Pedals get abused from hitting them. All that will happen is they were get a white film on them if they are aluminium. A good polish after stripping will keep them shiny for at least a month. Mates engine covers on his bike I polished stayed mirror for about 2 months.

Hold the opposite piston in, pull brake so the other pops out. Clean off the piston, stick a small drop of chain lube on piston, spread it around then give the brake a pump to lube up the seal. Usually works.
