All brake pads need to be bedded in from new. The way they are made leaves a glazed finish on the surface which needs to be taken off. Normally this is done though riding it for a bit. You can bed it in faster by riding with the brakes on, rubbing dirt on your discs or as I do use a bit abrasive paper. Best to use wet and dry paper. As for types of pads i only use the organic pads that are made by the brakes manufacture. All the after market brands tend to have a poor fit to enable them to fit in more than one brand of disk brake and the compound used fades more quickly.
