Cheers, they're some good numbers at 81kg! Ever considered power lifting? Those numbers are higher than some of the entrants to my local power lifting club's last comp in the 83kg category. (I considered having a go but as I'd be in the 105kg category I'd be stone dead last haha). I'm also aiming for 2/3/4 but I'm miles away. Also I've strained my anterior deltoid where it connects to my collar bone so going to have to rest until next week at least.

That all sounds very silly indeed. Not my cup of tea at all!

Don't understand circuits and stuff personally. All that running and sweating can't be healthy...

Squatted 120kg this morning, well happy. With my 150kg deadlift and 70kg bench, that gives a total of 340kg, which is 748lb. Getting the feeling that I might break 750lb before Ogre breaks 1000lb.
-
I am nowhere near light enough for that shit. I still can't even do wide grip pullups. Lats are girl lats.

Starting to get pissed off with my bench. Been stuck at 70kg for ages. It's improving slowly but it's very very slow progress. Yeh it is dead important to learn the correct form for things, and to ask other people for advice and stuff. Don't take everything as read though, prime example is ogre can squat barefoot, I've never been able to. Even running shoes are better for my than barefoot. Hoping to match my PB squat of 100kg tomorrow with my new shoes. Did 100kg with running shoes on but only went parralel, new shoes allow me to get into a much better/deeper position so would be well happy to match it. PBs for me are 70kg bench, 100kg squat and 150kg deadlift. Total of 320kg or 704lb so should soon be a member of the 750lb club if such a thing exists. Cheers dude, was crap form but I was pretty happy with it. 3 big plates plus change each side still looks big to me. Might start posting stories here of my gym's residant liftbrah twat. Chats up every girl there with totally obvious "negging" lines, and offers unwanted advice to everyone there but me (because I glare at him a lot probably). f**king arsehole.

Aren't they just running shoes? They're supposedly the worst shoes to lift in apparently. I read that on the Internet. to be honest I do believe that now. I've been lifting in Aesics running shoes and my knees were getting properly f**ked. My lifty shoes really have seemed to make all the difference. Deadlifted 150kg this morning. Not amazing considering I weigh nearly 100kg but getting there.

I read somewhere that on a normal night out if you approach 100 women and ask each one to go home with you that at least one will say yes, unless you're fat or mad ugly. Guess you could use the same logic. Just straight up ask every woman on tinder if she likes it in her botty and at least one will be up for it. -

Pics or it didn't happen. -
They seem great! I've always had 2 big problems with my squat; not being able to squat low enough (safely) and not being able to sit back into it and keep my torso fairly straight up. New shoes have improved both so I'm happy. Can't squat as much weight with the improved form but this morning was my 6th day training without left so might just be a bit tired. Btw anyone who only squats parallel, have a google about the damage that can do to your knees. I believed for months that any lower than parallel would damage my knees until I damaged my knees and learnt how knees work - when you squat down as you would to do a poo, the knee joint wraps around the ball bit and supports the load, so that's where you want to stop the weight and start driving it back up. Can't believe how long it took me to find that out and now I have work to do to build my knees back up again. Anyway, anyone with issues with flexibility or range of movement in squats (or Olympic lifts), try lifting shoes.

It's not a troll at all. I've had it on my phone at work and sat with 10+ people at lunch passing it round and several saw it as white and gold.

Dude you can overclock your little dual core until it pops the lid off and my shit old 965BE will still eat it for breakfast. Clockspeed isn't everything.
-
No Ed, a poxy i3 530 is nowhere near as quick as my 965BE. I benched an i3-2120 (when building my Dad's computer) against it and it lost.

I have lifting shoes!!!! These ones: Going for a crafty leg day tomorrow morning to test them. Will be the 6th day lifting since my last rest haha. Sunday is the day of rest.

You mean workstation as in my computer at work? That's got an i5-3340. No SSD yet but we're trying to get budget. Don't really need it though as I run Ubuntu so never have speed issues really. Only 8gb of RAM which can be a pain at times with the number of VMs I use for testing but it's running at 1600mhz so not too bad. That spec you posted is less powerful than my file server.
-
I strongly, 100%, totally recommend against laptops, spending £200 on computers, Windows and wives. This thread is for expensive toys and overclocking! Not for cheap workstation help. (I blame tomturd for closing the tech support thread).

I like that this thread is picking up. Never done crossfit or fat loss personally, so can't really comment with specifics, but IMO Mike the important thing is to enjoy whatever you do. Assuming you've done very little over the last few years, doing something and watching your diet a bit will see results whether it's in fat loss or muscle gain. I don't enjoy trying to lose fat, so I don't. I eat a very clean diet but plenty of calories as I pretty much focus on powerlifting style training. All the heavy things.
-
Depends entirely on your foot shape and how stable your ankles are. I can't do anything barefoot as I require a fair bit of arch support. You're thinking deadlifts there mate. When squatting a heel lift means your ankle can rotate further forward and bring your knees forward, so your torso is more upright. That's why all deadlift slippers are flat and all Olympic lift shoes have a huge heel lift. Without shoes can be far more unstable. What's flatter, a lifting shoe or the base of your foot? Regular trainers are like standing on a mattress but I squat in snug fitting running shoes because it feels way better than barefoot. Need to get some proper shoes though as I'm going fairly heavy now.

I was crying with laughter, f**king brilliant.

Yeh take your time with deadlifts. They require a lot of core strength to support your spine. I wouldn't start doing heavy stuff for several months, and stick to 8-12 rep sets and concentrate on form instead. With deadlifts and squats, foot placement and support is super important. Start with light weights and watch your form in a mirror or get someone to watch you, and read online about different methods. There's no perfect form, it's different for everyone. Some people suit having their knees spaced a bit wider than others, or heels a bit higher (different lifting shoes have different height heel lifts). It's all a case of working out how your joints behave and stuff. I'm still not that big or strong though so don't take my word as read.
-
Sounds like the right stuff to me haha. I eat pretty similar stuff but a lot of green veg with it. I think most people can gain muscle and lose fat at the same time to be honest. If you train hard enough to force growth whilst burning more energy than you take in it's going to happen. I don't know much about fat loss to be honest. I just want to lift heavy things.

Yeh well luckily I weigh nearly 100kg so 1 a day for 5 days a week seems OK. Protein shakes are a supplement and need to be used as such IMO. It's important to remember that "protein" is actually a family of many things and it's a very complicated subject. Whey simply doesn't have the protein quality of meat/fish/eggs IMO. Depends what your goals are. If you want to look a bit prettier for summer then you're right, eat a normal diet and have a couple of shakes here and there and you'll be fine. If you want to put some proper size and strength on though you need to eat the right stuff before supplementing it IMO.
-
My Dad always complains about it because he remembers when cars were light and the pillars were skinny and they folded up neatly into a cube when you crashed.

Yeh the mercury gets into the tuna when it's still swimming about. It has an extremely long half life, so if your levels get too high they take months to come down. I mean silly like fits of rage or hyperactivity way beyond what I normally had, was pretty grim. Only last about a week because I cut it out as soon as I worked out what was happening, then gave it a month or so and then start having 1 tin a day and only on gym days. It does get expensive, and to be honest it's only worth it when you feel that your diet isn't giving you enough protein. If you feel ~100g works fine then stick to it. Shakes work for some people, I just don't get on with them. I know a lot of people who swear by them though who struggle with the physical quantity of food needed to eat 3000cal a day from clean food. I'm a big fat twat though so I don't struggle.
