No worries, I'm not "nuts" enough for the marines anyway. First into conflicts..........

I'm sure once your settled in, maybe have a place of your own you can take bikes and other things to do with your life with you. I think you would be talking about the Royal Marines there, the level of commitment is totally different. Ahh awesome, where you based to? St Athans? I think I remember riding with you years back!!

I'm all red too. Used to be a greeny.

If everyone had that attitude, nothing would ever progress would it? Theres nothing better than a company taking a new direction in something, designing something in a way in which no one else has yet. Even if it does not work and ends up a failure, its been tried and people can progress again. EDIT: Oh yes, for all you weight weenies woried about a gram or two. The weight of this system with a tradtional 4 bolt system would be similar. The bolts on the 4 bolt mounts are shorter than a conventional booster would be, plus you don't have any of the bolt spacers you normally would have with a 4 bolt booster.

I could carry on in uni now, finish my degree and join as an officer, but I don't fancy it as you never get to live life as a rating, its very "us and them" from what I've heard and you never really get hands on (at least as a marine engineer). Golden hellos are tempting, but I don't think you would get the same experiance joining as an Officer as you would a rating. Hopefully with my qualifications and age, I could move up the ranks, maybe study at degree level in the navy and then move to officer. Off to the naval careers office tommorow

Would a set of MAD disk forks in BRIGHT red be any good to you? No v or 4 bolt mounts at all though. Please bear in mind, I would be slow posting it out as its good ol exam time!!

I've never liked the idea of the TNN set up, a two bolt booster mounted to the top mounts leaving the other two free. I know its going to add some stiffness, but surely this set up would be more efficient? I agree with the comment on it being too high, the booster needs to be as close to the pivot/bending moment as possible.

Going for Marine engineer, sort of follows my current apprentiship of Maintenance engineer. If your thinking of going in as a WE, be aware that after applying the current waiting times are 18-20 months!!! So if your planning of actually being in there in two years, apply now! (This is if you havn't already ) Half of me expected a witty comment about the Navy, the other half of me did not. For example "I was half expecting that frame to snap on this ride" meaning that you believed there to be a possibility of it happening.

I was half expecting something like this.....

Hi all I have been thinking of joining the Royal Navy lately, as my current job (maintenance apprentice, studying HNC in Uni) is hardly testing me. I am thinking of joining as a engineering technician (marine engineering). The way things are going at the moment, I will have around 18 months to wait in which time I should have compleated my HNC in manufacturing and mechanical engineering, and my NVQ LVL 3. Just wanting to know if anybody here is in the Royal Navy, knows anyone who has experiance with the Royal Navy, or anyone else who is thinking of signing up?

I'm guessing right hand for rear brake, left hand for front.

Sounds awesome to me. Location dosn't bohther me, I will travel for something like this especially if I'm going to be staying there for two nights!!! I'd much rather see a fixed price of £6 on tarty bikes, then £10 on the day. With an option on Tarty for donatiing more than £6 and a donation box at the event!

I'm sure that was in Narbeth? I remember Matt from round there saying about it years ago.

If you have a spare wheel about, which has the same spoke pattern (2 cross, 3cross, or even radial) and has the same amount of spokes, copy it! Of course you can get an idea from a wheel which has a slightly disimilar build compared to yours, but even that will help. Another idea, once you've laced it up upload some pictures on to here so people can check it for you.

I think it was here sometime between 2000 and 2002, such a long time ago I can't remember. I remember registering way before the server crash, back when I cared about my post count.......i think i may have been browsing the trials kings forums and found trials-forum through there. Think my member number was around 110. Wheres the time gone? Mad.

As above, a splitter may help. Although I can't see how you could be breaking so many hoses, I've never had one fail! Monty Splitter

I can see why it would either. Your only unscrewing the threads. Just make sure the vice you use has good jaws on it, for maximum grip.
-
I've never run tubeless before, always wanted to try it. I remember FatMike on here experimenting with it years ago...
-
Anyone tried the Maxis Larsen TT dual ply, 2.35"? I think they weigh around the 800g mark.
-
Another idea: Not sure if theres enough to grip, but maybe putting the side of the BB in a vice and using the frame as leverage? Just might not be enough meat on the BB to grip onto.
-
Grow up little boy. You must think your well ard for doing something like that, idiot.
-
I've never had problems with stiff links. The only people I've ever seen have problems are those who can't join a chain properlly.
-
As has been said, spray paint. Water won't effect it like it would hairspray and petrol. If you ever need to take your grips off, spray some lynx or other deoderant down there to loosen it up.

I must be a muppet then. I've always used it, knowing that it does not have the same benifits as chain lube. I usually use it to have on there to keep rust at bay and disperse water, I don't find that my chain does enough miles to warrent lube. Now if I was talking about my DH rig, it would be chain lube all the way.
