  1. EDIT: CURRENT BUILD ( V4): changes: went back to 25.4 handlebars, because i realized i like the elasticity (i won't like the face plant as much, but hopefully that won't happen without notice) went ffw again, i realised i REALLY missed the weight distribution. running 17/12 now which feels great for street-trials (similar to 22/16) lost the brake booster and i can't say i notice any difference lost the front brake and i really enjoy it like this. i rode brakeless a few months before building this setup and i missed the smoothness and the simplicity so i went halfway and kept the rear brake only which i tend to use as little as possible got the echo fork back on (it's a bit shorter and i like the geo better, plus marino's fork was is a bit asymmetric which bugs me) put on a kenda k-rad on the back as well and i love it. holds well enough for trials and it feels great at street stuff and cruising around also changed my previous grips (which were slim lock-ons with an outer layer of tennis grip) with trialtech foam ones. it's cool they're so light, and they are actually tough, which is surprising, they also stay put, which also is also surprising, but they do feel a bit more "fluid", yet not enough to be annoying, so it's all good... that's about it. i think i'll keep this setup for a while since i really enjoy it feel free to comment the tensioner works well nice so far EDIT: PREVIOUS BUILD (V2) changed some drive train stuff and handlebar/stem. have the 23T trialtech sprocket and a bashring i locally build for around 12gbp. bashring is 84g, 6mm wide, 110 exterior diameter so that it can adopt a 24t sprocket in case some manufacturer decides to build them. chain tension is so far ok, but will loosen soon enough. i'll probably try a spoke tensioner first. didn't get a chance to ride it since it snowed. will have to see if i get along with front vees this time around... INITIAL POST: right, so here are the first pics of my upcoming build. if everything goes well, tomorrow i'll have a fully functional bike. here's what i asked for: (the wrapping shape of the spoke was his input, i'll go with the "laid" shape (paint is done locally)
  2. hey, since i ordered a new trials frame from marino, i also ordered one to make a commuting bike (something like a fixed gear freestyle bike, only with a free hub and brakes) got my frame, and put some test wheels on.. does this look like a 73,5 head tube angle to you? wanna figure out if marino screwed up my ha or is just my imagination... here is what i asked for: thanks for taking a look
  3. you could post a link with the model
  4. you looked for those blue ribbons in the back to match the accents on your bike, didn't you? DIDN'T YOU!
  5. true... i'll see after i get my fork and frame from the paint shop. thanks!
  6. Hey! I got this new marino fork, and the thing is my wheel stays sideways, meaning the rim is not centered when i look at the distance between the tire and the fork arms (with quite a good amount, 5 mm or more). I would like to figure out what's off, and i can't just by looking at it. Is one dropout higher then the other (resulting in a slanted axle) or are they not centered on the steerer tube (meaning the wheel is still vertical but it is not centered on the fork)? My wheel is not spoked asymmetrically, because if i flip it, it remains closer to the same fork arm, so it's something to do with the fork. I want to know if i should eat up a bit of the material on one dropout or should i lace it asymmetrically. My question is if you can think of a way of checking this, other then just staring at it.. Thanks for your interest! (PS: my fork is being painted atm, so no pics till monday)
  7. gives a whole new meaning for the term "bashring" : ) must be for a gay site, don't see any other reason why they would be sticking tires in their asses...
  8. i love this bike (except the stem) real nice price/spec ratio!
  9. sorry for furthering this thread, but does anybody have some input on the tensile and the rockman riser bars ? (angles are good, rise is decent, don't know how much they hold, and if the rise is actual, because the pics make them look like 2" risers, but maybe it's because i'm used to 25.4 clamps)
  10. i wonder when are 29"ers going to enter the trials world?
  11. hey! sorry for a bit off topic question, but i'm curious, what is the status of 24" bikes in trials competitions? did they become legal in UCI or BIU? (from my point of view, there shouldn't be categories , i don't really see the point in them, they should define what a "bike" is, and let you ride whatever fits the description) nice and clean bike btw!
  12. ok, thanks! i'll probably just go with the holzfeller cranks that i already got at a great price from this forum (i will have a 24/18 ratio which should be pretty great, a bit harder then my previous 18/14 and somewhere between what you respectively stan have). i will probably be adding about 300g to the setup which i really hope i won't notice too much. The thing is, since i am not going big, i could get away with with lighter setups, yet i am pretty tired of having my pants eaten by the ffw, and i could use some extra momentum by having the ratchet system on the back (plus if i continue to use a ffw, i will add some extra drag due tot the spoke tensioner i intend to use on my upcoming frame)... meh, checking my options...
  13. uuh, finally done! please tell me the dropouts are working ok, 'cause i ordered the same ones on a frame of mine (not my trials one, but a commuting frame that has a flicky geo) watch out for those double wall bars - i found cracks on mine after 1.5 years of use. do you actually need that chainstay protection?
  14. hey! is there any 14t (or 13t) freewheel on the market that is good enough for trials, so that i could use it on the rear hub and put a 18t fixed cog on my trials cranks? i know that fw's below 16t have a different thread standard (smaller diameter), but i don't mind that since i have a fixed hub that has both standards on it. (i know there are the inspired bashguard and the 23Tcog from trialtech, but i think the prices are exaggerated for these so i want another option..) thanks !
  15. damn it! then the search bar doesn't do it's job right. anyways, delete it.. sorry for the repost
  16. hey, all seems nobody posted this jet, so i'll do it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jCDpJa3cTiI i, for one, find it absolutely brilliant. definitely brings a new vibe to the scene, and it really starts to show the creativity and fun that you find in bmx vids, but with a trials topping to it!
  17. looks quite great ! how's the tension obtained on this one? pure luck?
  18. loved the vid. proper good times on two wheels
  19. mark w should answer this, he has a bmx background and he's really good on both bmx and trials. (or at least trials, haven't seen much footage of him on a bmx) but i think you can just watch some of his vids. he does ride a 24", and he does incorporate lots of spins and stuff in his lines, you decide if he is more creative or not. i don't ride bmx, just 24" street-trials, but i would think that not being able to do pedal kicks, forces you to think of other ways to play around on a bike. i have been riding brakeless lately, and i see myself excising a lot more street stuff, since the trials moves are limited in this setup here's a clip of him and stan form tartybikes: (he's the one with the maroon bike)
  20. avid sd7 avid ultimate (although it sticks out more than the sd7, and the bearings on mine have loads of lumps after 1.5 years of use, good thing is there's no play, but i don't think they're really worth the money)
  21. what's rock city? a bike shop? i can;t find it online..
  22. as they say there.... "lush"...
  23. partially right, meaning i'm not referring to the visuals of it, that's pretty subjective, but about other aspects, like how they behave on certain tricks (does clearance provided by the low top-tube of cruisers help in any way) and if one version is stronger / stiffer than the other
  24. not sure it's just cosmetics. the fact that you have a lower toptube might influence some moves, there is also the structural resistance aspect of it. i think it was a guy from russia and i think something broke (forgot if the frame or the fork).
