  1. Chers, im thinking of sticking a simple front row ti on it...what do you reckon?
  2. because thats fatist (not to be confused with fattest)
  3. i might show my face if i finish my brake mount
  4. just to clarify, is chainstay length measured from centre of bb to centre of rear axle?
  5. to have that many engagement points in a conventional ratchet and pawl hub the mechanism would have to be really small ar have the pawls offset so it only engages on 1 or 2 pawls at a time, hence not making it ideal for trials...but having never seen one/never taken one apart i can't really comment!
  6. i still use old style tensiles and i've never had a problem with them, i think there were good and bad batches.
  7. i thought about doing it the easy way...but my original idea was to use a hope xc as opposed to a mono to create a decent casette hub with a disc mount for use on a mod (inspired by JT's topic) I guess i can always change the hub shell to a hope xc version at a later date, and in theory (because the non drive side spacing is unchanged) it should have perfect disc alignment! below is a picture of it today, just got to neaten the end of the freehub body up on the lathe now and take aprox another 1mm off (roughly cut currently), then get the thread cut on the inside of the frrhub body for the lock ring. The spacer edd potts made from bronze i remade from aluminium...i think it's going too wear quickly but its all i could find!
  8. i'm sick of broken vee adaptors...decided a rear disc would just be less hassle!
  9. nope, a hope xc is pretty symetrical (bigger spacer on non0-drive side) with same sized flanges so you build it pretty much central for 135mm spacing I'm thinking of putting a rod in the axel to stiffen it up then tap the inside to M6 or whatever diameter it is to run with bolts. I might juat run it with a qr skewer to start with until i can be arsed.
  10. It should be fine...the only thing is the rim will need dishing towards the non drive side obviously.
  11. I just finished modifying the axle on the lathe, quite happy with it The hard bit now, got to get the freehub body cut and get the thread tapped! below is a picture of the hub with the mod sized axle!
  12. if you're getting a vee brake for the rear...dont get an xtr, i've used xtrs and ultimates on the rear and the ultimate is a billion trillion* times better. *this is an aproximation
  13. yer, i'll cut the axle in the metal working shop at school, might try and cut the freehub body myself too if i'm having a good day, if not i'll take it to the local engineer, i get on with him quite well, which is useful as he always does me little favours like this
  14. ah, i get you will do that!
  15. shouldnt be...what do you mean?
  16. how did the bush fit? will one set of bearing not do the job then?
  17. i have no idea, it looked hardly ridden when i bought it from joe rothwell i dont know whether he was really careful with it or just didnt ride it much?
  18. ...until the cage gets crushed/bent/worn
  19. there are two sets of bearings in the freehub body, so if the freehub body is so much narrower, it should run fine on just the one set (i hope!) cutting a thread isnt too much of a problem hope monos arent too bad, similar to the xc minus the disc mounts...back in the day everyone used them! the proIII replaced the mono and the proII replaced the XC
  20. after all this talk of people wanting a hope mod hub i've decided to make one! it's going to be a hope mono with 116mm spacing...decided you dont need the wide freehub body (obviously going to be single speed on a mod!) so im taking 19mm off that side, then 19mm off the axel and turning the end of the axle so the spacer fits on anyone see a reason for it not to work? has it been done before? heres a pic to illustrate my master plan slightly better...
  21. would you be interested in a hope xc hub modified to fit a mod?...
  22. if the axle is bent then that would explain all of this...if the drive ring and pawls seem ok a bent axel could lead to the not engaging squarely...see what i mean?
  23. pretty banging video hopefully i'll be at portsmouth uni this october any chance of riding with you guys if i get in to the course i want?
  24. could be, but i think the drive ring is splined? (might be wrong?) could also be caused by a bent / snaped axel...
