  1. @Mark W I did read all that but if I interpret correctly the too long... version is that all tories are f**kwited thunderc**ts that only look after themselves, their mates and the big corps (not mutally exclusive) using the power of 'running' the country to do so, and screwing we the people over as collateral. Agreed. But that's what politiciains do. And I thought all goverment being shit was a given too - you just essayed a comprehsive list of examples as it happens, so what, in a concise opinion, makes a load of people in brussels any better? (kind of circling back to why in?? question) The divides were already there, it just needed a catalyst. Same with the markets. If you're an investment bank with too much sterling in the vault and you want to make some quick coin, dump a load of theoretical fiftyies on to the market, use the proceeds to buy a smaller amount of other currency, sit on that, laugh like a bond villian for a bit as the world gets turned over and the news channels go nuts, now buy a load of cheap GBP, wait out the storm and sell now valueable £ for a 2nd f**king hooge profit. All you need is a public event to blame it on and your golden. Pretty much works for any commodity or any world event. @jeff costello 'I hate wastefulness' would mean that I'm the kind of person where everything has two lives, everything can be repurposed, and, in things mechanical especially, If I come to to the conclusion that something is f**ked, then something really is done for. But even then I'll be looking for something to scavenge off it before it hits the scrap pile to fester for a bit, just in case a situation arises where that something is now slightly useful again, before getting tipped/weighed in to be recycled. Now juxtapose that against the massive cloud of irrevelent useless hot air being spouted in that chamber today, & presumibly every other sitting, using untold resource, with absolutely sweet FA being accomplished as a result. And in my idil it doesn't have to be 'big industry' to class as making shit - I have faarr more respect for man-in-shed-with-lathe-miller-and-welder type cottage industry. Think micro breweries, but making anything from made by hand sand cast then cnc'd barrels for a Suzuki T20 or TR500 (google them, a cause close to my heart) to people like Morgan or BAC where there's about 20 peeps working for em. EU rules seek type aproval and other hoops to be jumped through for all this stuff, styfulling creativity, talent, individualism and macro economical growth (JCB agree) all so the slanted rules can give favour to VAG, Merc, Beemer, Porsche, Renault-Nissan, Peugeot, Citroen. The big players in the EU are? Germany, France, and kinda by proxy Italy, since Audi bought Ducati as a backdoor handout. You can call me a trog all you want but I just don't trust big buisness in any form (even if I do want some of their cars) and the goverments that protect them, especially in the case of a trade project gone rampant. How many tiers of useless organisations used as means for people in tailored suits to argue endlessly does the world need?
  2. That's actually the kind of poe faced image I have of the remoaners, since I have not personally met anyone yet that wanted in. Not sure what point you're driving at @jeff costello, no doubt it's nicely satirical, or simply insulting, but since it's bringing a smile to my face it's all good craic & water of a ducks back. I can't help it if I'm an old man at 23 and cynical as f**k, that's the way life's moulded me. Edit: Can't help but see a resemblance to Dougie Lampkin in that guys face, once you get rid of the tash of course.
  3. Trawling back a few posts I know but I feel like sticking my 2p in. As I said on the last page, I couldn't think of a single reason to vote in - Most seem to be outpouring the "if it's not broke don't fix it" - Bollocks. Throughout history there has always been people who have gone "arh this is alright eh?", stereotypically middle to upper class poshies who inheirted some form of leg up in life, no matter how minor that may have been; and those going "well this is f**kin shit int it?", stereotypically those who are or believe to be getting shafted with a scaffy pole by the first lot... Beyond that I did not feel eu membership was personally gaining me, or anyone I care for, anything positive. I hate wastefullness of all kinds. Watching 20mins of beurocracy and bullshit speeches from the brussels parliament when it was live on lunchtime telly today did nothing but reinforce my view about the 200+ pr1cks sat there in that chamber leeching x million quid/euro a year is nothing more than a septic leg that needs to be amputated before it kills the rest of the being. I can't be doing with it. Ain't this the truth, mores the pity. I want an economy built on, well, building and making stuff, not a load of millionare arseholes in the city playing god and then stashing a cheeky percentage in a personal 'don't tell anyone' nest egg in the caymans or panama. My dad voted the last time and still believes Harold Wilson and co duffed the count George Bush Jr style so as to get the result he needed to save his own skin. Frankly there is nothing to say that this didn't happen this time round - maybe cameron's missus figures that tony blair's doing alright jack tossing off his prime ministers' pension out in dubai and wanted a change of scenery? Mam voted because she's as anti beurocracy and bs as I am.
  4. Sometime the week or weekend before the vote me & two of my mates were having a general craic. The subject came up and I summised that although i wasn't that bothered about making the trip down the polling station (I did though), on the face of it I couldn't see one reason - good/bad/indifferent - to vote in, and would love to meet someone local who was, to genuinely ask them, why?? (because ultimately your location will sway your view I felt asking someone not from this area, not from this walk of life and not facing the same issues in life would make the answer somewhat irrelevent) I don't mean in angry way or with any tone at all, just ask the question out of utter bemusement. I did a quick straw poll with said friends and they said they couldn't (& nor could I) think of one person they knew that was voting in, which left leave, or those just not bothering, which in any other vote is where I have always set up shop. I reckon we were pretty on the money. And If the hulking great vacuous juggernaut that the EU has become implodes as I feel it could/will, we want to be a spectator going "Haah shoulda bailed people", not one of the ones mixed up in the shitstorm, surely??
  5. Though spending a bit more on some performance motorbike/car DOT wouldn't do any harm either. After all, you want the best for your nice posh bike, right?
  6. I remember seeing a bike pic thread saying the 24in one was good, so I bought one for the front of the mod in the jan sales for £7.50 sent. Win. When it turned up however it was tiny, stated as 1.95in but that's BS even on a more standardised 25mm rim. On a 39mm section rim it was nearer 1.75in wide and had no volume - looked like something you'd put on a Brompton or similar. If memory serves the 24in is available in a wider size, get that one, cos I've owned 4 schwalbe tyres and just like a lot of tyre peeps they can't measure for toffee. I've found Maxxis to be the only one I can trust in that respect. I run a Schwalbe table top on the front of the fourplay. The wear rate is is a bit less to the time it takes to wear out the 2.4 holy roller on the back, it's a touch smaller width and volume, grip is pretty meh - after it grubs in it won't kill you but it's no contil black chili; but it's 600g with a wire bead (there was a kevlar bead option too last I checked) , getting on for 200g less then a holy roller off the front end really makes a difference to whole bike handling.
  7. Raceface's system has a tapered spline, which wears much like isis, and requires a puller to remove the cranks. Before committing money myself, I read multiple (like 30+) reviews saying that the tapered RF system had/has machining faults relating to the spline being far too tight an interference fit (subsequently had 1st hand experience of this) and the axle being too long, resulting in the crank bolt bottoming out, and, like running isis or sq taper with a loose bolt, a set of completely fubard cranks. Oh and MTBers bitch about the bb's having crap life too. I'm far from a Shimano fanboy, but HT2 does not have any of these problems so IMO the HT2 system is the best out there. In relation to the OP, I've some older style M660 triple chainring version for the MTB (beware of the double ring and bash specific versions of SLX, they are beefier for abuse but I was advised that they give weird chainline, this would still apply to a trial bike) then bought for another build a set of m760 XT cranks which I believe are still on there original BB, and am currently searching for a 3rd set. Given that the truvativ setup is outdated, heavy and requires the proprietary howitzer BB, swapping to any of the Hollowtech 2 cranks would be night and day difference. However, SLX (in triple ring configuration) are definitely the pick of the range. If you feel you need more strength maybe look at zee or saint? Honestly think that'd be unnecessary for trials duty though. EDIT: In relation to crank length, think of it like this, 170mm will put your feet closer together, which in turn will put your arse higher in the air, since the effective length of your legs has got longer. Advantageous for back wheel control. I've also used this on my mod to give a false feel of higher BB rise. 175mm will do the opposite. But the cranks will turn slower when pedalling, which does feel quite good doing pedalup backwheels, and you potentially have more leverage over the 170mm's. Personally I find being stood lower in the bike to be a disadvantage, and in this case of a relatively low bb rise, the feeling of the frame top tube and seat between your knees, pretty disgusting - like stood up pedalling a mtb with the seat slammed. There just a restriction of movement.
  8. In more positive news Michael Dunlop just covered 37.74miles in 16mins 58secs. Twice. Consecutively. From a standing start. With a Superbike race record for good measure. Nice.
  9. So I've sat down at my desktop, turned off the hard drives, booted a linux from DVD (because read only), pulled up a proxy and then came on here. Clicked the link and as it turns out that appgeeker is legit (well not spam anyway). They've got the fairly standard set of open source DVD creator, Blu ray burner DVD ripper, File converter etc. A quick google and more than a few of forum posts can't recommend it enough. It'll go on the list but I fear it's still malware. The googleing appgeeker has found me a forum that says that Davinci resolve 12 has a free version? Would anyone recommend that enough, free or paid, to be worthwhile looking at? Also, Gopro has a free editor? Is it any good?? @bikeperson45 Cheers, but did you not have the same experience as I did where NCH Software spam your start menu (so subsequently your c/:programs folder) with irremovable cluttery junk? The Videopad program itself was good; a movie maker clone with a couple more features and nothing to do with the people at the flying kite. The constant pop up messages and the clog folders were too much for me though; had to format and reinstall the OS just to get rid. Current shortlist to research further are Lightworks free, Premiere CS5.5, Vegaspro, Cyberlink power director, Davinci Resolve free, Gopro editor and I found some posts about this near clone of premiere called Blender. This appgeeker video editor comes in easy and full versions, it could be good, but I'd have to download it to find out; and I simply don't trust the site. Opinions and suggestions please, I am reading them. Cheers, Ciaran.
  10. This was the type of answer I was after. As i hinted to above It's not that I lack the ability to rip premiere/vegas/other off of somewhere but that ultimately I may not be a need to go down that route because there could viable alternatives, Cheers. EDIT: Unless you're spambot, in which case go away
  11. Ta very much. Since I'm not doing vids for money I probs only need what you call the basic end of things, but I figure what'll do a lot'll do a little, & I want to make this decision once and forever (within reason). I desperately want to escape my vid's editing looking like a [insert godawful boyband name here] lyric video made by a 12yo girl who's channel staple is her squarking into a hairbrush to her favourite 'songs' (generic autochoooned top40 sh*te).
  12. When it comes to searching google for premiere I see a premier elements version, a premiere CSx and a premiere CSx pro version. And likewise with vegas 9, there appears to be a pro version of that. Which version should i be going after? I still maintain that (to quote The Who) there's got to be another way. Lightworks for example. It's not that i'm incapable of acquiring stuff off download sites, or arguing with the suggestion that I should do so; I started this topic already in full knowledge this was the path i would be ultimately forced to choose. However if I am going to learn how to use a specific editor and it's quirks; I want to know that I considered all options and made an informed decision to pick the 'right' one, which of course, is totally subjective. What programs did you peeps try on the way to concluding that your chosen program was the best for you? If anything It'll give me a list of stuff to avoid during looking through yet more 'Top 10 best freeware video editors' type lists & articles. I seriously did think there might been a completely legit option I hadn't considered.
  13. I read this a while ago after spending a morning doing my own research - unless things have changed you couldn't actually download the program from adobe, just the licence. It's so you could re-install a shop bought CD copy of CS2 without having to bother adobe for the authentication/service code type thing, since it's now that old. Exactly... I hoped there would be a good alternative to having to bounce my IP around thailand or wherever and then sketchly gleaning my chosen program off some torrent. I dislike torrents. Torrents are my absolute last port of call, not my first. Nothing personal. Is that literally my option then? Longarm it when no one's looking? I thought there might be some nice software out there that wasn't *cough* borrowed and didn't have any strings attached, and I'd missed it.
  14. Before I even contemplate putting this video together, I'm in need of an alternative to WMM. From last time I've upgraded my camera, my computer setup and become the most competant with computers n stuff that I have ever been, and now i want a better finished product from my videos to show for it - instead of being 'the best I could do at the time', I want 'the best that I could do' and to be proud of the result - If that makes sense. The editor must be free to use, I'm only doing vids for my own personal enjoyment after all & preferably open source. It also doesn't need to be a full version with every last bell and whistle, so long as it's a good freeware full of good features and all the features that are there work straight away, and work forever. I want something way more pro than movie maker, but definately non of that rubbish where after downloading you find that to access features beyond previewing your unedited files you can "upgrade to PRO for just $29.95!" - That sh1t can go fck itself. I also previously downloaded an editor that was part of a complete suite of open source software, from file converters to sound editors, and it was a package deal that stealthily put a sh*t ton of folders in the start menu which were all links to the makers website. It was effectively a virus, since they were undeleteable, and eventually I took the decision to format the hard drive and reinstall the OS - I'd really like to avoid any kind of that faff again. I've found a more than suitable candidate that works on the basis where you register and get a rolling 30day licence [EDIT: Turns out it's 7 days - ok but not ideal as it forces a deadline], which so long as the basis of the idea works like they say it will Im ok with because the program is the muts nuts (perhaps too much so, It's pro as f**k and can do anything you can ever imagine but christ the learning curve is steep) but I'm not ecstactic about the idea of them having my personal info. If anyone has any ideas and prefrably suggestions post 'em up please. Cheers, Ciaran.
  15. @DeeDougie I'm only on a small screen (little 10.1in HP netbook) but on the face of it there's naff all wrong with that bike. Bike is an a3 as you know, from around 2007, with the the rest of the build from around 2007 also - Echo urban rims, Echo team stem, echo lite forks & the (hens teeth to have a matching pair) old style echo hubs etc date it very well. Trialtech stuff started coming in around 2009ish so it's been built with the intention of being ridden properly and had a bit of coin spent to modernise it a touch along the way, like the kenda smallblock8 front tire, but it's likely been sitting for a couple of years. Geo from memory was 1030wb,+55bb,362cs, 72deg head angle. Things to watch for are cracks generally- have a good long look around the dropouts and seatstay welds, around the bb, and at the join of the headtube and downtube. Echo lite forks were never the strongest so check them too - look for tell tale white stress marks around the echo logo, and check all welds meticulously. If it's been run without a brake booster that it is also a concern, the rear brake repeatedly flexing the seatstays promotes stress fractures and ultimately cracks a frame at the seatstay/toptube weld. If you buy it a brake booster is a must, even if does nothing for stiffness at the brake lever you need to tie the brake mounts together. Dents aren't such a worry as it would be in a modern piss thin frame, but still not good. Personally I would ditch the front brake in favour of an Avid BB5 or BB7 with an Avid SD7 lever, and find a magura lever for the rear brake. Other than that it is a rare clean example of a frame that was built to be ridden hard, (and were, so got bashed Alot) with a strong spec full of quality old parts, so grab it!
  16. b*****d won't edit again... Anyway, I've still got the headlights, and they look like they could be wired up to actually light up, but IDK and that stuff is beyond me. I'll get a tape now and get dimensions, but it's a fair old thing like, and pretty rigid too. Actually I've still got the rest of the car to go with the shell too. Thought maybe someone could do something with it as despite intentions, I clearly haven't. EDIT: Inside bumper to bumper measures 560mm at shortest point, widthways is 210mm at narrowest point, wheelbase is approx. 340mm c-c and the track is 250mm across the inside of the arches.
  17. Someone asked where the RC thread was? Ermm, well by complete fluke... Found it! The reason, well I wondered if this generic shell (that I think has a likeness to a mk4 supra with a nissan arse) I've had littering the same spot on my floor for, ooo, gonna plum for at least two years, would be any good to anyone? Give me a sec while I unearth it, dust it off and take a pic or two...
  18. @niconj Firsty on preload (pause at 0.11) your wrists look at a weird angle cause (IMO) your brake levers need to come up a mm or 2mm. It will have felt fine beforehand with the upright stance but now your losing pop because its now restricting how far your front wheel drops down. That'll be most of the weirdness. And secondly... Well, style is obviously subjective, so you'll have to study the vids back to back a couple of times and make your own decision. I think once you get over the the weirdness it will feel better, meaning you'd commit properly not take your foot off and boss it Personally I'd say the 2nd vid is way better, and that I'd try the same thinking on gaps as well, I bet you've probably improved there too and not even realised. I mean I can tell from the vid you were hesitant and you pissed over the height you were struggling at in the other vid by like an inch already, when it felt weird and shit, so in trial rider maths thats like a 2inch improvement
  19. I just googled rising sun performance review... This is the 1st reply from the 1st topic I found. The guy was looking for a HKS ECU unlock. "Rising sun used to deal mainly in skylines and nobody i know with skylines will let them remap anything. There are many stories on the forums of bad service blown engines bad maps etc the have changed names a couple of times to shake the past. Abbey motorsport is where all the people i know go so may be worth speaking to them. Hope that helps as i said google rising sun performance and look through some of the skyline owners threads for more info" So they sound like a quality legit place then... EDIT: by which anyone that changes trading names to escape repeated bad rap throws up a red flag in my book; not to mention someone who deals in something that the requires as much trust as letting someone work on something as rare/advanced/precious as a skyline - it's hardly a Corsa A now is it? If you screw the eyeballs out of an RB when mapping it or put the AFR in the 15s or some stupid crap like that, the owner can't just go get another one from the scrappy for £20 and slap it in there. And not tightening stuff up then sending it down the road is just unforgivable.
  20. This is the funniest vid I've watched in a while...And it pretty much somes up the ordeals of working on pretty much anything mechanical - bikes, cars, motorbikes, my dad's '96 sprinter van...as well as cheap off brand crappy tools and mates taking the piss. As I said, I find it very funny, but it's very sweary, so you might someone come in going "what are you watching?" Give it a look. It's pasted in massive and I can't resize...
  21. The best way. A normal local bike shop that can conceive the in's and out's of trial bikes is a rare thing. The usual outcome is "yeah we know how to do that, no problem" and then they illogically f**k it up somehow. There's a tutorial on tartys if you get in the workshop & have a brain fart half way through. Just remember the key is clamping the tool to the FW & a leverage pole with constant, even pressure, NOT tw**ting your crank with a hammer!
  22. From a techincal sense, nothing. It's an easier way of balancing, hopping and turning around on the backwheel, especially when overly upright/vertical, but it's no good for power. What I feel you are not taking into account in that pic is that the bike is on the low side of the balance point, i.e. the front wheel is trying to drop and the rear wheel roll backwards, with body weight/position being used as a conterweight and slight pedal pressure being applied. In your clip you were above the BP & weren't counterweighting the front end weight. It's something I've noticed that people do when they've just learned how to sit on the backwheel (especially when self taught), or they are small with less weight, like a young rider, or that they've only ever learned that way (again usually self taught) & it's never been pointed out before. Also having watched yer man ride in person, he's the best preload technique I can think of, putting loads of energy into compressing the rear tyre, and on that day doing 50in+, sometimes to back wheel, with a well blown Echo SL FW. The V2 he had in blackpool had an extra kg of weight in tube thickness over the production one, mainly in the downtube, so it didn't rip in half, actually like how my mates production V2 died - it peeled open backwards like a ringpull, mid sidehop preload. Sidehops and doing gaps still at somepoint mean straightening your arms, bending your knees and tucking down to the tyre, no way round it. Short version: He's got his arse over the rear axle and the front end low, in that clip above you have your arse aligned with the brake booster and the front end too high with the bars into your belly, and you trying to teabag your topcap. It's all losing preload tuck!
  23. @niconj May I make an observation? You need to make a conscious effort straighten your arms, move your weight backwards and bend your knees when you are on the back wheel. Currently you have (in the video above) straight legs with your arms bent in what I have christened a 'turkey arms' position (as in the bird, not the country), which is causing you to balance the bike on the high side of the balance point, which is causing the correction pedalling & hops. In conjunction, I would also strongly suggest that you move your brake lever angle upwards. This will lower the front wheel, increasing rear wheel control, balance, and overall power. From what i have seen when I mention this in person, people then naturally start tucking down towards the centre-rear of the bike, which is the part that compresses the tyre on preload. This in turn sees results in sidehop height and gapping abilty within a ride or 2. It's not like your technique is bad as it is, but they are the things that scream out at me, when watching that clip, as limiting factors.
