I've never actually thought about an abandoned building. To me, there is just something about a derelict building, and if a lady friend could see it in the same way I do, that would make an awesome day out (or in). Its perfect really, as its bound to be quiet which of course is ideal for talking (also a good excuse getting closer and whispering), its dark which creates intimacy, and theres always a bit of fear when your in an abandoned building which of course brings you two together. If you have no budget, I'd recommend something like that or settling down somewhere, don't just pick an random bench, think of somewhere that is; quiet, calm and free of any distractions. My best and most intimate times of the last year, was with a ladyfriend in a large field with longish grass (almost enough to cover you when you lay in it), and as the field was out of town and away from a lot of houses, it just gives the perfect setting. Thinking on it now, all I remember is her and grass, thats how good the setting was, no other distractions, just the two of you without a care in the world. =D

I changed mine to the name of the weird stalkerish kid at college. Bloke I work with has "Studly Ramrod", think along those lines. I also tried some things from TV series or games, one I saw was Robot House, from the Futurama episode where Bender goes back to college.

Right upon examination today, I found that the pads already had an obvious ring created by the piston, so didn't bother to sand down the back of the pad. I went and had a little ride and it did feel a bit better, but was still a bit of an occurance so I gave Hope a call, chap on the phone didn't know what to suggest and sent out a set of pads in case of a bad batch. Comparing with my front mono trials, I guess the wobble in that is minimised by the amount of brake dust and crap build up in the front caliper (well at least the knocking noise is muted because of this). I'm hoping that the pads I've got in at the moment on the rear, are slightly too small as that would make for excessive movement inside of the caliper (where a better fitting pad obviously has less room to move). After I've tried these new pads out I think its a case of riding it through.

Riding wise that looks like it will ride quite nice. Aesthetically, that looks gash with the mismatch of colours. =D

Can I just ask why sand the back of that pad? Surely that will make the problem worse as it gets rid of the groove/rough surface that has already started being etched into the back of the pad by the piston, or is it a different principal of grip here? I've heard of using the copper grease before, my understanding as to why it is used, is to work almost as a filler, as well as muting/masking the noise that is made when the pad moves back and forth (rather than an audiable clonk of pad against calliper). Cheers for the input into this, I'll examine the brake before work tomorrow, and if an obvious reason as to why one pad moves a tremendous amount doesn't become apparent, I'll try the sanding of the back of the pad and will keep you informed of the progress. Thanks for the advice.

Indeed, how many decent interviews can you think of which feature just the person talking, every interview has some form of cutaway such as a reaction shot or noddy, or in this case his riding which is reinforcing what he is saying. Crazy stuff, those reverse front nose manuals are insane, especially on that high ledge.

I love the research that has gone into this, its immaculate like you've covered just about every aspect of comfortable braking. You've got to think of adaptation here, if you have lost the use of one hand and are keen to ride then over time you can adapt to things that most people wouldn't even think of. Luke managed to use two levers on one side really well, and you've gotta think thats effectively only 2 fingers and a thumb gripping the bar, which to me seems impossible. I think this is a brilliant idea, especially how the design allows for different braking patterns, such as both on or one on etc. £65 for a CNC lever? That price tag alone is amazing, especially when compared with the quotes Luke had for a custom lever (although I guess that would have been a one off). Have you thought into other applications besides the cycle market? Like motorcycles? I'd imagine there is a large amount of motorcyclists who have lost the use of a hand (or even a leg) through road accidents. A slight tweak of the design could produce Clutch/Front brake lever for those who have lost use of their right hand, or front/rear brake lever for those on the right leg. Please keep this updated, I would love to know if it becomes a full fledged success. Great stuff.

I'm downright certain its a problem with the pad, as I said, only one pad is doing it (one is locked solid, the other moves a ridiculous amount). I've also had my front mono trials from new, and have replaced the pads in that in its lifetime, and did not experience anything like this either of those times. Forgot to add, the clonking the brake makes is a similar volume to that of a freewheel skip.

Right I know the inevitable answer here will be; "Send it back to Hope!", but not being able to contact until Tuesday and the prospect of having to send the brake back and wait a few days, I'm open to consider other options or see if anyone else has shared similar problems. Basically I've got a rear mono trial (which I ordered direct from Hope last week), its still in the bedding in period but I know there isn't something quite right with it. Often when I hop on the rear wheel or go to rear, I get a horrible clonk when I land. I got off the bike, held the rear brake and pushed the rear wheel back and forth with my hand (noticeable movement followed by a clonk). Through a process of elimination, I have found that it is not the caliper or the rotor itself (as this moves in unison with the wheel). I looked at the pads from above, and found that for some reason one pad (just the pad on the bore cap side) has a large amount of wobble, whilst the other pad has none. There is also a large side to side movement at the retention pin itself (usually with most pad wobble the backing tab of the pad just pivots on the rentention pin), its almost as though the hole in the pad backing which the retention pin mounts through, is too large for the pin and allows for excess movement. I guess a way to confirm this would be to put my front pads in the rear caliper, but I'm fairly certain of my assumption by the amount of noticeable pad wobble I can see. Has anyone else experienced this kind of pad wobble, whether it is a defect or mismade batch of pads? Any feedback into this would be great.

I think the topic title was referring to things you've done intentionally? My scariest is some of the stuff I've had to do in competition sections, I'm only riding blue/intermediate, but a mediumish drop and a steep hill, combined with a few proud roots, scary stuff to me.

Another vote for the screwdriver, all depends how often your lockring pops off, or how often you service your freewheel. If you only need to do it the once for the lockring popping off, then I'd be inclined to go for a decent fitting screwdriver and a mallet.
-
That would be your problem then, best go for a rebleed and inspect your pistons. I had a problem with my front one last year, where one of the piston's popped out to far I could actually see them behind the pad when I looked straight down on my caliper. I then pressed them back in to find that the problem continued, eventually I found out that they need to pressed in perfectly flush to ensure they don't pop out again.

Do you look at the mantlepiece when your poking the fire? Aahaha thats a good one! Sigged

Man this stuff is weird. I'm posing as a 14 year old girl, let hope I don't get arrested for this tomorrow.

I don't care how much weight it saves if it makes a noise as gash as that. Glad to see that ordinary trials folk are thinking outside the box, afterall if we rely on what just the manufacturers produce then we will miss out on a lot of new creative ideas.

How Long Do Hope Disc Brakes Take To Bed In?
Captain Scarlet replied to Olly's topic in Beginners Trials Chat
Anyone got a good time scale of how long it takes to bed a disc in, I'm getting anxious with my rear one. I could have sworn my front one was a couple of hours riding, but with this new one I've had 2 good days of riding (must have been at leasst 8 hours so far), but its not even got better let alone bed in. -
I love mod, just because its universally accepted as 18:12. =D
-
I find it a fair enough reason. Love the noise when pedal hopping it just sounds so smooth, the audible difference can change your style completely. One of the reasons I always wanted to go rear disc is the smooth style and that you can hear the freewheel a lot more.

I ordered a set of brake pads from Trials-UK and they got here fine. I would be very hesitant to shop there again after hearing bad things from reputable trials riders alike on here.

Yep everyone has a different size and shape of head. Same when it comes to buying motorbike helmets, the same size can be a completely different fit between two different makes. Loosen it off, check the padding and make sure there are no sharp or proud edges in the plastic underneath. Worst comes to worst, just buy a new helmet. =D

Exactly, best way to think of this is much like a camel, its humps essentially being full of fat so it can go long periods without eating. If you don't eat, your body doesn't burn off the calories to compensate for eating, so the whole "Oh I won't eat, I'll loose weight" isn't that simple, and in some cases can make you larger by doing so.

Nearly Lost Some Teeth But Somehow Got Out Of It!
Captain Scarlet replied to Olly's topic in Beginners Trials Chat
Can I just say how the hell are people recommending Trialtechs when they haven't even been out for a year yet? I'm not saying they aren't capable but its like saying they last forever when there is no proof. -
Teenage Angst Communal Agony Aunt Thread
Captain Scarlet replied to Has anyone seen my shoe?'s topic in Chit Chat
Definately glad I didn't stay with my ex, she's gone and had it from a mate of mine (Yea thanks?), even though she knew that his previous fling with a minor (and a few days before) was just for sex. Now I'm suffering with the girl trouble as there just seems sod all happening on the girl front. =( -
Windows Movie Maker. Very basic stuff, you can learn with storyboarding, then move it onto a timeline so you can make finer adjustments. Just don't go over the top with gash effects, transitions or titles and no-one will ever know.

Which Way Does The Drive Side Of A Bb Tighten Up
Captain Scarlet replied to mountian goat's topic in Trials Chat
Did you not even read two posts above, that is completely irrelevant as it reverse thread. So going by that rule, righty would be loosey, and lefty would be tighty. What if its already fitted and you can't remember which way loosens...?
