I do Karate.
I find that if you take an objectional view to it all, that's best.
It's funny in a way, if you look at some old Karate books, by the old Okinawan masters, they essentially mention that martial arts should absorb the best parts of other martial arts.
In fact if you look at Karate, if you take into account all of the styles of karate, and even within single styles, there's potential for huge variety, including real hard punching and kicking, elbow attacks, some jujutsu style locks and throws, and even some of the more fancy looking kung fu moves.
MMA is good for the future of martial arts. Perhaps not so much for the purposes of self defence, but the idea of mixing it up is definitely a healthy approach.
