Sounds good to me, where abouts are you now Josh?

I just bought some Britemax Iron-Max and Tararamour. Getting freaky with the S tomorrow.

For you? One million. Depends how big the van is, and if you just want the bodywork done or in and out?

I've had a couple of emails off the back of Robs Evo. Got a 575 Maranello to do next week. An M3 for next month and a Subaru for whenever I can fit it in. Cheers easy.

Yep! He smashed it up, and spent months looking for an MR front end and couldn't find one. New the panels were unbelievably expensive, and they just don't come up second hand ever. When he sold his smashed up panels they sold instantly for more money than he paid for the carbon wings. And that was for a bent and cracked bonnet, a f**ked wing and one immaculate one. If you google FQ340 MR you will notice hardly any of them are red, it's one of the rarest colours. And because it is single paint, they are always a different shade car to car so aren't really interchangeable and would looks stupid if you resprayed it with fresh paint.

f**k the insides of the wheels, they are being refurbished this week because they have been scuffed by AP. The carbon roof spikes never came on an MR, only the MR had the raised lines down the side of the gutter. Much better than those chav tastic roof spikes. It only has carbon front end because it was smashed to pieces in the motorway two years ago and a full carbon front end was £1000's less than sourcing genuine MR wings and having them painted. The owner doesn't actually like the carbon.

I was concerned because the panels looked SO dull during the polishing and cutting. V32 has a very long work time, and is incredibly course. So I was really worried the hard dry paint was just being marred and dulled by the pad. But as soon as I buffed it regained its colour. It wasn't until the cherry glaze went on that it got any wetness and depth to the paint. So I used a medium cutting pad and cherry glaze, then a finishing pad to make sure it wouldn't return any time soon. I think I will buy him some quartz coating so it stays for a few years, and should stand up to his no polishing habit.

I remember the Merc you did. Looked good. It's a shame, but the only way to do a restoration like that is literally just to get on with it and jump both feet first. It's always a bit scary moving from panel to panel and praying the shade stays the same.

The pictures everybody wants to see of the Evo rather than the dull how it happened.

So. My mate Rob owns a very very fast, beautifully mechanically maintained and very well modified EVO 8 MR. A really rare car with a full HKS tuning kit, ball bearing turbo upgrade, twin plate xeddy paddle clutch. It's the business. His dad bought it when it was 6 months old and had all the modifications done, and imported it. And owned it up until a few years ago when Rob bought it off him. It gets serviced every 6 months and has been known to do less than 100 miles a year. Rob doesn't know how to wash, or polish a car though. This is an issue. In the time he has owned it I kid you not he has never done more than wash it with a bucket and sponge. The result was this - You get the idea. So. I have been badging Rob for about two years to let me sort his car out, for free. Girlfriend was away this weekend, Rob and I agreed not to get drunk on Saturday night (we did) and that the day would be dedicated to the "pink princess" as I call it. I got shit faced last night, and had to put the timing back an hour. But Rob bought me a pack of fags, I drank 6 cans of red bull and eventually made my way there. The Evo is currently being driven by our friend Andy P, due to is inability to keep his S4 running. So we had to pick the car up from his. Got the car back to Robs and we washed it with Britemax Clean-Max PH balanced shampoo. (Which is fantastic) The car was then iron-x'd to death. I have never seen so much fall out removed from a freshly cleaned car. The car was then dried, and Jesus Christ the paintwork is appalling. Every panel was like this - I considered doing a test on the petrol cap, but a Rob and I agreed that whatever I did to it couldn't possibly make it worse. So I tooled up with my DA, a Hexlogic yellow pad, and Chemical a guys V32. And I attacked the rear 1/4. There was no lacquer on the car, at all. Anywhere. Rear 1/4 restored I moved onto my two problem panels. The boot, and the roof. The boot was hard work. But probably the most rewarding panel. The roof was seriously hard work. So much paint had to come off I was terrified of making it too thin, but patience, slow speed and the long work time of V32 was paying off. I had to let Rob have a go, so I gave him some instruction and set him loose on a 1/4 of the roof. Happy with that! Onto the other side.

This morning. During. An 8 and a half hour paint correction later. Full write up coming soon. I promise you, it will be a bit special.

Lamin-x them with clear film now and they will stay clear forever. Mark, it sucks to be you.

Yeah sure. Let me know when. I'm doing a full day paint restoration an an Evo tomorrow for a mate of mine, it has honestly been washed twice in the last 4 years with a sponge and washing up liquid. Parked outside all of its life. I have been badgering him for literally years to let me sort it for him, but he does <1000 a year in it so he can't be bothered. Apparently the paint feels like the back of a scouring pad. The roof and boot are white. This is what it looks like soaking wet...

Whacky whacky fun times!!! I bought some new shit the other day, Chemical Guys 32 compound paste. A hex logic yellow cutting pad. Some Dodo Juice detailer. Zaino Grand Finale. Dodo Juice Hard Candy. It's good. I used it all today, along with some snow foam. I'll go with the finished shots first. I chilled out with the cat in my car. Detaily shots. All unedited of cause. From the downpour this afternoon. Spunky. She looks mighty fit compared to the day I drove it home.

You need to machiiiiine mother f**king polish that shit. I'm about to post pictures of me machine polishing shit.

Don't buy a Rex if you plan on doing 3k a year, they don't like low mileage at all. They like to be driven, if it's sat up for weeks at a time it will be a nightmare. To give you an idea, an old friend of mine who isn't really a friend any more used to do about 50 miles a day in his RX. He had it rebuilt by Rotary Wizard when it was imported, so it was fresh to him. He has had it two years, not a single issue other than it drinking fuel and oil. Different friend was so impressed he imported the same car, and had the same rebuild done by the same company. He uses it once or twice a month for a quick blast. The b*****d thing never works. Always broken down, sensor this, misfire that. If you want a fast toy to do no miles on buy a motorbike.

Rebuilt turbos don't just "go pop" unless there is a hardware fault. If there wasn't a fault somewhere they wouldn't go pop... Which is why my 145,000 mile old original K04 still works perfectly with 20psi coming out of it. Factory built and balanced. How many shitty hybrids have I seen over the years with the wrong oil galleries, thrust bearings and seals in them...look at prawns first turbo! Hybrids are odd, they only produce so much power as a standard unit because that's the safe tolerance of flow and compression for that housing. Asking for more is like putting a 9" dick on a 7 year old. It might have the tools, but it won't know what to so with it for long.
-
Lies. Prawn and I have had over 500,000 miles worth of 1.8t's all running 20psi and haven't blown them up. Muppets with heavy feet who drive turbo cars incorrectly hugely shorten life span...that and poor mapping and hardware.

Have you checked for rodents in the manifold?

http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/car-polish-compounds/meguiars-105-ultra-cut-compound-8oz/prod_822.html Use the "pinnacle" method. Start at one. Increase speed by 1 notch gradually until you get to 6, when you are at 6 the abrasives will have worn away to it being a fine polish. Then glaze.

Nah it's fine. I got pulled over driving a Morris 1100 back from Grimsby on a booked MOT once. Laws the law

Fantastic JD. A DA is the key to stepping up from getting good results which eventually fade, and fantastic results which last. I knew you would be ok with it, being a man of reasonable intelligence.
-
How did JD get on with the DA this weekend, that's what I want to know.
