It's a tyre tap on a bmx but it's a backhop on a trials bike. Pull back and loop out a few times and learn where the balance point is, then start hopping when you reach it and use the hop to maintain the balance point. As a beginner it's easy to do it so you hop backwards but as you get better you can do it on the spot.
