I suppose if the headset's not in straight or if the headtube isn't straight then it could cause something like this... but you'd be able to tell both of those quite easily. Maybe check the race is on straight too. It also happens if the parts are in the wrong order or if one's missing. There's sometimes a skinny little ring in headsets that mystifies people, or they put the split wedged ring in the wrong place. All of this seems sort of obvious to me, to notice or to know to check, so I can't imagine it is any of those, but it might be worth a look.

A longer bike will help, but it doesn't mean you have to buy a barge. Perhaps you'd be interested in the inspired fourplay or the rockman switch frames, these will allow you to keep your style but you'd have more room for bigger moves. There are other shorter trials frame options, the echo pure and control both come in short, so does the zoo piranha. These are 1065 or so, though.

You can spot them from further away. People on TF seem to like them. The old style lever has a TPA that's more vulnerable from breaking if you fall off, but it's easier to replace. The newer lever's TPA is nice and out of the way, but it's easy to crossthread it because it's plastic, depending on how you use it.
