nah you dont have to use the bt router, however supposedly the new homehub3 is the dogs bollox(according to a bunch of reviews) i couldnt tell you cos i got a homehub 2, and its been pretty faultless yea you can use whatever router you want though. just have to ask bt for the settings(or find them on the web)

yea, pretty much, most likely be down to old copper cable supplying way more houses than it can handle. infinity is 40mbps, and like 4 years away for me:(

advice on stuff to check before you go ahead and order(im not going to give advice on who to go for, i work for bt, so am biased towards them, as theyve never ever let me down, in 3 years ive never once had a connection go down, i get 8mb download speeds, theyre download fair usage limit is 400gb a month currently) check what speed each ISP can deliver(jd it may be worth you checking this). Basically excluding the virgin fibre network(i.e the cable TV providers) everything runs through BT exchanges, companies rent the lines and equipment in the exchanges off BT.But some companies decide to only rent certain exchanges(more so in the cities) and not bother with others, to cut costs and they can still serve that area off another exchange by switching wires at the cab + exchange. now as a rule of thumb, the longer the wire from the exchange to the cabinet, and from the cabinet to the exchange, the slower the speed. what this means to you, is if you go with ISP A, who have chosen to rent lines and equipment from the exchange one down from yours, you may get slower speeds than off ISP B, who rent lines and equipment in your closest exchange. (but if you check on the BT website your line still says capable up to 8mb). for the general public in most instances this makes sod all difference for watching youtube and ebay, but obviously to yourself 3mbps - 8mbps is a big difference. for example my mate lives in an apartment complex in manchester, with a canal running parallel to it, cutting the 2 suburbs in half, unfortunately the only 2 companies who used his tiny exchange were bt and sky. the company he wanted to use (o2 as it made it super cheap with his phone contract) use the exchange on the other side of the canal, which is quite a distance due to the way its routed round the canal, and could only give him 0.5 mbps, as opposed to the 8mbps bt/sky would offer him.

Thanks for the replies, yea I've signed up for a Google music beta application via a vpn, just awaiting an invite. Kris, thanks, seems perfect, but doesnt that mean when I'm away from my network I've got bugger all? I like the way Apple works in as much as if it all fits it all syncs, if not you select what you want on there an you can change what you want whenever you can bring both devices together. An adding stuff to your itunes on iPhone means its there on your pc. I just want more than 1 "master library" I.e I can stick tunes off my netbook onto my phone when I'm away from home, but then do it with my desktop when I'm at home. An so far Google seems like the sensible option.

right, got a bit of an issue for you here. for the last 7/8 years ive used itunes, as it works, i stick my music on itunes, i plug my ipod into my pc, everything matches up and im away. However it doesnt work as well as id like it to. basically i currently have a netbook and a desktop. all my music is on my netbook, however decided its about time i stick it all on my desktop, which i could do with the aid of a usb hard drive and a couple of spare hours. but the trouble is, despite itunes being brilliant at syncing an ipod with itunes thats about it. I have an android phone, syncing it requires add ons/a ballache. If I download an album on my netbook, I then have to re download an album on my desktop. If I want to change playlists/put a new album on my ipod, I have to plug it into the pc it was originally synced too. I cant just plug it into my netbook to grab the new album on that, as it'll want to delete all the stuff on my ipod and start again. im looking at getting a tablet pc, and obviously id have the same issues. what id like is a program/solution that means I can add music onto one device, and it will automatically sync and stick it on the others(i don't mind having to wait till i get home and syncing them all over wifi). forget i've got an ipod as that can be chucked if need be, its only for gym use. been looking at cloud solutions, but nothings really looking ideal(apart from google music, but its not even officially out in the UK for testing right now). cloud would be a nice touch, providing it would let me download playlists/albums to a device for offline listening, buts its not essential, all I want is something that can share a library across 2/3 windows based computers and sync them to a phone, a tablet pc, and possibly an mp3 player at the touch of a button, or by plugging in. is there anything that can do this, closest thing I've seen is the icloud, but that means the tablet pc is going to be £200 dearer than it needs to be(64gb ipad vs a 32gb eee pad transformer and a 32gb micro sd card), and would mean getting an iphone for everything to work, and even then I'm not sure if it would allow me to have an offline library that I could add to without using the itunes store, across a desktop pc, a netbook, and most likely soon a laptop.

red ones. erm, used to be cars, but ive got a lil bored of them. engineering in general fascinates me. other than that like to go swing a few dumbells, skiing, motorbikes, getting rattled on a weekend.

Fish-Finger-er replied to Has anyone seen my shoe?'s topic in Chit Chat
me an fish came down sarffend,i wasnt on top form, got kicked out of a pub after drinking half a bottle of jager, a couple of double vodkas and a pint of old rosie, but they didnt kick me out, they let me get a coke and sit down till we were ready to leave. then went an got in a club, and when we got kicked out of there it was because john wasnt wearing shoes, we then went back to simps, i got windmilled, but it was semi through choice, we all got naked, fish put deepheat on his bollox, awful photos were taken. thats the abridged version. -

I wish i was in "this place" it sounds like kavos/magaluf, just without the weather or somalian hookers. -
pretty much what si man said, only thing id be tempted to do, rather than an araldite shim, is 1 bolt right through. drill and tap a couple of small threaded holes in the kee klamp in the way it would want to shift, (i.e on a horizontal pipe, id put the bolt through horizontally) then drill and tap vertically, and just use a couple more bolts to pinch the aluminium tube to stop it moving up and down(and also to clamp it slightly) regards internal spacers in the aluminium tube, i think itd be easier to fix a permanent solid plastic/wooden bung in the end of the pipes (say 3 inches long)( thinking maybe polymorph for ease of use, or just wood, as its easy to turn down to size) glued into the end, then the hole drilled through the aluminium pipe and the bung. stops the pipe ovalizing/would solve the issue of the grub screws crushing the pipe etc.

are drug dealers not businessman?

yea but if your 8 months in, you can either pay the remaining £80 and cancel it, or just let a family member use it for the 4 months for free. if you spent £200 on a phone, and you get a sim only deal for £10 a month, over 9 months thats cost you £290. if you spent £50 on the phone, then £20 a month for 12 months, thats cost you £290, so if you stay more than 9 months your saving money, if not, its costing you more(but if a family member could make use of the contract once you go, you can probably recoup the lost cash). also if you dont ruin the phone, itll be worth cash at the end(but thats with either phone)

woah woah woah, bold overstatement there, i saw one, wanted one, got hold of one for an hour, and wanted to throw the twirly screened, jack of all trades, master of none at the wall. I can only assume the jack that knew all the trades they were basing it on, had severe learning difficulties, and only 1 arm. Seriously I really liked the idea, but it was awful, the experience was akin to using a £150 netbook for the laptop, and like using a cheap £90 chinese tablet. The technology in it was all good in theory, but in practice, the touchscreen was really buggy when used on anything but solitaire. (for example i had music playing, msn open, and was browsing photos and it all took a good few seconds to respond. only none apple tablet i really like the look of is the asus eee pad transformer. only advise i have, is i really enjoy using them, but do find there not all that after a few hours, unless youve got a train/bus based commute, or have loadsa free time at home. the novelty wore off, and i realised just how little use id probably get out of one.

yea its really noticeable on mine, also seems to handle better with regards to being able to feel exactly when the grips going to break away. my tyres have been sealed since mid april last year at a guess, and the there still good(although as said i havent used the latex sealant everyone uses, i used that oko stuff, because if it failed, id of had other uses for it, but its been fine)

ive done the ghetto tubeless way, cost me about £11 all in, and wouldnt go back to tubed again, im a big guy, and ride rocky terrain used to pinch flat semi often, (generally id get a slow puncture from heather/brambles, but not realise, and then id hit a rock and snakebite it) probably done 400 miles on the set up i got now, i still got 90% of my sealant left. and the bmx inner tube as rim tape will last for years. id of spent more than that on 26" tubes in the mean time. Only thing is if your leaving the bike for 3 months+ (i got glandula fever to the point of being on an IV in hospital for 5 days) they do seap a small amount of air and over that time the pressure drops so you end up having to reseal the tyre and reinflate, but its not an issue really, took 10 minutes to redo. and its good to go again alternatively just top the pressure up when it drops 10 psi or so (5-6 weeks) but youd generally check pressures more often than that anyway. sealant + 2 bmx tubes, preferably the type with threaded valves and lock nuts. job done. seems to work as well as the latex sealant and is way cheaper. less rolling weight no pinch flats no punctures no need to carry a puncture repair kit. I still keep 2 spare tubes in my bag, but i havent had to use them yet, before now ive cut a 25 mile ride short due to going through the 3 spare tubes i had in about 6 miles.

as pretty much everyone else has said, i work in a garage environment, all my tools are generally lifetime guarantee stuff, so if stuff breaks, i get it replaced(the issue with buying snap on online is returning it) I have 1 snap-on tool, and thats a trim removal tool, id get an alternative make, but this was on offer so i got it. Other than that ive got taskmaster, beta, and a bit of sealey and facom stuff. really dont see the point in snap-on gear, i dont really break an awful lot, with the money ive saved i can afford to have a spare set, and also, my main issue, if i lose something, its still lost, no matter how good that lifetime guarantee is. in my own tool bag for home(work pay for all my gear for there, so price isnt an issue) my ratchet set is forge steel. the screwfix own brand, theyve had a fair bit of abuse, and they havent broken yet. I keep meaning to get some halfords tools, but there completely the other side of town and my beta dealer is 100m from work.

mapdroyd. i also had a satnav i got from a questionable source, for android, which kinda did a similar job. Navfree may be worth a look, ive never tried it out mind.

taking the wiper blades off from a MkIV VW Golf?
Fish-Finger-er replied to ManxTrialSpaz's topic in Chit Chat
the blades should just clip out, the arms that hold them on, take the nut off, obviously, tap the side of the arm pretty hard a few times, then just try and work it, failing that, you can buy a wiper arm puller for like £5-10. which hooks behind the arm and presses onto the spindle to pull it off. ive done it before myself levering a screwdriver against a plate of steel held on the glass to spread the load, but im not going to advise this is, as its a sure fire way to ruin the screen. -
if its a pay as you go phone, insure it your parents name, theres no way theyll know whose phone it is, if its a contract phone, well you shouldnt have one till your 18 either.

which trails did you ride? I find i agree with you on the tarw trail(the old red bull trail) but the beast/devils back etc, I find them really enjoyable, theyve got long flowy bits(only thing is theres a couple of switchbacks i always assume are bermed and go into them way too fast, but thats the issue with llandegla, everything is bermed, so its too easy) then theres other bits which your meant to take slow. Although i suppose the fact ive rode them several times means I know where I need to slow down/where i can put in a few pedal strokes, and that I dont notice them as much. With regards to llandegla again, im absolutely shoddy on a bike, but as i said as far as trails are concerned, theres nothing at all difficult, the free ride area has one thing which makes me go "hmmm, ill air some caution into that" and thats the 3rd drop off, but im sure a lot of that is the fact that you pick up a lot of speed off the 2nd one. time wise, im not the slowest on the downhills, but im also not very quick on the uphills. but use these times as a guide. llandegla - 1 hour 40,to do all the blacks (but quite often they cut off 5 minutes or so as a section is quite often shut) Ive down it in 1 hour 24 before, but thats knowing the trail, and i was giving it some serious pasty that night) coed y brenin - mbr trail - 1 hour 45 to complete. dragons back- 2 hours 45. beast- i wouldnt like to say, ive done it 4 hours 15, but that was sheer grit and stupidity pitted against an awful fitness level, time isnt related to skill, its all about endurance, marin trail - took me around 3 hours i think, but its a while since ive rode it.
-
my problem with the marin trail, and llandegla, are that there is little danger/difficulty there. Because there totally man made, quite busy, and quite well maintained, the trails are all smooth, almost bmx track esque, corners are often bermed etc. And there all to easy to just go flat out down, I was up llandegla last weekend, first time back on the bike in like 7 months, and it just seemed soo easy to go flat out. With places like coed y brenin, yes its man made, but a lot of the trails are 10+ years old from the days of the red bull/karrimor trails up there, so apart from the new bits around the centre(even some of that isnt easy, due to being big slabs of rock, with no grip in the wet), which are in slight states of disrepair (the tarw trail or whatever theyve branded the red bull trail as now especially) but its also from a time when mtbing wasnt so popular, so the trails were aimed more at mtbers than the weekend warriors out from the city on their £3000 bike with no clue. Theres nothing trail wise on llandegla(even the 13k extreme downhill bit as you put it) I wouldnt take a novice on a rented bike on. But theres bits at say coed y brenin(using it as i know it, but i remember other trails being the same) I.e after the first long climb on the beast, where you jump onto a bit of a rocky uphill singletrack for a bit, then back onto the fireroad. where you go up onto a rocky outcrop with a short, but steep rocky descent, that I still find a mission to get down in the wet now with several years of trials experience, and a lot longer being a youth hitting jumps.
