  1. erm..... gets a bit complex this(at your level ali, id really consult a personal trainer whos knows what there talking about, not some fresh out of college, couldnt make the grade to be a p.e teacher youll get at your local fitness first wholl give you some generic plan) best thing to build leg strength would obviously be squats, calf raises, leg extensions/curls etc, but since on most multi gyms all youll get is leg extensions and curls legs wise, its not giving you the full range of exercises. you can do calf raises on a step/sturdy box. the whole loosing balance thing/finding them difficult to use is the exact reason you should use them, build up stabilizing muscles etc, a machine will make you strong to push a bar/handle up/down, in one dimension only, but in the real world/with free weights(Talking real world =biking wise here as well) the pressure/movement you make isnt just in one direction, and you have side/front/back forces acting on you. hence the reason free weights are better. trouble is, many of the exercises youll be wanting to do requires expensive equipment and/or a training partner. take squats for example, cant really push yourself on squats/do heavy weights, without a rack(getting the bar onto your shoulders/back onto the floor once your done isnt possible with much more than 30kg even with a desk or something to help you) leg extensions/curls, can do extensions on most cheap weight benches(as they have an extension below the seat you can place weights on) but youll have to get a dedicated machine to do curls/ a top end multigym, which is expensive. just how much where you looking at payin for a multigym, and examples of it. because to be honest, most of the multigyms ive seen with a decent amount of exercises on/a decent amount of weight resistance, that are built to last more than a few days, have exceeded a years gym membership several times over. youll be suprise how cheap some gyms are, theres a gym in altrincham my mate goes too, cost him £12.50 to join/get an induction, then its £1.50 every time he goes, so its like less than £20 a month assuming you go 3 times a week. even a cheap multigym would cost well over a years worth of that(and bear in mind, if he dont go, he dont pay anything for the gym, so like in summertime it doesnt cost him a penny, nor if hes got a week when hes ill, but that multigym will of cost you the equivalent of £30 a month for the year, even if you use it twice)
  2. yea, but it also is rather awkward when that bit of stuff in the lycra hot pants and the tight fitting top walks past you in the gym, and you got a 30 minute hard'un. likewise when you exlplode and you release half a pint or more of the white stuff.
  3. its terrible though, i remember i spent a week in bristol, stayin in a room full of lads, didnt knock one off for the whole week, went out at the weekend, slept at a bird i was mates with, for the weekend, didnt do anything, just slept in the same bed, went back to bristol for another week, after 10 or 11 days of no releases, i was ready to shag the crack in the ceiling. might give it a go again, just for kicks like.
  4. yea, sounds cool, although i think if i do it, (theres nothing to stop me, other than either a brand new enduro bike, 4 weeks in australia, or a supersports bike, which this ideas got to compete with) i want a mainly white interior, just for the hell of it/ to make it more showy, the more i think about it, the more doable it is, but then £2500 is also enough to turn the a3 if i get it, into a total weapon (considering iv factored spending £1500 or so on it on a cc remap, water injection, got some second hand 17's lined up, some good rubber, some coilovers etc) take out the water injection, and the remap, and i could just send it away with £3k to a company like awesome gti, or jabbasport, and say give me big power, and come back with something of evo killing proportions.
  5. thinking about joining the vdub club pretty soon, seen some really nice caddys of late and think i could make one on the cheap. at the moment its just a pipe dream, but atm im paying off me debts by about £350 a month, and saving £500 + a month(this month ive payed £350 off my debts, saved £500, and still have about £600 left after spending £200 + on clothes, and its almost halfway through the month) meaning if i get the audi, and then continue to pay me debts off + save, by february ill be debt free and have a couple of k saved up (not to mention i just totally forgot ill have the bmw for sale soon, which should see me at least £1000) so plan is, caddy. some sort of golf gti engine, although unsure really thinking a 1.8 16v'er would be good (although wondering how much work it would be to shoehorn a vr6 in there out of a scrapper/wrote off car(buy it and break it) flipped + welded rear axle lower the front down on coilovers some small 15" ronals, or some deep dish euro affair, or possibly 15" chromes(as much as i hate chromes, it does look good on the right caddy) wood decked rear(saw it in this months golf + the other day, looked the nuts) then some white or white/black or silver/black imitation leather or imitation suede/imitation leather buckets. retrim the doorcards to match. rub down fill and smooth the dash and spray it white. stick a racing wheel in there, new automotive carpet in there. bodywork wise, just make it smooth, colour coded, maybe copy oli and whack some audi handles on there(if i go for chrome wheels, obviously ill get chrome handles) or some other handle transplant. and a pair of thesemaltese cross mirros. then paint it all up, dependant on budget, going either for some home made matte/satin job(most likely a dark red), or a dark blue painted job(similar to the beemer, but darker) or possibly a vinyl wrap. as i say its only a pipe dream, but paint and rear decking excluding, it should be able to be done for sub £2500 (£1000 on the vehicle, £500 at most on the wheels, £200 ish on suspension(although ill most likely just trawl ebay for some front coilovers from a rear ended golf/go lookin at scrappies for the same)£350 on the interior(buckets will only be a £200 reclining ebay jobbie)say £350 on bodywork, and then £300 left to cover any other bits . but ive massively overestimated the cost of everything(As the chances of me spending £500 on wheels are none existant, some vinyl, some fibreglass, and some filler/interior paint paint and a bit of carpet are gunna cost closer to £70 than £150) and bodywork will be like on the bmw, all done by me, so its cost of fibreglass and filler, and whatever handles/replacement panels etc i need to stick on there) and i doubt ill be paying 1k for the vehicle if im gunna be doing welding to it, i might as well buy summit with panel damage/rusted panels) just need a project to stop me wrecking the new car, whatever it may be(a3/signum)
  6. i was about to say a similar thing. i spend a hell of a lot of time wearing combats now, but also wear jeans a lot in varying bagginess, wear trackies on odd occassions, wear 3/4 length trackies for the gym most of the time. looking across me room at me trainers, i can see: 2 pairs of nike shox, 1 pair of retro reeboks, a pair of adidas l.a trainers, a pair of vans, some river island white shrainers, some firetrap(i think) brown shrainers, a pair of lacoste carnabys, a pair of adidas superstars, 2 pairs of phat farm trainers, a pair of globe swyd's in white and pink. cant see my t shirt collection from here but i know it comprises of at least: adidas, nike, no fear, animal, lambretta, hackett, aquascutum, yves st laurent, pringle, superdry, alpinestars, fox, calvin klein, phat b*****d, xplicit, primark, cherokee by tescos, fred perry, fcuk, onfire, fenchurch, armani hoodies/jumpers etc are : river island, stone island, animal, ralph lauren, modified threads, teddy smith, phat b*****d, got fox and alpinestars on order, plain lazy. coats : oakley, animal, all saints, eisenger, think i got a calvin klein coat somewhere. oh yea and a lot of bt imagewear as well for the lot of this. so i guess i fit into all categories and none of them, naturally some of the stuffs tight/striped enough for me to look decidedly emo, some of its black and im sure i could dress as a pretty convincing goth out of it, could dress as a chav no problem, a football hooligan no problem, a skater, a biker, a hiker, a trendy brand whore. gunna be hard to label me as one out of that lot due to clothing style. also, before someone says well its clear im just someone who follows trends then jumps on the next trend, im not, i buy clothes because i like them, whether there me £4 cherokee tescos tees, or a £45 armani tee. and its not like some of the stuff i dont wear. thoses tees, in the last month apart from ck,fcuk and onfire, theyve all been worn.(cks are getting a bit too tight, fcuk top is dark green and doesnt go with a lot of me stuff, and i just plain aint digged me onfire tee out of the bottom of me wardrobe)
  7. lol, but bongo dont work for halfords(unless hes running 2 jobs/has quit his first) when i got vouchers mr bongo, they wer from supacheques or summit, and you could redeem them for vouchers from like 150 different shops(comet, currys, tescos, halfords, agros, asda etc) and they wer £75
  8. erm, dont let the person turn the key till your ready. dont hold onto the metal bit of the engine/or the metal bit of the screwdriver(i advise balancing the screwdriver and watching from a few inches back). and i wouldnt wear metal jewellry while doing it. disconnecting the battery would mean thered be no electricity to the car at all. so it wouldnt turn over and thered be no spark at all. so battery needs to be connected. if my memory serves me correctly, on the 1.0's , the 1.2's and the 1.4 polos, the airfilter is as you said at the top, directly above the engine, with an inlet to the side of the driver headlight??? i assume it would be the same on the 1.6's, but unsure, may of been repoositioned due to bonnet space(ive never seen under the bonnet of a 1.6 polo, just head me head stuck under the bonnet of too many 1.4's)
  9. right, ive been for a piss, 2 checks id do if i were you, without calling for any tools. 1)get the ht leads/pencil coils, and unplug one from the spark plug, place a metal object in it(screwdriver is a mechanics favourite) and balance it/hold the handle, so the metal bit is rough 1/4 of a cm away from metal(such as the engine). get someone to turn the key to try and start the car. you should see a spark arc across between the screwdriver and the metal. put the lead back on the plug you took it off, and repeat for the 3 other cylinders. if one or more of them fails to spark, try bending/wiggling the leads to see if its a broken wire etc, make sure its clipped/plugged in correctly at the other end. 2) if the vehicles got more than one injector(again suggest some googling and perhaps asking a slightly more mechanically learned friend) unclip the injectors(should be like a 2 pin plug, with a metal clip on it, push the clip in and pull the plug off, and try starting the vehicle. generally it should fail to start/run a lot worse with one disconnected. if it runs the same as it did, then youve identified which cylinder the problem is on. then its back to the drawing board(i.e finding a friend with a multimeter, checking voltages, perhaps checking/cleaning/changin spark plugs etc)
  10. i either think your joking or you know a lot more than anyone else on this forum? as thats a very complex way of adjusting tappets that i dont quite understand. assuming by fila guage, you mean feeler gauges(and not some italian sportswear tool) 1) im sure removing a head gasket would generally need for a new head gasket, ideally facing off the head, new head bolts, and a torque wrench 2) why would you need to remove the head/head gasket to adjust tappets? could of sworn they where at the top of the head, up nice and close to the camshafts. and certainly not down in the combustion chamber. 3) would you really expect a person who cant diagnose a problem on his car, and most likely has little knowledge of cars to adjust his tappets, using the i think 0.30 would be sufficient, 0.30 what? metres? (actually seriously now, do you mean mm, or are you using decimal points of an inch) and you just pluck that figure out of google. 4) im fairly certain(i.e im not as certain on this, as i am on the fact that generally speaking, you wouldnt remove the head gasket to adjust tappets, but im pretty darn sure) a polo of that age has hyrdaulic tappets. i.e tappets that need no adjustment. 5) when would tappets cause problems like this? and when are tappets an issue really, other than being a mild annoyance. toms polo will be efi, so theres no points/dizzy on her. im not an e-mechanic so i wont try and diagnose the problem from here. but check each leads sparking(can be done with no tools, other than say a screwdriver or allen key/metal rod - google it if interested, or ill explain when i dont need a wazz quite so bad) but no,i wouldnt follow josh's advice
  11. thats got bugger all to do with price of eggs/the cost of a speeding ticket. the cameras should in theory be 100% accurate. (although theres many people with optical timing units who would argue this with a lot of gatsos) calibrated to within 0.05 mph etc. what me+ oli where saying was the cars speedo wont be accurate, cars speedos overread from factory, moreso as the speed increased. ive been told by a friend that theres 6mph difference between me speedo reading and gps reading when me cars goin 120 mph+ on the speedo, and thats with bigger wheels on it too(which should make it underread).
  12. nah, id disagree, as lights go, the engine/engine management light is one of the least serious to be(of course not money wise, but then you dont own the car). generally means theres something wrong with the engine/electrics, but its either running ok, or the ecu will be restricting the power/revs/boost available and run it in limp mode. the car knows theres a problem, and if it was stupidly serious it wouldnt allow it to run. the air bag light coming on, on the other hand, generally means the air bag may not deploy in a crash, but it may also mean it may deploy during normal driving, which is far more serious than an engine cutting out(as even on the 3rd lane of the motorway, it should be possible for you to roll onto the hard shoulder using hazard lights, mirrors, horn and a bit of oh so illegal coasting) bad luck, but thats life. i failed my first test due to some guy in a golf coming round the roundabout off the bypass way too fast for his own good, trying to slot in behind me, but couldnt quite brake in time, so came up the outside of me, and wanted to go off on the same exit as me. i couldnt use the left lane to exit, and had to slow right down and slot in behind him. got a major, supposedly for lack of obersvation.
  13. right, was the dual carriageway restricted or was it national speed limit. if it was national speed limit, its a 70mph limit. and generally most forces+ camera partnerships work on the 10%+ 2mph limit, in which case 79mph would be the threshhold for 3 points and £60. if it was a 60, its 68, so if you were doing 77 at the time, youll get 3 points. bear in mind, at 77mph, your speedos probably overreading by 2/3 mph, so that 77 was probably 74 mph. if you want to see where they got you, go to the same spot of road tomorrow, obviously under the speed limits. and look for either white pacer lines(most like be 2 sets of 2 lines about 1.5 metres apart), or possibly sensors on the road(like wires running across). may not be there, but often its the easiest way to tell where it was.
  14. i just about remember both games i think, although the pc version was more seeing my mate play it. a lot of people are gettin confused between the fable of the early 00's an rpg and this one i think. fable 2 is the new rpg one as for similar games to the ones u mentioned, broken sword series. grim fandango little big adventure was similar thing, but more pseudo 3d, keyboard controlled. the monkey island games(curse of, escape from) myst is vagually similar, although more 3d and less cartoony, more exploration) riven is like myst
  15. not so much a mac question, but more of an apple fanboy/specifically an apple paid fanboy(yes nick, im lookin at you for a definitive answer) is tomm right(he generally is, and i want him to be, but it just seems to good to be true). will i be able to walk into the apple shop in manchester, and go "oi, fanboy, i want one of those dang 8gb iphones an i dusnae wanna a contract" and hell go "most certainly sir, thatll be £269 sir, would you like a bag sir" or similar to that. basically nick, can you enquire/do you know if i can just buy an iphone with no contract from the apple shop for £269. or for a different price what price that will be. because otherwise im just gunna get one off ebay, but its like an extra £100(although thats likely to drop in the next few days as people are able to buy the iphone from apple uk)
  16. managed 7am on friday, day at work, then 2 days on the piss without sleep before, finally crashing sunday evening in front of top gear.
  17. you almost made me wet my pants then when u said fable 2(and alos you said huxley wasnt out yet but didnt mention fable 2 wasnt. i was in 2 states 1) it must of been crap, ive never seen it for sale/mentioned anywhere and 2) wholly grab i need to buy that game right now, 24 hour tesco here i come. luckily i stopped short of grabbing the car keys and looked online, and its not out to 2008, but i hadnt even heard of it up until today(im not someone who plays games online, i realise theyd be the end of my social life and i dont buy games magazines). youve got me really excited. fable 2 is reason enough to buy a 360, im almost at the point of going and ordering fable off ebay now, so i can play it on my xbox, its genuinely the only game ive completed 3 times over, and wasted several days of my life playing, i didnt like the look of it when i saw it in the shop, and it all sounded a bit gay, but when i was convinced into firing it up to see what the hype was about, about 40 minutes in, i was addicted. so much so that i didnt sleep till 6am in the morning(bearing in mind i started playing it about 1pm) cos i was so engrossed.
  18. if it was at low revs, which by the sounds of it it was, you may be lucky and get away with little damage if its at higher revs, then theres a strong possibility youve bent valves, chance of piston damage to beyond usability(there may be a small surfact indent, but thats pretty rare) is extremely unlikely. may find camshaft brackets have cracked. but yes, pretty sure youll get away with just a top end rebuild. hell, dispite having owned a 1.4 seat ibiza(n reg) im not aware wether its an interference engine or not, hell if it aint, whack a new belt on, time it up, and drive it away.
  19. jeez, he came on here asking for advice, surely the fact hes looking for advice, as opposed to telling the guy to f**k off, deserves some recognition that he realises wats happened is wrong, likewise does the fact hes even considering buyin the guy another wii to avoid the trouble. and whose on there high horse here. not saying this to everyone, or even most of you, but theres a fair portion of this forum that take drugs that i know of, and probably a whole lot more who do it that i dont know about. and id also say most people at some time in there life have stole something, no matter how trivial, the difference being hes admitted it on a public forum and has opened himself for slating, not saying he hasnt acted like a dickhead, but i bet most of you have at sometime in your lifes. my advice joe, keep quiet do nothing, if(and its a big if, nothing to say it aint scare tactics) the police come round "ive never seen a wii other than in a shop sir" "ive never had a wii in my possesion" "yes i was at that party". if they ask who stole it, just use your right to remain silent(unless you want to grass your friends in that is). theres no evidence that you stole it, the person who had it stolen even appears to know its not you(bring this up if need be, xxx knows who stole it, there just trying to use me to get it back, as they no ill speak to the person who did steal it, rather than get myself in shit" doubt anything could possibly come of it due to that. your not grassing your friend in, and more importantly for the sake of your knee caps, if you dont say anything, your in the clear as far as the dealers concerned( not that youd grass them, but if you grassed your mate, and he grassed the dealer in as being the bloke that had it, theres a semi high chance the 2 of you would end up gettin capped by them)
  20. xbox 360 has 2 usb ports on the front, so yes you can. gran turismo is sony exclusive so no it wont be out on the xbox 360, but then imo forza motorsport outclasses GT anyway, and thats xbox exclusive at the moment, as is pgr, which is a lot more arcadey, but still a mint driving game. 360 games are so much cheaper too, loads and loads of pre owned games, so if you only got £15 you can still go pick up a decent game second hand, and theres plenty of new titles under £20 in the xbox classics range and just older games. whereas the ps3 dont even have a platinum range just yet does it, meaning all games are like £40 -£50 a pop. xbox is 4 player, ps3 is 2 i think. xbox has saints row, crackdown, halo, forza, pgr, etc. ps3 dont have anything that amazing in my eyes. and i havent even mentioned gears of war.
  21. possibly not the best person to ask on this, as weight gaining etc isnt really something i read in to(the reason i appear to know a lot about training is, because when i start doing something i tend to do a hell of a lot of reading about it, and talking to people whove been doing it for years etc) but id certainly say yes. some of the blokes at the gym talk about gaining 2 kg a month naturally, and some of the ones on steroid cycles will gain well over triple that if its one of there first cycles of the off season. also bear in mind, you only need to make the weight for weighing, you dont need to keep it fighting, drinking 2l of fluid before getting weighed will show over a 4lb weight increase. so if your a kilo or say off its nothing to worry about.
  22. doing all the sit ups in the world wont give you a six pack unless you get rid of the fat round it, and as theres no such thing as spot fat burning(i.e doing sit ups doesnt burn the fat from round ur waist any quicker than doing squats does). if your serious about losing fat and quick, as much as i dont use it, as i dont think it does me much good is cardio. go running, go swimming, munch down some miles on the bike. as for the exercises, chest press will build the pecs, as will push ups, lateral pull downs work the latimmus dorsi(kind of back and sides, imagine wer wings would mount if you wer gunna fly)shoulders, and to a lesser extent biceps and traps, so they wont do you much good for building up the chest if you got some dumbells, doing flys will rip your pecs, as will a nice wide dumbell press. as for abs, just do leg raises, V's and flying bicycles then, and also when doing any other exercises, try to keep your abs tense, well in fact any time you can do, tense your abs, wont make a huge difference, but it will bring your gut in a bit and once the fats off the abs will naturally be more toned from spending a long time in a semi tense state. as for eating, im not going to say too much, as i cant follow a diet/nutrition plan for shit, but speaking to all the bodybuilders at the gym, eat plenty of small meals, drink as much fluid as you can, and dont eat anything big late in the day if you can help it.
  23. yes, yes you can. licensing laws still apply the same as any other bike. so for a 110/125cc pit bike, itll be 17 with cbt and L plates,
  24. yay and nay in equal amounts to the train on an empty stomach thing, training on an empty stomach will probably mean you perform worse than normal. but it does burn more fat, as theres no energy in the body (hence the reason people say it hurts more, burns more, theres no energy to fuel it, as the body cant burn the fat quick enough) as for the muscle breakdown bit, its small to none existant if you can also combine some weight/resistance training under proper nutrition later on. ( body builders swear by doing any cardio they need to on an emptry stomach first thing in the morning if they can do, and it doesnt seem to do there muscle mass much damage, purely because they eat well for the rest of the day, and train weights in the evening) if your saying your not going to be motivated to go for a run, then id suggest perhaps looking at the motivation side of things before you start training. because its all right doing push ups in your room because its accessible and easy, and can stop whenever you want, but you do need to push yourself to see anything more than small gains. (hence the reason a training partners such a good idea) as for exercises, press ups as mentioned. once they get easy (i.e you can do sets of 20 or more without breaking form) then go for elevated push ups, where your feet are higher up than your legs, once you can do that, bring your arms closer in to your feet so you become piked. also consider wearing a back pack with pop bottles in to add weight. pull ups are a good one, as you cant really do much to cheat, its pulling your body weight up with your back and biceps. if you can find bars or rails/posts/walls like shoulder width - 1.5 shoulder width apart, tricep dips are real good. grab a couple of pop bottles, and do lateral raises. just search google for ab exercises, crunches, leg raises, v's, flying bicycles etc. just try everything and find something that suits you. pointless saying go running if you hate it, and wont do it as its wet and cold. but likewise saying doing stair running in your house, is pointless if you hate the repetiveness and lack of scenery.
  25. ebay is the obvious starting point.
