cracking. lucky for me, my norco has a 25year warranty on it. so when i break it, i ring em, take the frame to my local shop, and wait two weeks till a BRAND NEW frame arrives. and inbetween that time, i build up another norco i have laying around. its a pain in the ass, but i like the way the frame rides, their warranty, and that i get a new frame every year or so. as far as bmx bikes, they are actually pretty light these days. all components (aside from frame, fork, handlebars and axles) is CNC'd, just like our bikes. my buddies new Mirraco Black Pearl, with all 4 steel pegs) weighs in at 22 pounds. thats extremely light. granted, its got no brakes, smaller wheels, and so on...but we generally* dont haves seats, and only 32 spokes. so i guess it all evens out. this thread has made my month, and possibly my year thus far. i wanna meet this guy! ahahahaha.

Tim, remember the film "contact"...thats the film that got me into trials. Classic film. Thats when trials was booming in the states. Now DJ/Street is booming. Trials isnt the only genre of cycling hurting from needed exposure. BMXers are getting on 26" bikes just for the sheer fact that they can make money and actually get noticed, where BMX would have been much more difficult to achieve. this isnt to say taht the BMX community cares or is worried about their "scene", but it does show a shift in apparent likes or riders. anyone following the fixed gear craze? thats a whole other topic...which i would argue is the best cross-training for trials. cycling is changing. its good and bad. i just miss all the kick-ass monty full body Lycra suits riders would wear at comps:)

i think one of the best bodies ive had is Canons Mark I 1D. Its 4.15MP but is truly a machine. 45pt focus, 1.3x crop factor, 8.5 frames per second....only downside to that camera is you cant zoom in on the screen to see if it was sharp or not. but hey, do it right, get it sharp the first time! the new canon rebel (not sure whats the name) its a pretty sweet body as well. or the canon 40D. are you buying used or new? how muc to spend on body and lens?

the mark III is like 2500 actually. The panasonic point and shoots are wonderful:)
-
why would you say that?

I ride a ORO K18 up front. Best brake ive had. Ive had a Hope Mono, Avid BB7, Hayes hfx9, so on....still prefer the ORO.
-
ill agree with that.

I think trials will grow, but it has to have a solid foundation to build off of. Unlike so many other types of cycling, it needs a lot more time to mature. Take fixed gear riding; the popular craze here and back in the US. Its quite easy to get a bike, and then its quite easy to go riding with others. Trials is boring if you cant ride. Its boring getting to that point here you can actually backwheel things, its boring until you get ANY of the basic moves down. Which can take a while. This is why so many people get into it, give it a whirl, and then quit after a while. All other types of cycling are easy to progress in. Trials has to be the hardest and most frustrating. Any rider that has taken part in all the other genres, will agree. Its just frustrating. But when you get good and can loop moves together and just ride for fun, thats when others wanna get into the sport. Thats when people will commit. Thats why its hard in the US (and Ireland i suppose) because there is such a small amount of riders. Either way, i enjoy it more than any other riding i have taken part in. For physical, mental, and social piece of mind. I love it.
