  1. think lukes said before it was 1239, so he may of just missed the 1 off, which still makes it a hell of a cheap deal, but with a bit of work, shoppin round, and living right out in the country, its not outside the realms of fantasy. something i meant to ask this topic before, as the people in here/looking in here will probably know the answer, is there stipulations on new drivers insurance now that states no motorway driving?? seemed like crap too me, but one of the old blokes at work has just payed for his grandsons car+ insurance(which has cost him £1200 to insure a 1996 corsa sport)as his 17+18th b'day presents combined and he was saying it was £110 more for him to have motorway driving added to the policy. just wondered if that is the case now(although to me, the amount of crashes on the motorway are miniscule)
  2. its not as bad as you think, at 17, round my area when i was 17. it was near enough £1200 for a male tpft, regardless of what car you had up to a certain point. i had a swift gls, then a 306 1.4, then a seat ibiza 1.4 in my first year of driving, all came in at around £1200. my mates 1.2 punto was £1220, another lad had a cinq, and that was just under £1200, another lad had a vtr for £1270. it was only when you got to group 9/10 that they started increasing in price. although i do think stuff like crx's and the like are very ambitious for a first car and luke, didnt know your crashed your focaye, get hurt or do much damage? but they really are sensible first cars, there not common for a young person to drive, they look pretty good/expensive(sit a v reg focus 3 door in black, next to a 51 plate fiesta 3 door in black and the focus instantly looks about 10 times as better) their big enough for carting stuff/people around, and also if you keep it for ages, getting a 1.6/1.8/2.0 is a perfectly respectable car with a decent enough image for when you go for job interviews or whatever at 20/21(part of the reason prawn chose his audi was cos it looked respectable/well presented when he went on site visits), there reliable, there cheap as for parts, and if you do bin it at low speed theres no shortage of similarly coloured focus's in scrap yards you can nick a bumper/bonnet off etc.
  3. its not so much if its inside the eyeball. ive been to hospital with grinding sparks in my eyes on several occasions. three times there been nothing in there, its just been scratched, once it was there, but was fished out easily with some solution and a swab, and another time it was almost stuck in there, which involved a doctor with a small metal hooked probe(talking miniscule here) sliding it underneath it and gently pulling it off. the main issue is. if it was hot when it touched your eye(altho only for a millisecond) it may of almost fused itself to the eye, i dont mean proper strongly, but almost like its just softened the top surface of the eye enough to get a weak join between the 2. and the eyes despite being your only pair, also heal very quickly(think how long a loose flap of skin would take to heal up, compare that to laser eye surgery, which is a smilae thing. and often with 24 hours you can be functioning normally.) meaning if theres any small adhesion to the eye and the bit in it, the eye will often heal round it, or at least begin to, in a matter of hours. (meaning its either a lot harder/impossible to remove, and or leaves scar tissue)
  4. yea, it may just be a nick/small abrasion on the surface of the eye ball, or it may be a tiny bit of metal still sitting on(or worse, fused into the) eyeball. i know because ive had several visits to the hospital due to this(altho ive now been bollocked enough times at work that i wear goggles at work, or sunglasses at home wen doing it) chances are if its just sore, its only a small abrasion, but it can still hurt for like a day or two. best bet is to get your mother or someone to have a good look at it, talking magnifying glass, pen light and u holding ur eye open jobby. and if theres any doubt, go get it checked out.
  5. Heres me question,(sorry if its thread hijacking, but this thread seems dead apart from the mac vs pc debate) is there any streaming p2p programs that work on vista right now?? im talking sopCast, TVUplayer and the like. used to have them on xp, didnt use them that often, but they where sometimes handy. but cant find one that works on vista at the moment. and to the point. i notice how all the problems ive had with vista, such as programs not working etc, have all either been fixed with downloading the latest version of the program, or the developers have got on their website "currently our software does not run on the windows vista operating system, but we are currently working on a fix for this" meaning the software developers are fixing the problems with getting their software ready for vista. as opposed to microsoft fixing their operating system to run with everybodies software. kinda suggestin there aint too much wrong with the operating system.
  6. youve actually just made me almost cry with laughter with that comment, dont know wether you somehow got comic timing down to the second there over the internet or something. but it was literally comic genious. but yea sam was well cool. and i did think the ending, if a little "generic heroic, selfless for the good of the worlds existence" stylee. was rather abrupt and short. although i suppose if thats how the book ended, thats how the film ends. was rather 28 days later to say the least. also some things didnt add up in it, but well not go into that, as its film, same as all the "he could of done this and that" but then if people took the sensible options, then films would be rather lifeless. like in 28 weeks later, if Felix da Suza or whatever hes actually called in that film, didnt kiss his diseased wife whod he ran off from before. everything would of been a lot easier, but then it would of made for a crap film.
  7. look around is all i can say, and do your research. any particular reason why your looking at small cars? as theres some pretty rapid saloons in similar insurance groups to the old civic lsi's. are the lsi's not group 12 or 10 or something. perhaps look at a 2.0 focus. only group 8 insurance(or a 1.8 focus) would be a nice modern, reliable, not too common for someone of your age to own car. (nice 3 door example in black or silver like) trouble is cant see what you really like. as you appear to like your classic's etc. but then if you love your classics. then surely a clean tasteful novas got a shedload more appeal than a mk1 clio. obviously other classics include minis etc.
  8. theres also possibility number 3. someone whos a responsible member of society has handed it in at a policestation/at the front desk. its lot more likely than number 1. really depends on who was around at the time.
  9. fish. molly. if kirstys anything like her sister(which she sounds just like) then she aint really gunna be that much fun for anything other than a couple of days of hiding the sausage. not to mention mollys fit. and kirstys not all that and a bag of foam fruits. (no offence to her like)
  10. i personally dont like new years eve, its toooo rammed. christmas eve is always a good night out, but its never normally a big night out, its more of a drinking and socialising night out as opposed to a clubbing night out. boxing days pretty dead round here, as a lot of people are working the next day/got to drive back home/go see family.as said its more of a go for a scampi and chips, and a few pints of rocking rudolph/festive spirit. new years eve is probably going to be the best night out as a clubbing night out. just expect it to cost a lot, expect to queue at the bar excessively, you to lose your mates etc.
  11. i was about to agree with you. but i was just on the specialized site, all the 07 enduro bikes are triple clamped bikes. (although the rest of the componetry is very much all mountain) planning on going to have a look at the trek at jejames some point in the next 2 weeks, if i liked it, ill buy it there and then.
  12. lol, bollox to the strike making me wrong, well thats my excuse. it the series being cut short to 8 episodes? (i.e its a full season but its only 8 episodes long) or is the series just gunna kinda stop mid season(i.e rather than the 16 episode season as planned, they have the first half of those 8, and then the last 8 just dont exist, and we go straight to season 5(if there is gunna be one now) or is the series going to stop mid season. and the other 8 episodes from season 4 will exist, but later on? (such as either season 4 in jan, then season 4.1/season 5 in september(and season 5 gets renumbered to season 6) or is the series going to stop mid season, and the other 8 episodes form season 4 will be tagged onto season 5, making it a 24 episode season(like the other seasons)
  13. see im not sure if its just the later combos, but we have a very large selection of combos(1.7 and 1.3 cdti's) which are all 05 onwards. and there a total pile of toss. would never pay to own one. there pretty substandard imo, they handle nice and the brakes are amazing, but build quality is pretty bad- they rattle like theres no tomorrow, road noise it terrible. theyre unreliable, eat front tyres(although thats down to the performance/stupid good front brakes your on about - but one bloke gets through a set of front tyres ever 4,500 or so, and there is plenty of more sensible drivers getting through tyres in 10-12k)
  14. still here, got to get up for work in 5 hours
  15. how do we know they had such limited technology, the romans had central heating.(admittedly they didnt have a thermostat and energy efficient boilers, but under floor piped heating and radiator style heat exchangers) yet only a few hundred years ago, people where relying on a primitive coal fire and a dead wolf to keep them warm in the winter. full circle, ice age, global warming, ice age. we may go back to living in caves in the future(admittedly not us, but like natural disaster may wipe us out, microbes, bacteria. earwigs, dinosaurs, chickens, monkeys, humans and all that development) theres no record of what the egyptians had or didnt have, so we cant just assume. that they dragged them up their on huge skateboards with square wheels.
  16. since i kinda had my full on hit me in the face, no subtleness "your life is a mess, feckin sort it" enlightenment on sunday morning, ive hardly slept, id honestly say between saturday mornin(10am) and now, ive had 7 hours sleep) which maybe isnt that bad. but. crucially i work a full time job involving manual labour with regular(8-4 + i did o/t yesterday) hours. dont know quite why, its not like im worried, apprehensive, nervous or excited, im just not suffering from tiredness. thought id get an early night to make up for last night. went to bed at 10.30, stuck a film on, im now on here and ebay.
  17. yea, i know what your saying, but.. suggest you go drive a few vans in varying sizes, one thing i was shown/told/drilled into me when i was doing my hgv driving. i was stuck in me big truck, felt stupid wide. and thought theres no way this is going to fit anywhere. he asked me if it felt big. i answered yes he then went and sat me in a transit van. goes " you drive one of these things all the time right" i answered yes. he then asked. when driving, how many times do i drive over the drains on the side of the road in normal driving. answered never then he asked, how often does me wing mirror hang over the middle of the road in normal driving, i answered never. he grabbed a measuring tape, and went from window to window off the transit, then did the same on the truck, was something like 7.5 inches difference. "when your next driving your transit along the road, i want you to stick your left wheels up against the kurb, and hang your d*ck out of the driver side window. if it doesnt hit oncoming traffic, dont tell me that truck wont f**kin fit, if it hits oncoming traffic, i suggest you go and compare with ron jeremy" where his next words. there will probably be only 3 inches between a transporter and a transit's width, and when your next in your car down the lanes, take a mirror check on each side and see how far your wheels are from the verge. youll most likely be pleasantly suprised at how much room there is. if you want a transporter sized vehicle, get a transporter, or a vito, you wont do no better. should imagine youve already looked at all the transporters on ebay. so ill give you another choice to look at vito minibus. again a hell of a lot of vehicle for your money(although slightly less than the transit, but it is a mercedes benz). benefits of this vehicle is , it wont have had a hard life, wont ever of been used for carrying heavy/dirty loads. its all windowed out(ideal for a camper) and the seats just slide out(and are probably sellable to boot)
  18. sweet as fcuk. although if it was me, id just sit there and take pics of it all day, for fear of scratching the thing.
  19. erm... although it ticks all your boxes coming to the pros and the pimp factor, it also ticks the following big con boxes its a 16 year old van. its got a towbar (meaning its been used for towing, i.e harder work, admittedly a motorbike trailer may have been all he towed, puttin very littl strain on the vehicle, but likewise he may of towed his mates car/van for several hundred miles when its broke down/towed a caravan) its been modified (so some bits wont be to your taste/if you want to drive it legally, youve got a fairly hefty list of modications to scroll out to your insurance company) its been modified (so theres a pretty good chance its been thrashed, although most vans have a hard life carrying heavy weights(which for the last few years this probably hasnt) you dont want somethings thats spent its life on the limiter)) its been modified (so theres a big chance of extra police interest, in this country and others (its not slightly modified, its very clearly modified) as for the price unsure on what a 1991 transporter is worth. but i dont think its that much. i kind of dabble in van sales(well my boss sells vans as a second business, talking 2003-2007 vans though) but i sometimes buy the vans off the people who buy a new van off him(in a kind of part ex deal) and ive sold 3 96/97 transits, 2 with fold out canopies(imagine a fibreglass sheet on runners in the roof so takes up no space, slides out about 3 foot outside the back doors, and you zip sides on, so you got space to put your bike/sit under cover/shade without being in the van) and 1 with a towbar(although towbars are peanuts to buy, like £50 or something, and a couple of bolts to fix) and for a 96/97 transit with 12 months mot. ive sold them for around £500-£650, and i dont sell stuff dirt cheap. for similar money, you could get say a very late 95-2000 transit, in good nick with low mileage, say a w plater or a 2000 series transit(not the very newest shape, but like up to 2006 shape) with like 100k on the clock or something, average condition, on like a y/51 plate) in either SWB, LWB, low/medium/high top(dependant on your space needs) prices dont vary too much between them just for an idea of lifespan of a transit engine, we still maintain some 95 series transits at work, with the 2.4 di engines, which are 4 tonne armoured transit vans, so are heavy, and have computers, no dropping windows, so aircon constanly on, and some of them are on 400,000 km. got no idea what the prices of the ones with windows in the back are, as have nothing to do with them at all but.... transit van wouldnt take much at all to kit that out ready for travelling, take the back seats out if your going solo, stick a bed in there(possibly keep the seperate sections , sleeping section in the back, bike, tools, etc in the front bit) and your done really. for £1000 more your getting so much more van.
  20. yea and risk assessments are done, on council skateparks, you very very rarely see obstacles clumped together, or within certain distances of one another. even the little 6 inch grind rails, generally have a large floor space round them. as opposed to runnin a foot from a jumbox. not saying you cant have obstacles close together, but your visions of a park of loads of close together obstacles will likely be ruined by healt and safety.
  21. yea i looked at the commencal, but its not really what im after(that sounds really nobbish, its an xc bike) i want an xc bike, but i want something a bit more hardcore, due to the fact im an ex trials rider, so wont get off and step over the hard bits, will bunnyhop over logs etc, and the fact im 6 foot 3, with a rather big frame(muscle wise, superdry xl t shirts are skin tight on my chest, shoulders and arms. with a fair bit of space round the belly) and ive got a pretty big gut(just it sticks out a fair bit less than my chest) weigh somewhere around 14.5 stone. stuff such as that commencal, and the kona kikapu etc are just too lightweight. i dont want to say freeride, as it gives the impression of hucking. All mountains a fair comment(5 inches travel, beefy rims, but will still climb) also as already said, im loving the 2/3 years 0% finance j.e james will give me, purely because it means ill be paying the same per month for the bike as my phone contract i just cancelled cost me. so anywhere offering for 2 years is really the only option. unless theres a total bargain to be had somewhere(i.e a significantly bigger bargain than j.e james bikes) just found on their site now, despite missing it for about a week. trek remedy 6 2006 Trek is that a real good spec for the money?? because i know nothing about xc bikes (i know sr suntour is generally crap, and alivio-deore-lx/hone-xt-xtr/saint is how the shimano groupset goes, understand the sram numbers, and can get a rough idea of what a bikes meant for by lookin at it). see i love the marin, for the fact its got fox forks. because when i used to have a vague interest in real mountain biking, they where new on the block, and cool, and £300+. so i assume im getting real good forks. but they could be utter toss now. likewise manitou nixons, i know manitou, but no nothing of the nixon brand? is it any good. or just cheap toss.
  22. everyone with half a brain(i.e everyone accept risk assessment+ health and safety) knows its wasting space and is very limiting. but im sure you will agree with me on the following points 1) its part of a trials park, gaps will be wanted/needed. 2)the park is going to have to be have public liability insurance as braintree trials said. (something which i think a few of us had taken into account, but it just hadnt been mentioned). and this is where you hit the sticky subject that makes for so much wasted space. health and safety brigade. as has already been stated at the bike show, none of the trials obstacles could be place within their own height of another obstacle in case they topple over/fall. expect no different here. Then expect those risk assessment people to come in, with the most pessismistic outlook on life ever and a measuring tape to boot. they will look at it like this "how likely is someone to fall off their bicycle while negotiating these obstacles? highly" see at the bike show, this wouldnt of been an issue, as everyone riding the demo will be at the skill level required, and also will have been made to sign liability waiver forms before they rode, clearing the organisers of any liability, should one of these people fall off. but at your trials park, anyman and his dog will be allowed to ride, with no skill level required, and no waiver form signed. they will then go, "say child A jumps to log 1, which is 3 foot high, at which point he loses his balance, he then falls in an unknown direction, from a 3 foot high obstacle. his standing height on the bike is 7 foot. so providing he falls off to the side, till his shoulders stop him hitting the ground, his head will be 7 foot away from the edge of the obstacle+ the 1 foot his bike moved in the 3 foot drop, thats 8 foot. you cannot place any obstacles within 8 foot of log 1" may sound crap, but its how it works, go look at a childs play ground, note how theres nothing in front of way in front of the slide, they view the worst case scenario(i.e the child sliding down the slide, till there feet are 2 foot in front of the slide, they go to their feet, the forward momentum stumbles them forward a further 2 foot, and they then fall flat on their face. with their face 8 foot away from the slide) same with the rubber flooring /bark extending for ages to the front and back of the slides, to the point that no matter how hard you jumped off the swing, youd never get to the grass/concrete. its about minimizing the risk of serious injury should the worst happen. and unfortunately this is quite likely to piss on your chips all through the project.
  23. no more so than a vehicle cam belt. which doesnt stretch at all really(maybe a few mm with time, but then tensioners take this up) wouldnt really see gearing being an issue. could do it one of two ways(that i can think of right now) 1) different sized belts, bearing in mind that the frames are going to be specifically made for it i should imagine, as are the rear hub pulley and front crank pulley(seems so odd saying crank pulley in a biking term) then theres only going to be need to have say 3 lengths of belt and 3 different rear pulleys. (say 1.29:1, 1.125:1, and 1:1) or one belt size, and youd buy front and rear pulleys as a set to match. (i.e a 50mm diameter rear pulley : 64 mm diameter front pulley, a 54: 60 pulley set, and a 57:57 pulley set) the length between the pulley centres never changes on a rigid frame(think bb and hub centre) and the total circumfrence of the two pulleys together never change. could work rather well actually, would expect to see a helical tooth belt though, due to the greater load transfer capacities of one(greater surface area of the teeth) and the fact that it self aligns. other than the freewheel wear, which could be horrendous if the belt was overtightened. and the resistance of turning the belt. most of the other point a are a plus point. wear on the pulleys/belt would be no where near as bad as chain wear/chainring wear. ( a camshaft pulley will turn something like 350 million times in the average life of a timing belt (often much higher, thats calculated on a 60,000 mile belt on a petrol engine), and you never hear of the surface/face of the pulley being the cause of cambelt failiure, and quite often their skipped on timing belt changes too so will often do double that)
  24. swearing on the internet, name calling, hey why dont you pm me a left hook while your at it. as for what you keep saying about the size of the land, i was going on what was given by iCharlie, as he was supposedly in the know about it. 1 definitive answer to the space you have, and what you can put in there, is all we need to give advice. charlie gives an area or 320 square metres or so. your giving an area of 1250 square metres, and somebody else is saying 1250 square metres, plus a hill side. i hope you can understand that when the area changes 400% in size within 2 posts, your going to be getting different replies, some of which are totally unsuitable. also iCharlie never mentioned no cars, never mentioned, that it wanted a natural look in keeping with a nature park to it. and mr braintree trials. up their on your moderately sized shetland pony of none shitness, if something is shit, you dont normally bother with it. tonights dinner looks shit, so im not bothering with it, eastenders is shit, im not going to watch it. this forums so shit to you, so why come on here. right now thats cleared up. to the only person whos so far given information and been civil on your park. kid creole: if your not allowed many none natural objects on there. then it is just logs, and rocks, then its up to you and your friends imagination+ the resources available. i.e are the logs going to be dumped down there, a jcb man moves them round for an hour, job done, thats the end of it, thats how it stays apart from the small bits you can move yourself. or are you gunna have a load of stuff dumped down there, given a couple of days to mull it over, then have 3 days with a bloke with a jcb and a chainsaw to come in and do what you want with it. also if its dumped, will you be abled to bring a suitably competent adult(i.e a willing parent for beer money) in with a chainsaw. to alter logs etc( as a 10 foot long, 2 foot diameter log aint that fun, but cuttin triangular points out of it say 18 inches- 2 foot apart. you suddenly get something thats a lot more fun/technical to try and hop along on the back wheel) if it is all logs and rocks, id suggest asking most kindly if you could have a small section(only a few metres each way) and say 30 pallets(perhaps with something to cover them in a natural colour, army style tarp etc, if they want it to look natural when not in use) as it really would mean you could practice your urban riding. taps. sidehops, gaps etc, much better, and there so useful to help you progress, moving the stacks 2-3 inches further apart, whackin an extra pallet on. and are useful for people of all abilities)/
  25. dont want to sound patronising, but... peaks and troughs, check out my post in the angry thread from this morning at 5am to see what i mean about the crap i been through this year, but itll get better, its got too. also look what youve still got/are getting. your still alive. youve still got a girlfriend, but then if you dont want one, your still plenty young enough to be single for a while till you want one. youve still got a driving license, and a decent car. youre going to have a uni degree(unless your drop out). then theres probably plenty of other positives youve got in your life, but im not gunna make assumptions(friends, your wealth to start with, etc)
