So, I'm thinking about taking a hack saw to my Adamant brake booster, and making it 2 bolt instead of 4. I find that it's too stiff(brake makes no noise, I've tried 3 different brake pads on 2 different grinds), and taking a bit of weight off would be nice. Would it be a dumb idea to do this? anyone else tried it?

I would guess that it's the same as a koxx frame...koxx owns yaabaa...so you'd probably still have to use their hub.
-
Yeah...I'll give it a shot.

Geeze, no problems with my front dob up until today. Landed a bail crappy, and Taco time!
-
Well, I just taco'd my DOB front wheel...and I have a spare rear sitting around...so I'm wondering, if I reuse the spokes, will it work? The dob front rim erd is 534, and the rear is 532... Will 2 mm make any difference in spoke length?
-
If you want to run a smooth rim, dob rims are fine. Strength wise, they're pretty decent. Hard to flat spot, but dent easier than the other trials rims. As long as you run a decent pressure, you shouldn't have to worry about it denting. I only dented twice in 2 months, but they're small and easily fixed...both on big cases though, I think I got a pinch both times. I run one in the front with disc, and it's perfect. No problems at all. I run a Meta rim in the rear, which is slightly different from a try-all. I find the Meta rim grinds better, but flat spots easier... So in short, the dob rims are fine if you run rear disc or a smooth rim. Don't use if you want to grind...

That's odd...18:15 is quite the hard gear! I'm running 18:16 with 170's and sometimes I find it too hard... Try different length cranks?

I found some spare padding in a full face helmet I had lying around, fits the ankle perfectly, and it's not annoying or anything...I'll try it tomorrow and see how I like it.

Can't put dengura cylinders on maguras, can you? I've got a few sets here...not sure if I'd bother with that though...I certainly wouldn't switch over to an echo brake again, too much BS with those things...
-
I'm doing a lot of 180 side drops lately, and I'm finding the cylinders of my maguras are digging into my ankles quite badly...it's painful! does anyone know of a way that I could help minimize this? Are there ankle guards I can get that would help?

I tried James Barton's Hydroxx...bloody awesome bike to ride, very stiff, and he puts it through some serious hell. Seems like a very sturdy frame

I run dob front with a disc, meta (same as try-all, but harder alloy) rim on the rear with a grind...works good! Dob rims don't really grind well, I had a few on the rear...they hold up well...but I'd prefer something that grinds nicely.

Alright, so I just had a echo control frame, no booster on it (has one built into the frame), and I'm running a magura with plaz pads on a new grind. The brake worked excellently, very loud and tones of hold. Then I got a GU LE frame, and switched everything over, and added an Adamant brake booster, and now I'm finding it's completely silent, and doesn't hold as well! What's going on there? Anyone else have this problem?

Not too many people listen to that kind of music here in Canada...James just has a different taste in music. Probably just as uncommon as in the UK? Everyone has different tastes...and I personally like it a lot!

Grinding A Dob Rim....can't Get It Sharp!
Jason222 replied to Alex-Mitchinson's topic in Trials Chat
Yep! I'm running a DOB on the front, and a META rim on the rear(same as try-all but with harder alu). No problems at all with the front dob rim. I havent had any of my rims have the spokes pull through though... I've heard many times that they go discoloured when grinded (oxidized?) and I think that's a total myth. I've used two rims in the last 2 months, each grinded. No discoloration. -
I personally wouldn't choose any of those frames. I'm not a fan of low bb, or high bb! The sweet spot in somewhere in between. Go for something like +30 to +40 Oh, and nothing with stays shorter than 380...lol

Grinding A Dob Rim....can't Get It Sharp!
Jason222 replied to Alex-Mitchinson's topic in Trials Chat
I've had a few dob rims grinded up now. The first time I used a sanding disc, the grind looked terrible, but it worked great, and very loud. Then I changed the pads, and it didn't work. lol So I regrinded with a grinding disc, worked okay...but the grind doesn't last long(1.5 weeks?)... On another rim I had, I did both as well, but it only lasted 1/3 as long(maybe 1-3 days)? So I would assume the rims are all different as far as how soft the metal is. I'd imagine that they'd be fine for comp use, grind once, use for the comp...but not much more than that... Mine you they're relatively sturdy considering the weight. Harder to flat spot than an echo rim in my experience? -
I would imagine that Cnc'ing would make a frame stiffer? As apposed to just using tubes, like at the seat and chain stays for example...likewise, CNC'd bits are probably more resistant to dents and full on hits? If you think of it that way...then it would be better/stronger if done properly? I've never seen anything Cnc'd crack...usually things go at a weld or at a tube...

Very well done, you'd better youtube that thing asap!

That's what I did...works great Then you're one of the few that it actually worked for. A lot more people have had leak problems when bled with water than not... But canola oil works great. Bled two with canola oil, rebound is a tad slower, hardly noticable...but denguras have shit rebound anyway.

Quite bad spelling/grammer? Had a hard time understanding some of it. Good read though!

Not grinding well is an understatement...lol The grind is nice when it's fresh, lasts for about 4 full days of riding and then it's pretty dull. haha. I use lots of tar... They'd be great for anyone that runs smooth rim or disc, or possibly grinded for comp use?
