Ok yes, that line was a bit over the top, but you know what I mean. It does still seem like owning a Mac is more of an "experience" than just a computer. Anyway ignoring from that comment (that was just the PC in me screaming out I think). But if I'm going to do that.... why don't I just buy the better specced PC? Seems rather foolish to buy a more expensive lower spec machine, then run windows on it anyway. I only use the desktop for photos and video, so if I have the windows software installed on it, I have no reason to boot into Mac mode. As for space... its not exactly taking up less space though. I' bed using the same sized monitor, with a keyboard and mouse. The only difference is I dont have a tower in my desk, but its hardly in my way.

The problem I have is, I don't know any one locally to me who has a Mac with all the software to have a play with. I can only mess about with the one in PC world, which has no software on it. The style of the keyboard and mouse alone annoyed me so much I ended up walking away from it in a disgruntled fashion after only a few minutes. I like premier (although vastly prefer the old 6.5 compared to CS3) and it does mostly what I want it to do. I've heard great things about FCP and would love to give it a proper try, however without forking out what could be in excess of 2grand, its not possible. From what I've been told, the Mac I can stretch to (the £1200 24" iMac) doesn't have a seperate graphics card therefore won't handle editing HD. I don't know whether this is true or not, but seems like a major limiting factor in spending that amount of money, compared to the equivilent PC. I also don't think I'm ready to be part of the "fashion and lifestyle" trend. I think I'm 99.99% sure I've made my mind up, and will be going for the/a Dell system. I'm used to PCs, I know my way round them already, its a vastly better spec compared to the Mac, and I already own all the necessary software that I require. I'm not too concerned about ordering from Dell, as we order aproximately 1000 PCs and laptops from them each year with no issues, so I have a good level of trust with them.

I don't download stuff anymore, I even buy my music. And how is moving stuff illegal? I've paid to own the rights to the program, to use on whatever PC I own. The Dell PC I listed above has a 24" monitor, keyboard and mouse (and the keyboard is a lot more comfortable looking than the Mac one) and £300 cheaper...
-
But the factor is, its still around £300 more than the PC, and I can't work out any reasonable explanation as to why. Once I've spent £1200, I still need to buy Photoshop, Premier or FCP, whereas I already have what I need for the PC.

I have thought about that. I'm currently running 2 19" widescreens, and I do kinda like having the 2. The thing for me is space, as the 2 19"s only just fit. One 24" would fit nicely and provide plenty of screen for the timelines and preview windows. I'm not fussed about games. I use my desktop 99% of the time for editing photos and HD video. It just seems like I'd be paying over the odds to have the badge and all the "fashion" and "lifestyle" applications and features. I had a play on one earlier in PC world, and the hideous flat keyboard and mouse alone pretty much put me off them.

Thing is with something like that, its £660. A 24" HD monitor is a good £300. Its got a smaller HDD, less Ram, no Blu-ray drive, no Windows. Cheers for the link Danny, I shall have a spec on that one. Even if I substitute a few things like 1tb hard drive rather than 2 etc. Oh and sorry Muel, I'm not trying to come across as a 'tard just being fussy.
-
I was only prepared to stretch to 1200 if I were to buy the Mac, I wasn't overally keen on spending that much. That dell system is already a damn good spec for the price, plus I don't have to worry about sourcing the bits seperately and building it etc.
-
Oh yea I knew what you meant. I just don't think I'd be able to buy all that stuff seperatly, for less than that.
-
The Dell system is with a 20% discount, so I don't think I'd be able to get the price any lower than that elsewhere. Cheers for the responces so far, pretty much what I wanted to hear. Like i said, I really really dislike Apple. I don't know why exactly, theres just something about them. I don't like paying over the top for a fashion statement. Its why I don't own an i-pod or an i-phone etc.

I know there are a few Mac threads about, but this isn't really a "Mac problem", so apologies if this has been asked before. Basically I'm going to be buying a new machine in a week or so, but I'm really torn as to which route to take. I've never ever been a big fan of Apple and the fashion etc, however for my needs (editing photos and HD video), people seem to suggest a Mac is the better option for me. I'm looking to spend around £1000-£1200 tops on one, which will just about get me a 24" 2.66ghz dual core Mac with 4gb ram and a 640gb hard drive. At the other end of the spectrum, I've managed to spec up a PC with a 2.4ghz quad core, 8gb ram, 2tb hard drive, blu-ray player with a 24" widescreen HD monitor for £900 from Dell. Is having a Mac, which seems a considerably lower spec than the PC, really worth the extra £300, and will it give me £300 worth of benefits? I would also have to re-buy my Adobe software which means spending more money. Alternatively should I buy the PC and spend the £300 I've saved on beer and hookers? Thanks Andy Poll added for JT

will be a 25mm BB drop then
-
Are they 24" or 26" wheels?? If they are 24" wheels, then 304mm is a 0mm rise. If they are 26" wheels, then 304mm is a 25mm drop
-
304mm is the BB height, not the rise. The BB rise is the difference up from the wheel axel. The BB height is the Radius of the wheel + the BB rise

Lovin' the white walls! That was awesome, got a really nice style to his riding compared to brain bleech.
-
I really don't understand anyone who looks at those tyres and thinks "hmmm yes they will look lovely" After a few weeks of riding, they are going to look absolutely disgusting Rest of the bike looks good though
-
Oh yeah I totally agree that its possible to do it yourself, but not everyone has the tools and patience to do it properly. Plus I wouldn't want to take a big drill to my brand new 50 quid rim incase something went wrong. If the choices were there for people, we wouldn't have to resport to that kinda thing.
-
I'd just stop at that point.

Providing its past 7 days and within 45, you can log a case on paypal.

The Revell rims aren't being made any more (well yet anyway until the new redesigned ones come out) and Tarty only have Gold in stock which is not to everyones choice. The other 2 arent drilled rims which some people who are concerned with weight like to run, so I wouldn't say thats a "fair bit of choice" compared to what's available in 32 hole.
-
I don't want to come across too negative, however last time I bought anything off Sniffhost I got the same thing, and it was never setup. I waited several weeks, I sent multiple emails asking why and got no replys and requested to have my money back, which I'm still waiting for over a year down the line.
-
Exactly. Dave and myself both run a profile on the rear, which are 36 hole. Its a pain trying to source rims when there are no decent rims out there that are 36 hole. Its not we're just being awkward on purpose

No they're not.... Verwood is where we rode a few weeks back with Marshall. We rode in Ferndown...
