I watched a programme on telly of a really high flying plane, it goes to the edge of space, whilst at its peak you can actually see the curvature of the earth.

You know if you quote something at least read it to find my point of view on why I think the sidehop is an original move. Okay so TGS is apparently young kids who can only gap and sidehop?, what about the kids who do nothing but natural? and that is the only style of riding that they actually ride and can't do anything when it comes to street. How about those apples?

Best thing to do is ride on your bike as it currently stands, then when you get to Expert/Elite level of riding, all the differences to weight will make a dramatic and beneficial difference to your riding. I am not at that level, but it's known to work, reason why some athletes use heavier items when training (American baseball teams often use a practice bat which is heavier, that way the weight difference when it comes to a real game is much more noticeable and easier to move).

What ever happened to the idea that trials has no rules and that all trials is free trials? Okay I agree with the whole "STOP TGS!" when it comes to videos which are just sidehop after sidehop (such as the Summer video that was just recently posted). But when it is a combination of those moves used throughout the video, it shows what trials is, and that is clearing or getting up/over an obstacle in whatever manner possible. As already posted, I find the sidehop of the moves most individual and iconic of trials biking, and for a good reason, its probably one of the most flexible utilities a trials biker has to clear and obstacle, because of the variations that exist and the way how it is done from a static motion.

I'm all for thinking they give better grip. When you cut every other outer tread off, the remaining ones stand proud from what is now a bald area of tyre so in that tread is like a hook whereas if there was a tread occupying the empty space it would not have the same hook effect. I guess the best way to think of it would be a pedal with lots of pins in it, if you have lots of pins the surface area would be greater (which should therefore mean more friction and therefore grip), but if this was the case we would be seeing completely flat pedals with no pins at all, in which we all know a pedal with pins (back to the hooking idea) has better grip than pedals with missing pins. Its probably one of the best minor weight saving techniques about, tyre wear is amazingly different, and it doesn't make your bike any weaker, it probably saves about the same weight as drilled sidewalls (but again without the weaknesses).

Swindlehurst does two wheels to two wheels in his first Noisia video. Natural videos have sidehops from different terrain/sloped surfaces.

Thats just an excuse so you can go all emo/scene. They don't call you "Tight Ryan" for nothing.

I still don't the sidehop haters. The sidehop is probably one of the most original and unique moves we have in trials, you start static (from two wheels or rear wheel) it can be done or varied terrain/inclines, and you land static. what other kind of bike riding style can boast a move as original as that?

Watching videos of what people classify "TGS" is what got me into trials in the first place. "I'd love to be able to hop up a wall" (sidehop), "I'd love to wheelie up that railing" (tap), "I'd love to gap from one railing to another". Its the style of riding I find most impressive to watch (Natural videos are only good if they are short clips of the main footage, such as the gap and not all the prebouncing and whatnot before it). I love riding natural, and I love riding street, natural is good because I don't get stressed out and just ride, street is what pushes me and makes me a better rider.

Aha as usual no pictures of me riding, just ones of me mucking about. My bike gradually got worse throughout the day, but big thanks to Nick to helping out and giving me a quick fix on the front brake.

That looks lush, I wonder if your riding will still be super smooth with magura's? See you about on it sometime.

You boys missed out on Pizza. (Yes I'm going to be fat when I'm older). Whack those pics up Skoze (I assume it was your camera).

Yea with Windows movie maker there has to be a sequence of clips to space them out. It's easy to see this with the thumbnail editing view rather than the timeline view.
-
Yea I know of some guys who rode XC bikes as trials around the time of the two Martin's, coke or fizzy drinks used to be all the rage for them.

Well I think I've heard stories, usually birdface just says something about "Simpson" or "Balman" then just mumbles away and drowns out in the backround as he does. I'm there, lets just hope we can prove the weather man wrong again (supposed to be light showers).
-
Ah pop along Senior Simpson, I haven't ever riden with you man, heard a lot of tales about you. Just realised it is a week day, so probably won't be able to ride some spots, we should have done an evening ride. =D I'll be able to stay lateish, probably the best idea as it'll be a nightmare getting on the train with all the commuters.

Possibly The Funniest Trials Related Thing I Think I've Ever Seen

Yea my mate made that, have you got a problem with it or something? -
Thats a really nice technique, it reminds me of a zap tap but it looks like you use body weight and momentum alone. That looked effortless going to rear wheel, I bet you could do 8 if you really pushed it or perhaps edge your way up a bit.

I've been working 9-1, come home had a break now going to my other job from 4-8, and then after that I'm gonna pop down the gym and relax in the pool and jacuzzi.

Was it this? http://video.msn.com/video.aspx?mkt=en-gb&...f4-76dffca2dd6b If so, then I believe it is "The chain by Fleetwood Mac". Its at the very end of the song, so don't be put off if you download it, listen to the beginning and think; "This isn't the song".

Yea theres girls who I know younger than me who have got tattoos on their belly and one who has got one on the back of her neck. To be honest though, they are the kind of girls who are a bit much for their age, and not in the good way either.
